has these been posted yet?

15 movies that influence mgs series:
* The Guns of Navarone
* The Great Escape
* Goldfinger
* 2001: A Space Odyssey
* Planet of the Apes
* The Deer Hunter
* Dawn of the Dead
* Full Metal Jacket
* Die Hard
* Heat
* Predator
* Black Hawk Down
* Children of Men
* The Bourne Identity
* Casino Royale

LOL at that bullshit list from Kojima. The real "inspiration" for MGS comes from Rambo and Escape from New York.

So what's wrong with MGS: PO and the Database? I played PO like six times, and the database was very helpful in fleshing the story out. Can someone bring me up to speed?

Kojima has listed Escape From New York countless times. I just assume he decided not to this time since it's so obvious these days. He also says in the article that this list comes from that Snake's Bandana came from The Dear Hunter not Rambo.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I'm gonna replay it now again... here it goes...

Ok. So I hear all this criticism on the story, other stuff.

So before you read this, you have to know, I am easily pleased.

ACT 4:
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIC EPIIIIIIIIIIC. The whole thing was epic. I'm kind of glad Naomi died, I started disliking her at the end of MGS1 already >:| Vamp scene was ok but unnessecary, it kind of felt like they had to kill him off, so they just put that fight in there. The dual screen thing was very nice, and I like how you have the railgun Fortune has in MGS2 :D Atleast, I think it is. AND THEN I BECAME METAL FUCKING GEAR REX AND FOUGHT METAL FUCKING GEAR RAY WOOHOO AND THEN OUTER HAVEN CAME UP AND HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT. The shit was so epic, I closed my PS3 at the moment Raiden stopped Haven from hitting Snake. So tomorrow I'm going to see what happens next. I COULDN'T STAND THE EPIC OVERLOAD.

:) I felt the same. Maybe I am easily pleased as well. I think though I'm easily pleased with videogames. I give them an easier time when it comes to the writing when compared to films. I don't expect that type of quality. Some games do get close (GTAIV for example) but they have their own major faults in both the story and gameplay. MGS is the only series that gets everything "good enough". Combine it all together and it's an amazing package.

Nice to read posts like this. Kind of sick of the negative Nancys in here.

The Meryl and Akiba gun duet scene after the Mantis fight.
Think I've seen another movie do something similar, too.
it reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

Just think about what whatsherface says at the end of Portable Ops. You can interpret it in several ways, but ultimately its either a red herring, or crap in your face.

As for the database, it seems that whoever was responsible for the MGS4-related parts of it decided it'd be a good idea to not give a clear answer regarding several key details that aren't fully explained in the game, like what the fuck is up with Liquid Ocelot.

On one page, it says what we knew from MGS2. On the next page, it says what we're told in MGS4, yet they don't go out of their way to say that whatever was fact in MGS2 was 100% false.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm disappointed that my favorite movie isn't on that list. : ( If you can't tell by my avatar
it's El Topo

I thought maybe Snake's spiritual journey in Snake Eater could have been inspired by it.

Not seeing 'The Matrix' on that list has me saying "BULLSHIT!".

Regardless of what any of you may think about the movie, there is no denying it's inspiration regarding special effects, story telling, cinematography, philosophical references etc in other mediums. I think Kojima was put on the spot and started naming whatever he could think of off the top of his head lol.

The Matrix is a fantastic movie (ruined by sequels). MGS2 was clearly inspired by it especially with the slow-mo bullet effects and such and Kojima, himself, said if a MGS movie was made, he'd want it done by the Wachowski's (sp?).

This was stated on the eve of MGS2's release and before Reloaded and Revolutions were out. Iunno about you but 8 years (and two iffy sequels) can change a person.

It was a DVD promotion, there could have been a limitation on what to choose from, like the ones which weren't selling too well.

The Matrix itself was inspired by Japanese film and anime. So while Kojima probably likes The Matrix it probably didn't inspire him as much as is own country did. Maybe it was #16!

One thing I totally forgot about. In the Integral Podcast Episode 2, they mentioned to have a save for Advent Palace on a specific date. Did anyone find out what was the purpose of that?

It's because each podcast is about a certain area in the game, and podcast 2's was Advent Palace.

wow

how... what?

coolio, you DO realize that that's a girl, right?

Jesus... wow.

I mean, of all the tattoos she could have gotten? That? That giant mass of blackness? Of Old Snake? No sense of art at all. Its like a giant sticker placed on a random part of her body. What the fuck.

I feel bad for her.

The image normally is actually awesome but as a tattoo... Actually it does look a bit nice but the placement is just horrible, and a horrible tattoo to express your MGS love with. :')

kaizoku

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
finally reached act 5 and I can pretty much confirm this is one of my favourite games ever and from a critique perspective its arguably the best campaign mode ever made in an action game. no real weak points in the gameplay, you can approach most battles and situations in vastly different ways and there are more good reasons to replay than any other campaign mode in my memory.

awesome climax to an awesome series, fanservice, injokes and new additions in glorious tandem.

I need to find a girl like Mei Ling, she's bloody perfect :D
