Same with just holding select during the game or visiting the options menu.

Beauty of the whole thing, choose how you want to proceed. You don't "HAVE" to use the shop or other guns. It's Gun Fetish EXXXTREME. I wish I had more Operator bullets....I COULD BUY SOME!

Yea, that's actually one of my favorite touches so far.

I don't think it's been said enough but this game is incredible. It's giving me the same vibe way back when I played the original Metal Gear Solid. I never got that same vibe with 2 and 3. I've been savoring every minute so far, only about 3 1/2 hours in.

Here's a real newbie's brief impressions:

Just started the game a couple of hours ago. I'm still very early on in Act 1. Just met Drebin a little while ago.

I'm really digging it so far. I think I understand why all the fuss was made in the press about the simplified controls. For the most part, I feel at ease moving around, shooting, etc. it hasn't been a hindrance at all. I'm really enjoying moving around these early environments.

The atmosphere in the war torn area is really great. The production values are through the roof. The little twitches and personality touches given to your little Metal Gear MK II in the cutscenes are really cute.

And I already got a small taste of the ridiculous wackiness the series is famous for when I pressed start after the loading screen and

was greeted by FMV of David Hayter on a talk show talking shit with a solid eye patch. wow

I need to pack it up early for the night but this weekend is going to be a MGS4 marathon, I think. can't wait.

Started playing at 10:30 am, and it is now midnight. Unfortunately, had to take breaks to actually feed myself.

Why did I stop?? I was about to defeat Raven, yet fell to my doom. Am I pissed? FUCCCCKKK NOOOO (I would if it was any other game). This battle has topped every other boss battle in MGS series in its intensity. I'm still shacking with a combat high. I'm simply spent for the day.

What can I say about the game...

- Best Metal Gear ever
- Best Kojima game ever
- Best game I have played this generation
- Best game I have played in the last 10 years.... fuck it... IN MY LIFE

I'm only in Act 3....

Some games have great gameplay, others great presentation, others great story, etc etc etc... I didn't know I will see all aspects perfected in one game.

P.S. I PITY THE FOOL NOT PLAYING THIS WITH 5.1 SURROUND SOUND. I PLAYED AT A VOLUME THAT MY WALLS SHOOK WITH EVERY EXPLOSION.

I think someone mentioned that many pages back. I remember reading about it anyway.

But yeah, some of you guys who are planning to be MGO GAF squad leaders, get to lvling up! Its not urgent that we get stuff set up launch day, but it would be nice if we could have some NeoGAF ______ Unit squads up by next week.

EDIT: I think 5 acts? Anyway its really nice they started the game with autoaim defaulted to off. So glad both Metal Gear and GTA started to give players an actual aiming system instead of just auto aim.

Are you customizing? I mean, there are bound to be better assault rifles and puttings things like Red Dot Sight or Grips on the guns REALLY helps. You don't notice quite as much in single player but I can really tell when I play MGO.

I got a kick ass sniper-assault rifle from it, so yeah, you might want to check it out.

Is it the automatic sniper rifle? I've been pretty much using that since I bought it.

Did anyone else take out a helicopter with an RPG? I saw one flying over me so I whipped it out and nailed it on the first shot. Then spent the next 1-2 minutes watching it spin out of control until it finally exploded. Crazy shit.

Well guys, I went on a stealth search trying to CQC an 80GB bundle but I failed. Just as I arrived at my local Walmart they had already sold the last one. Kept going for my search until I arrived at Best Buy, as my bad luck followed, they didnt received their shipment of the bundle. I walked out with a 40GB and the game on my hand, with a total of $492.00. Now, Ive been asking this question myself. Didnt someone around here posted some info about best buy matching walmarts offer with a $100 Gift card? I talked to the employees around and all I got was they dont have that offer and all they had was a $500 bundle including the 40GB with a bluray controller and HDMI cable. If anyone has a link to the bestbuy offer matching the walmart one It would be appreciated.

One thing I have noticed is that the upgrades do not show on the weapon you are holding in the cutscenes. Only the standard weapon is shown. Nitpicking I know but the game is so polished I thought it would have included this as it uses the in-game engine for cut scenes.
Loving the game though.

But in the cutscenes you can bring the OctoCamo pattern to normal state tho by shacking the controller. Which is even more awesome

The amount of details and nuances put into this game really make it stand out. When every other game out there that reviewers review get perfect 10s when they are your typical games from typical genres... this one truly deserves the praise. How the fuck can yo compare this to halo 3 or gears of war or call of duty? You fucking can't.

Shame on the journalists who constantly cry about the lack originality in todays' games yet give ridiculously high scores to the fucking culprits. Wasn't call of duty becoming a shit franchise b/c of the stale WW2 concept. A new setting changed peoples minds? Holy fuck. Then MGS4 should have been the same game with a new locale......?

well i am a total completionist whore so i went and tranq killed all the bosses in MGS3 to get all there awesome camo with special powers and thought there was probably something similar in MGS4. so he its its

you get an octo cam of the beauties face, which is pretty gorgeous and fap worthy, on snakes muscle bound suit.

so far i have killed 3 of the 4 beast with tranq and im not stopping now.

Did I hear Otacon say that Raiden is still alive? Madness if true. I really felt bad for while he was holding the ship back after he cut his own arm off. Craziness. Just like Gray Fox. I really like Raiden.

Anyway, I work tomorrow, but definitely going to finish it tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Loving every single bit of it. It's definitely everything that I've always wanted Metal Gear to be.
