I still think that TOW2 is a fine RPG (albeit a very safe one) released at the worst time possible. Yotei/unexpectedly popular Trails 1st sucked away console SP players that were eager ot dedicate 30+ hours on a single game (it's not even a theory looking at sales), PC players had a blast with new MP games like BF6/Arc plus a lot of us had a ton of great RPGs in backlog already (few of my mates were catching up with KCD2 and E33 this fall). Dying Light: The Beast was a fine launch too, chipping away SP-hungry FPS gamers. There were never a place for TOW2 to steal the spotlight and MS doesn't even tried to change that.
TOW2 could've easily been released in the first half of Feburary 2026 in more finished state, during quiet release window where people are eager to spend time on new SP-oriented games and break the post-holiday boredom. Instead TOW2 just... Died? I can't even find a mate to talk about the game, because I'm the only idiot who bought it inside my (quite diverse) social bubble.

I dont really get into this kind of schpeel anymore on here but i have to say this is a new low for GAF. Its Black Friday time period where most games are on offer (and ironically this game isnt even on sale on Steam, the biggest store front), incliding the first or second best selling game this year in Battlefield 6, which also is having a FREE week.
Everyone trying to talk sense and saying this (including one of the biggest Sony guys on here) is being ignored and not quoted. Just people blndly jumping on the hate bandwagon.

I remember trying Outer Worlds, the first one, and getting bored with it, feeling like I had already played it before. Nothing about it felt original or "cool". It was just "meh" all around. Like a polished clone of an actual good game which had come out years prior and was still very fresh in my mind. Who's got time for that?

You must be really delusional if you thought majority of the userbase of Obsidian are not in Steam but paying 30 USD per month to play the game in Game Pass. Its fucking Obsidian.
Take a franchise with historically roots in Xbox.
According to the comments more people are playing Halo MCC on Steam vs Xbox.
So if Halo MCC is more popular on Steam, you are trying to tell me a fricking Obsidian game would have more userbase on a non-Steam platform?
You guys really live in your own bubble. First you tried to imply the Obsidian hate is something confined to this forum. And then when I compared there Steam CCU with past Obsidian games, you are trying to imply Steam is not the major platform for Obsidian.

Right I am in a bubble, it is so crazy to imply that someone might actually pay $30 for a sub play the game and not renew the dame thing, how unlikely that scenario is right? Because "it is Obsidian", you want to tell yourself that The Outer Worlds 2 sold below 20k be my guest, but give credit to the voices as the source buddy.

Now I said it has below 20k peak CCU, which is very low compared to previous Obsidian games like New Vegas and also way lower than other modern WRPGs like Kingdom Come. Modern Obsidian can't write good RPGs.

yeah now do the same with expedtion33 ccu, or starfield they were also on gamepass day1, that excuse doesnt hold any water.
game clearly flopped, it was basically a sequel no one asked for. if they are really doing an avowed2 next, good luck to obsidian. they'll need it.

If youve played outer world 2 i am willing to discuss why i think its a great game, but if you are another one of those " its shit, because" whatever opinion youve gauged from the internet then i aint got time for it, sorry.

and I think it's a good game with decent writing and characters

Ahh yes they are paying $30 to rent a Obsidian game. The same people who played New Vegas and PoE 1, and even those who enjoyed older Black Isle games like Planescape Torment, would play an Obsidian game on the 30 $ Game Pass Ultimate tier.
Expedition 33 was also on Game Pass but it had 145k peak CCU. Outer Worlds 1 and Avowed were on Game Pass, but Outer Worlds 2 performed worse than Avowed and Avowed performed worse than Outer Worlds.
Most importantly Dreadfire had half the peak CCU of PoE 1 and it bombed even though it was not in Game Pass. Why did Dreadfire bomb without being on Game Pass? People have been leaving Obsidian since Dreadfire.
