1800 euro for lcd vr.... Same cameras just in color. So you can play beatsaber with cameras view instead of beat saber background. no reason you couldn't do that with old cameras just in black and white.

The "metaverse" will be a mix of Augmented and Virtual reality. It was never all about VR and games.
Apple's headset is going to be AR/VR. That's why Facebook is moving towards AR and putting this out before Apple release theirs.

Facebook and Apple don't want you to play games. That's only a small part of the "metaverse". They want to replace smartphones with their headsets. Apple's plan is for headsets to replace iPhone within 10 years of releasing their headset which is out next year.
A company like Facebook would love to have a "smartphone" strapped to your face, track everything you see, and display adverts right in front of your eyes.

When Apple's headset comes out next year $1,500 will seem like a good deal. Apple could charge as much as $3,000 and we all know that people will buy it because it's Apple.
Have you seen the price of electronics these days? Folding phones are about $1,500. GPU's can cost about that much too (RTX 3090/4090). A headset can easily go for $1,500-2,000. It's not aimed at everyone but eventually prices will drop and budget/mid range models will come out.
Facebook and Apple want headsets to replace smartphones. They want as many as people as possible to have a headset. This is not for businesses/corporate.

It's clear Facebook is moving away from having the headset be gaming focused. You will still play games on it but they will want to now get people used to the thought of wearing a headset when working and doing normal day to day stuff.
Facebook are releasing and positioning this in anticipation of Apple's upcoming headset. You think that will be gaming focused? Apple will want you to wear their headset and use it like you use a smartphone. As such, Facebook will want you to do the same with this headset.

You can buy a giant ass battery and connect it to the headset via USB-C. Battery in pocket. Do it on the Quest 2, 8+ hours of batter life. Get some.
