For me, what Kojima did in Shadow Moses is pretty cool. It added to the feeling of isolation and that the base is old and abandoned.

I just wish they made it longer by having to go through the communications tower. Also, add a few PMCs in some areas to act as guards to REX.

Third act could've been a lot better too if the sewer area was not cut.

The act that gets the most hate for me is the last one for obvious reasons.

Anyone got any leads on where you can buy that poster? (or a high res pic to get it "custom made" as was referred?)
I'm sorry, you said you're getting rid of it for a...Killzone 2 poster? I mean, KZ2 is great and all, but this is MGS...
Well opinions are opinions.

It's like a wasted opportunity. I loved Shadow Moses, the level, but I completely hated everything that I did in it. A PMC, with winter gear, patrolling the area would have been ridiculously awesome.

The battle at the very end of the Shadow Moses level was simply amazing though. One of the highlights of the game for me, anyway. I felt so bad ass. :D

Poster please. Hell, my name is Snake! My screen name is SolidSnakeXs. I was the first GAFer to get Big Boss rank!

There's supposed to be another gameplay segment after beating Raging Raven. You will see Big Mama and Snake descend through a manhole into the sewers.
Ah cool, how did you know about that?

If a Substance does ever come out they could put these parts in. I'd buy it even if it was only 5 minutes of new material since you could easily get over an hour of playtime in there :p

Don't you think it's a bit presumptuous to think including it would have made the third act better without knowing anything about it? All I know is that it got cut (and when things get cut there's usually a reason), plus the EVA escort section in Snake Eater was atrocious, easily the worst section of the game, so I don't know why revisiting that mechanic would have made the act three any better.

Teetris got the poster. sorry guys. :p

I actually have 2, the second one I don't need. Famitsu PS3 in Japan gave them away double sided.

It got cut for technical reasons, not design reasons. You know in your heart that if they included the sewer, the pacing for that act would have faired a whole lot better than it did.

Ah, the ones with the flipside having the Shinkawa art of Snake, Raiden and Meryl. Yeah those are awesome.

What I wanna know is where the fuck you got that high-res poster or a high-res pic of that poster cause I fucking need it!!!

It used to be easy to get ahold of them. I got basically same one, but non-folded and non-torn hanging right besides me. (Don't mind the crappy wallpaper or my shitty camera.)

Just walked into a GAME-shop and asked if I could have one of them. Got it for free.

Damn, now if people want to pay stuff for it, maybe one should sell it. :lol

Do you know about anything else that was originally supposed to be in the game but didn't make it for whatever reason?

I think I read that the ending was originally going to have [ending spoilers, obviously :p]
Snake and Otacon being hung for was crimes as opposed to the sunset ending that was in the final product.

Any truth to that?

Shot, dude. Not hung, this isn't 1940 XD Kojima himself said he wanted to have a more realistic ending where they would confess to their crimes and would face the firing squad but his staff said "No, you are not ending it that way you bad bad man".

When jumping into topics, try to go back 1 or 2 pages and read them because a lot of the time you'll find your answers (such as this specific ending stuff) there rather than the same stuff having to be repeated over and over.

To be fully honest, I would acctually give it/sell it/trade it away if I could find a kickass Shinkawa-art MGS4 poster. Kind of in style with the one from MGS3 (with Big Boss against the red/brown/white trees and stuff) since I am for pro-"proper art" then film-poster style.

Oh, well I have no idea where I got the hanging part from then. :|

And thanks for the advice - duly noted!

This reminds me of how much better this part would have been if Snake was fighting alone and it was just PMC soldiers, not FROGS.

When I replayed MGS4 for the first time this was the best section in the game for me. I had "Metal Gear 2 - Level 3 Warning" pumping on the ingame iPod and CQCing everything in sight; no rifles, smgs etc etc just me, a knife/pistol and the FROGs. Good times

I know this has been beaten to death with Thor's hammer, but everytime I see this thread bumped, the only word that crosses my mind is "trophies." It's just a game that has potential to have some of the coolest trophies ever, there's so many possibilities and it would make the game so much more fun, especially if they came up with some truly diabolical and zany stuff. They did it for Uncharted and because of that I've beaten that game probably more than ten times now. I can't think of a better game that is in more need of trophy support than MGS4.

Just started playing Twin Snakes for the first time.
After
defeating Ocelot I searched for like an hour for the codec to contact Meryl...then I looked at the back of the Box lying here in front of me... now I hate this game SOOO much :D

Looking forward to MGS4, I hope I can start it next week after finishing 1, 2 and 3 ;)

It sounds like we're whining, but it really is true. MGS 4 has such amazing potential for awesome Trophies, it's a shame they haven't decided to update the game.

Nope, never played a MGS before. I started with Twin Snakes because I heard from some guys that played both (Original and Remake), that the remake stays very true to the original with updated graphics and gameplay.
I am currently at the battle versus the tank and my god I suck at this game.... :|

sort've moot since it hasnt happend (and might not ever) but isnt it likely they'd just default on the emblems for game's completion? i could see MGO getting some as well, but just like back when i thought Heavenly Sword would get them (...), i assumed, like Uncharted, itd just be the already in-game ones applied.

As already mentioned, it sounds like those guys had their brain erased after playing the original.

