Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater pre-release thread

TO ALL:
Here are some random facts and unanswered questions from past MGS games laid out to set the stage for MGS3 in no specific order (no MGS3 spoilers here).

-Solid Snake killed his father Snake (Big Boss) by his father's own will.

-Revolver Ocelot is still at large with Metal Gear Ray in his possesion.

-Liquid's arm is still at large, lol.

-According to the last trailer, MGS3 is the final MGS in the trilogy. Will it rap up all the unanswered questions or is it not the last game and maybe we can expect MGS4 on PS3?

-Outer Heaven was Big Boss's dream.

-Solid Snake's real first name is Dave.

-At the end of MGS2, Solid Snake was going to hunt down Ocelot.

-At the end of MGS2, Raiden was to return to his regular life and leave behind the mission.

-What is the mystery behind the Patriots?

-Who are the "La-li-lu-le-lo"?

-Snake (Big Boss) is regarded as the legendary soldier.

-Solid Snake is still infected with FoxDie.

If anyone wants to add to this list, be my guest! I can't wait to get the game. Hideo Kojima is one of the few really talented videogame directors out there, a true genius. My best videogame experience ever was playing through MGS2 (currently my favorite game of all time), so you can only imagine how excited I am to get a hold of Hideo's newest creation. Cheers!

We know some of the anwers to those questions:

While it is the last MGS title in the trilogy, it won't answer all unanswered questions but it has been confirmed that a 4th Metal Gear title will be in the works as well as Konami wanting to branch out the franchise a little more.

Who are the "La-li-lu-le-lo"?

By name exactly or their history? "La-li-lu-le-lo" was just the codename behind the Patriots. As for some of their history....
You'll find out in MGS3.

Other things worth adding to the list and I guess I'll spoiler mark them just incase:
-
Vamp is still alive. You can see him at the end of MGS2 standing in the streets as Snake and Raiden talk to each other after the defeat of Solidus. Naysayers need only use the Document of MGS2 to confirm it.

-
Olga's child? That's still left unresolved with I believe Snake vowing to find the child and free him/her from the Patriots.

Doubtful. The game does run in the full height buffer video mode, and much like MGS2 and ZOE2, you could almost certainly use Blaze adapter to force it into a progressive scan through VGA, (if you absolutely must play it in the progressive mode, that is)

:( Don't have access to any of that. And I'm low on cash.

* Sai sighs.

Oh well. What about 5.1? The entire game is in 5.1, right? Not just the cutscenes?

When can we expect to start seeing online reviews for this? So I can be hyped into adding it to an incredible holiday backlog and pay too much.

If MGS3 is really telling the story and history of Big Boss (and so many indications point to that) then I couldn't care less about most of the loose ends left over from MGS2.

I want to see what happens to "Snake" and experience what would drive a man who claims to be devoted and loyal to his country "to the end" to instead become one of the most dangerous enemies of world peace and stability.

According to GameRankings, EGM awarded a score of 9.5 to MGS3. Is the issue of EGM with this review in stores?

not a copy in stores today, most say wednesday. No review up on IGN or Gamespot. The thread not on page 1 even. Wtf?
There's been too many MGS3 threads lately with basically no new info. This might be, what, third 'pre-release' thread of some kind, if I'm counting correctly.

IGN has impressions of the final version

So does Gamespot. They talk about it being VERY VERY much like part 2 with tons of story, pointless extra abilities and a very low difficulty level. Kind of cooled my desire.

Did you honestly expect something other than Kojima's signature style?

I am soooo glad I avoided most of the spoilers for this game, and that it comes out on wednesday. Didn't the second game release on a wednesday too? Anyway, Metroid Prime 2 and this is really doing to dent my purse :(

I think he was still loyal, like me, to what America used to be and what it stood for. But he kinda lost it in wanting to control the world by wars and whatnot and then purifying it by fire like Ra's Al Ghul :P I believe it has something to do with the person who's grave he visits in the trailer. I hate that they put that in a trailer, I can almost guess who it is >:(

What the heck, I can't condense this into one post anymore?

Out where?

I think he's probably talked about First Bite. The CD with the Japanese and English versions of Snake Eater, Escape, Chivalry ect.

Anyone else planning on picking up the LE Strategy Guide?

I'm not a big fan of strategy guides, but I like some of the extras this one has. The art book and comic book sound boss. But $24.99...jeez. I could get a few games from 2003 that I missed for that much.

Damn that guide is too tempting!

His gun looks weird...

Because it's built from a low number of polygons... AKA a "low-poly" model, and doesn't use any fancy texture/shader effects to rectify that.

IMO the whole screenshot in the add isn't flattering (with the exception of Snake's face), but Joe Average probably has different tastes than your average GAFer.

Ok I'll shut up now...

I knew why (technicly) the gun looked weird, but I don't remember noticing low-polygonal guns looking that crappy and that zoomed in while playing Metal Gear Solid 2...

I never even looked at that screenshot much. That ad is all about relevant words hidden in the quotes on the right side :P

It'd been delayed according to EB and Gamestop. The ship date was today, now its tomorrow.

TO ALL:
I have a feeling that MGS3 isn't going to sell as well as MGS2. I know the game is going to be great and even better than MGS2, but the hype needed isn't there. As far as i know (correct me if I'm wrong), but there are hardly any pre-orders for the game. There was no pre-order campaign, no special edition, no free stuff, no TV commercials, where is the marketing for this game???

Is it because it was over shadowed by Halo 2's huge media coverage while MGS3 is left in it's shadow? I hope the game sells well, but I'm thinking worldwide units sold may only reach 2 million copies as oppose to MGS2's 5 million sold worldwide.

I know it will be good, I could care less if it sells 2 million or 5 million... i only care that it sells enough to warrent a MGS4 for PS3 and/or Xbox 2.

:)
