Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater pre-release thread

Is it because it was over shadowed by Halo 2's huge media coverage while MGS3 is left in it's shadow?
Didn't stop Sony from having Killzone commercial roll on every five minutes. It's kinda sad when a game like that has it's commercial (which looks pretty damn good btw), and MGS3 doesn't. Konami is playing this marketing game like complete amateurs, and I think Sony is not helping them this time around like they did for MGS2...

I know it will be good, I could care less if it sells 2 million or 5 million... i only care that it sells enough to warrent a MGS4 for PS3 and/or Xbox 2.
That's what I think too. I don't know how much is enough, though.

It's a very long review, and I've read only chunks of it so far. Here's couple of interesting quotes from the last page.

Words can not explain enough about how amazing Metal Gear Solid 3 is. The overall variety of gameplay and setting is absolutely stunning. Not to mention the perfect story that recreates the feeling many people felt playing Metal Gear Solid for first time. What made MGS such a memorable game was the atmosphere in the gameplay and the story’s ability to draw you in. I can without a doubt say MGS3 has a feel of stealth/survival though out the whole game. I often felt that I was actually in a jungle, all alone trying to survive from the guards and the nature. It brings back the spy feeling because of the very realistic recreation of the jungle and the very dense story told though the cutscenes that are quite frequent at first part of the game.

One of the greatest things about the whole game is, it feels like it was made just for the fans. There are lots and lots of subtle hints and lines that are placed just for the fans who played the previous MG games and loved them. There are quite a few events and major lines in the game that will make the hardcore fans go “HOLY S***”, while the casual gamers just absorb in the new pieces of information, because they don’t know the relevance of it. In the past some people complained about the amount of cutscenes and more importantly the length of codec calls present in MGS2. Hideo Kojima came to a compromise by reducing the required radio calls and increasing the gameplay. I personally felt the cutscenes were just as abundant as they were in MGS2. But the ratio of gameplay to cutscenes is different from MGS2, so it all works out for the best. The cutscenes this time are very action packed and very interesting. You will never see a cutscene in MGS3 where all it is about is 2 people standing there talking.

Another great thing about MGS3 is how well the story is presented to the players. The story is told in a very understanding manner that can be compared to MGS storytelling. Also there is a very big improvement on character development of people other than the main character. The relations and background of Ocelot, Boss and Volgin are very well portrayed in MGS3. Unlike MGS2, these 3 people get quite a lot of “screen-time” and development. Instead of making most of the game about twists, deception and only “good guys,” MGS3 has development of characters and story in a manner that is not confusing or boring. I can’t emphasis enough on how well such a complex story is explained in MGS3 without compromising any of the things we cherish (story complexity, details, depth, philosophical meaning, overall theme).

As for the gameplay in MGS3, it is very unique and different from all the past Metal Gear games. In reality, when it comes to gameplay differences between MGS and MGS2, it’s just evolving over already set standards. MGS3 on other had added totally new elements of gameplay and changed the overall setting of the game from MGS2. Gameplay wise, the leap from MGS2 to MGS3 is bigger than the leap from MGS to MGS2.

If this was an unbiased review from a general gamer, it deserves a 9.5 on a scale of 10. But I am not an unbiased reviewer, but a big fan of Metal Gear series that enjoyed MGS2 story, which most of the general media complains about. Hence it is unfair for me to give it a numeric score. I have given my reasons to why I think Metal Gear Solid 3 is the best Metal Gear game ever made. Use the whole review to make your judgment on the game or better yet buy the game and then decide if you agree with me or not.

So they basically gave it a 9.5/10.

Maybe they think mouth-to-mouth will be enough, which I don't :(

I think I just wet my pants... Man I can't believe I'm finally going to be playing MGS3 in a week or two (yeah it's gonna take me that long unfortunately, international shipping and all), it's been my most anticipated game (by a large margin) ever since I finished MGS2, knowing that it's finally here is almost surreal.

Adelgary, check your gmail!

The review has been removed due to them breaking the embargo set by Konami.
I probably still have it in the cache, but I'm sure it'll be up again soon, so I don't want to bother looking for it.

I freakin can't wait anymore.

Btw, my fandom level has reached it's peak the other day when I bought my official MGS3 camoflage underwear! (pictures coming sometimes soon)

Wha-what-WHAT?? Where can I get one??!

Oh and thanks a lot for the email, I just saw it, it's pretty late and I should be heading to bed soon, so I'll check the files in detail tomorrow, thanks again :)

Well, it's not official official, it's just my official MGS3 underware :P In all seriousness, it has nothing to do with Konami, but it looks very nice and has some kind of fancy looking camo pattern that is not really military or anything, more like designer stuff - BUT it looks a lot like one of the camos in MGS3. I bought it in a Mexx store.

HL2 now, MGS3 by the end of the week. Sorry, MP2, but your purchase has been bumped to a later date. :( And shit, I still need to buy technic beat at some point.

The review is now Down. The plot thickens regarding MGSorg's review...
IGN MGS Board:
What review?

FF7 (Ramesh) managed to get his hands on the game early, and wrote a review for MGS.org.

Unfortunately, we just joined the Gamespy Network, which is owned by IGN, who was contacted by Konami. They made us take down the review.

By any chance did anyone manage to copy it and then post it here..??

wow. gamerush is actually getting it in tomorrow. usually it takes them until friday. i wonder if i'll be able to pull myself away from halo 2 at all.

I'll check in at Gamestop and EBgames tomorrow morning and night. I have to work at KB Toys from 9am-1pm and then 10pm-2am, so I'll have two chances to check in...eugh. At least it's all in the same mall. Metal Gear Solid 3 would be such a bright spot in a very very bleak day.

Freaking ebgames and gamestop over here didn't have it. :( They said to come tomorrow... =/ At least I got to play with the DS...

Just got mine from gamestop in Chicago. They had a ton of them...

They also were unpacking DBZ:3 limited edition packs that have a cheesy plastic tennis ball sized dragonball imbedded into the packaging.

Meh, I called the GameStop store I preordered at here in Michigan and they told me tomorrow. So I called all the other stores in the area: Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy & Meijier (Who have been advertising having MGS3 instock since Sunday and supposebly are all sold out now). I'll give GameStop another call after 5pm to see if they got anything but I doubt it.

My copy is on it's way home as we speak. What to play, what to play? HL2, MP2, MGS3? So much to play, so little time. And Smallville comes on tonight.

Anyone know what are the 6 playable demos on the free disc from EBGames if you preorder MGS3? I can't quite make out the games from the image

its in the running for Game of the Year Award on Spike TV with an impressive list:
Halo 2
Halfelife 2
GTA:SA
Burnout 3
Metal Gear Solid 3

also in the running for action game of the year.

I had a feeling GS would give it a score closer to their original MGS 8.5 score. I been pretty impressed so far with whats actually being said about the game in the text reviews.
EBgames still hasn't shipped my game out though and I ordered 1 day shipping. :(

does this even have a TV spot haven't seen one yet but tons of GTA:SA and Halo2 ads.

yay my game shipped, come eat some snake!

Seems like Canada got boned this time.

EB (BC) doesn't get it until Friday. Future Shop doesn't even know.

Keep us posted, Marc.