It's not a remake, it's an aberration.

wait, Twin Snakes was pretty much 1 minus Mei Ling's stereotypical voice, plus new graphics, john woo cutscenes, and uh, gamebreaking first person option, right? thats how i remember it. puts a dent in it, but does that make it a piece of shit, or am i forgetting something?

Just finished MGS4 the other weekend and loved it to death. I am by no means a Metal Gear fanatic (I didn't even play 2 or 3) but I picked up the essential collection after playing 4 and now am patiently waiting on Sony to get the Emotion Engine Emulator working. Either way, MGS4 is fantastic even though I didn't really have a complete grasp on the story. Great game, must play for PS3 owners.

You really should be playing MGS3: Subsistence, even if you have been spoiled to some extent by playing MGS4 first.

What is so different about the remake? I play MGS mostly because of the Story anyways, I don't really like stealth games so much. Are some parts of the story changed?

Ridiculous cutscenes, MGS2 gameplay maladjusted to MGS1 level design and the sounscape is very inferior too. Furthermore, the graphics are terrible and characters have lost their charism with this.

This x1,000,000

I can still remember all the dialog and sound queues from MGS due to the amazing voice work and flawless use of audio and music.

Buy a PS2 get the orginal MGS and thanks us later.

The Twin Snakes is not meant to replace playing the original game. There are some game breaking features used from MGS 2 as Hikash mentioned.

I did enjoy the game though. I'm a big fan of Kitamura and the graphics looked decent enough.

All I know about the cut part of Act 3 is because one of the maps of MGO is in a sewer. And that sewer has been shown in the TGS 2007 trailer. And it's surprising that it's not even one of the maps included in the MGO starter pack.

It got cut for technical reasons, not design reasons. You know in your heart that if they included the sewer, the pacing for that act would have faired a whole lot better than it did.

Now I want to know more about that. Why technical reasons?

This is what I remember. Though I did hate the replacement voice for Mei Ling...
Maybe part of the reason I didn't mind so much is I probably skipped the cut scenes and most codec communications and didn't use FPS aiming at all.

There was a lot of stuff that I didn't understand, but I didn't pursue it if I couldn't grasp what was going on in MGS4. I have played through MGS1 about 6 times and once they allow me to play MGS2/3 on my PS3, I will dive into them and try my best to understand what was going on. By then, I should have most of that "WTF?" information out of my head by then, replay MGS4 and be totally fine.

I really can't stand what they did to the soundtrack and vocals. The GameCube controls are also a hurdle to get around. Then there's the sensitive frame rate. (The game always seems to chug when I fire in first-person, although others don't seem to notice as much.)

Critics usually tend to focus on the new over-the-top cut scenes, but to me they were probably the least of Twin Snakes problems.

Naomi lost her accent as well. I only got to finish Twin Snakes once but I still prefer the original. The gameplay of MGS2 doesn't fit the level design of MGS IMHO. It made the game easier even with MGS2's AI. The only things I like about Twin Snakes are the OST and the bad ass elevator cutscene.

That sounds right -- Considering my PS2 started throwing DREs for CD based games, killing the BC for the unit, I got rid of a lot of the PSX stuff I'd kept.. I managed to score a cheap copy of TTS as a replacement... I only played once, and by that time, I'd played through the PSX copy about 7-8 times, so I didn't really need any of the story or cutscenes or just started skipping stuff after I heard Mei Ling speak. I did notice the more "matrix-esque" cutscenes at one point, but thought I must've been tripping balls at the time... so I started skipping them too. :)

Well, that's the problem, now isn't it. Mei Ling was freaking born in America. Not only that, but she's supposed to be like this 18 year old MIT prodegy, yet here she is in MGS1, with a thick chinese accent, sounding like she's a light smoker and at least 30. TTS was a huge improvement in the voice acting department, outside of a few niggling localization flaws, like the Otacon "character flaw" codec call.

And what do you mean "replacement voice?" They didn't recast anyone except for the new casting for the voice of Gray Fox, where before the guy that did Darpa Chief did Fox as well. Kim Mai Guest reprises her role every time.

To me, the accent added to the character so I love it that way and wish that they kept it in MGS4. I also love the translation done by Jeremy Blaustein for MGS.

as much as I loved Sniper Wolf's theme, the ambient music that plays during her monologue feels much more appropriate with the visuals that are displayed as the camera pans across the sky, with the aurora borealis and whatnot.

Yes, the accents for all of the characters who had one, including Nastasha Romanenko, added some level of dimension to the characters, but in retrospect, the only accent I miss is Nastasha's. She's the only character who made sense to retain an accent. Everyone else didn't have a real reason to have one, based on their background. Mei Ling's TTS voice is far superior.

Too bad Scott Dolph was in charge for MGS 2. It shows too.

I don't really care about their background. And for me, it's something Kojima could've gone away with. He didn't really have to explain everything to connect every single detail the games presented. And I don't miss Natasha. I even often forget about her since she's more of an optional character in MGS. You can actually play through the whole game without even talking to her in the codec.

use chaff grenades, and throw grenades at the cockpit, lawl.
You're really better off playing the PS1 version, as TTS is really more of a complimentary experience than it is a remake in the truer sense. If you have a PS3, you should just buy it from PSN.
