My copy is on its way to Europe (ordered an US LE) and some friend of mine told me that all blue ray disc are region locked. So I wanted to ask if I will be able to watch the bonus blue ray.

In addition, he said I won't be able to play MGO. Is that true?

Yes! Well, at least, it worked for me : D

I'm guessing KojiPro are still on their well deserved vacations, but I hope when they get back they put up a Trophy Patch for this game.
I've been holding out on my Boss Extreme playthrough until I hear something about if they are going to patch it with trophy support or not.

I'm probably going to be the last person to have ever accomplished this but...

I'm never doing that shit again.

There's gotta be some others in here waiting on trophy news.

Finally I recieved my PS3, and booted up MGS4.
I played for around 2 hours, but barly progressed. I'm still at act 1, and
got the Mk II
.

I guess that's beacuse I want to do everything right, so when I'm detected by the enemy, I let them kill me and start all over again until I'm doing it the stealth way.

At first I was a bit confused. It was wierd starting the game like that. Not knowing what to do, where to go... Still, I'm having a bit of diffuclty to adjust to MGS4 in the sense that it's so open in comparasion to the other games in the series - A threat can come from anywhere around you, so you have to be on your toes every second.

for conclusion - only 2 hours in, but already in love with the game. It's too much fun sneaking around ^_^

Yep, I'm in the same seat. If I am to tackle the hardest difficulty, I damn well want a trophy for that without having to replay it again (if they ever release trophies).

It took me the entire first act and part of act 2 to really start to get used to everything. It really was a bit frustrating at first but man, when you get the hang of it, it sure is incredible.

Same here. Things just clicked somewhere in Act II. From there it was amazing. Can't wait to play Act I over to do it right.

It's up there. Only competition (for me at least) are MGS1 or 2, and SMB1 or 3. That's just too tough a call for me to make though.

fake edit: I'll stick SMW in there to show some 16bit love. :D

Still at act 1, but just had such a nice moment I'd like to share (Act 1 spoilers I suppose)

So, I'm sneaking around in the battlefield, taking out some PMC dudes while the militia struggles. Suddenly, this tank thing appears, and of course, my nice RPG. it was really satisfying blowing it up. Then, I noticed some militia soldiers getting them selfs killed by a sniper. I enter a building, spot the sniper, and CQC the shit out of him. Then I see another one, take him out, takes his place, and start sniping some militia.

But the funnest moment was when the chopper arrived. First, I decided to ignore the beast, but 2 minutes later, I recreated Black Hawk Down XD

I think I'm enjoying MGS4 that much beacuse:
- I'm a MGS fanboy.
- It's my first PS3 game.
- It's AWESOME!

the thing that makes me feel really happy, is that the story didn't start to roll, and it must be great :)

Gets to pilot the crappy patrol labors
Hmm, I'm replaying the game now and I've got a few questions.

What's the use of the various new "emotional" ammo you get?

I'm playing on the "hard" difficulty now. Should I wait trying to get those frog statues or whatever it is until another play through on like easy? I mean, knocking those Frog soldiers out can take a while with the V-ring-ammo if you don't hit them in the head.

Who was the clown that thought respawning enemies was a good idea? I'm on the first act just before you enter the hotel type building and I decide to take out a few guys with the Mk II so I find this little hidding place to keep snake safe. Or so I thought. Turns out the place I'm hidding him is a respawn point for the PMCs so when I stun a couple two more respawn in the exact spot that snake is hidding. Grrrrrr..............

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.
^ Both vids were pretty funny, especially that last skit with Paramedic in the collab.:lol

While I still think this game isn't as good as MGS3 I must say it's really growing on me now. I started Act 5 but decided to restart the game and I'm currently messing around at the start of Act 2 and having much more fun.

Finished act II. Last hour of it was so full of win!

The boss fight was quite fun, the haunting thing was great, and then came that awesome-wowsome chase scene! this all act was like MGS3 on steroids.
One thing I disliked was the Raiden-Vamp fight. I know MGS is fictional and over-the-top, but that was way too much for my taste - like TTS too much.

There's something I don't understand in the story though -
What is Liquid trying to achieve with these tests that he preforms at the and of the two acts? Is he trying to free the soldiers from the nanomachines - from the system? If so, why? Once they're no longer in the system, how can they use their guns?

One more thing that I didn't get that's related to this - What's up with the shots Naomi and Snake takes?

Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to ask, am I the only one who is pissed off beacuse of the respawning enemies? It makes sneaking really hard - In a bad way. I kill some dudes, move along, and then suddenly they pop out of nowhere, and they never end until... I don't when, they just stop at a certain point.

If you had of read my post which is about 3 above yours you would see that you're not the only one.

I really should play this game again. Here it is almost September and I haven't touched the game again since June when I finished it :( It's one of those things, like the latest movie in theaters you have to experience as soon as possible. Plus I wanted to get through the game in order to avoid someone spoiling the game for me. But now I feel there was so much to absorb that not everything really sunk in. I can play it at a nice pace now and really discover all the little details I might have missed the first time around...

Looks like that Integral podcast pipeline seems to have been utterly pointless!

I really want Konami to patch in Trophies before I do another run through. It seemed so weird that the Trophies firmware update and MGS4 release were almost day and date but not linked in any way.

Reflecting on the game now, I wanted 1 more Act that followed the gameplay of Acts I & II. Act 3 really is where the game dips in quality in my opinion before picking up again in 4. Some controllable battlefield action and sneaking on the aquaducts and docks would have improved the chapter greatly.

I would love a downloadable act that delt with the ocelot claw pmcs. I always wonder what happened to them since the were mentioned in the first briefing scene and mgs universe tv commercials. It almost seemed as though they couldnt think of a way to implement them and decided to cut right to shadow moses.

That's a bit of a shame in a way because it means that once you go inside from that part you don't need to sneak because they now see you as a friendly.

Just beat the boss at act 3. Fight was really fun IMO, quite intense.
The scene just before that is so incredibly amazing - it was soooo cinematic and cool.

Still, I don't understand
why snake needs to take that shot, what extacly happend to him? and why does EVA keeps Big Boss alive, what's her goal?

Am I supposed to find out all of this later or on, or I'm just having trouble keeping up with the story?

Relax, it's only one small section of the game.

I never wanted to check this thread until I completed the game. I only started 3 weeks ago and played it on and off.

Now I got 23000 posts to skim through. :p

Back from my 2 week holiday where I got to listen to the MGS4 soundtrack and the Metal Gear 20th anniversary collection thoroughly.

I can't believe how much I am missing out by not playing in 5.1. The best is yet to come is absolutely epic.

you have to load up the save file you made when you beat the game.

Just finished the game and thought I'd add mt thoughts to the thousands of others in this thread.

I played this game after playing through all the previous games, even Portable Ops, and I have to say, Kojima finally scratched the itch that's been bugging me about this series in all four previous installments: they've never acknowledged the civilian world until now. Seriously, every previous game had been larded with serious-sounding talk about the meaning of being a soldier and fighting and blah blah blah, but never have they admitted that soldiers really fight because they want to go home, hug their mothers, and sit around a barbecue having a beer.

So, yeah, the eggs cooking, the
wedding scene
, the ending... I was really happy to finally see the series admit the existence of a world outside guns and camouflage painted trucks.

So, I liked it, but hate++ on the respawning soldiers and Kojima's misogyny (BB unit porn angles, female character unbuttoning the top four buttons, and Mei Ling).

Yeah but that safe file is just the ending cutscene? I don't want to watch the credits again and all that shit..

Load the file and it will prompt you to start a new game.

Yeah. I didn't need to see
Snake's Mom's clev
. WTF?

Just finished the game yesterday, what a FUCKING AWESOME experience. Acts 4 and 5 were made of win, and the
post-credits ending
was :O.

I just have a few story questions, that I don't think were answered or at least clarified in the game:

1)
Why did Ocelot choose to mentally reprogram himself into thinking he was Liquid? I understand how he did, and that Liquid was never really possessing Ocelot in the first place, but I don't understand the purpose of Ocelot doing it in the first place.

2)
Big Boss said that EVA had rescued him from the Patriots and repaired his body using parts from Liquid and Solidus. But I thought BB wasn't freed until after the Patriots AI was wiped out? Which was long after EVA had already died. So am I missing something here? Timeline seems a bit screwy.

There might be more, but that's all I can think of right now. Anyway...GAME OF THE YEAR!! Can't wait for Metal Gear Raiden. :D

How was everyones reaction when
you fought liquid on top of the boar @ the end. You know how it started with the theme music from MGS to MGs2 to MGS3..I shit my pants @ how good that part was

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

I was

. There was one more after that :)
