I did the tank destroying mission with the mortars (killed the target and the lead tank). Then I chased the last tank down on D. Horse until I found the IFV with the autocannon, which I used to shoot it with.

I like just how open-ended the missions are.

Yea. I destroyed 2 with C4 and 2 with Rocket launcher while riding a horse.

That reminds me, just before starting mission 9, as soon as I landed on Afghanistan LZ near mission 9. As soon as I landed there was a tank and abour 6-7 soldiers (all had blue triangle signs on their heads like the prisoners. They started attacking me as soon as I landed. I managed to get away, tranq'd 6 soldiers who were on foot and destroyed the tank with the launcher. Then fulltoned the tranqd soldiers.

Kaz said something but it I could not hear it, as I was still in WTF phase and was pretty intimidated because of the tank fight.

Did anyone experience that or was it just a bug?

I was roaming the countryside heading for my 1st side op after the 2nd mission. That's when I heard this whimper, and Ocelot told me to stop playing with injured wildlife lol. Turned out it was DDog. That's my anecdote.

I do have a question when not in a mission, how can I set an LZ to return to MB?

Does PP retain the cinematic experience of the other games despite the move to open world gameplay? The prologue was promising in that regard.

Honestly, no. Don't expect many cutscenes, don't expect them to be long and don't expect a very controlled experience like the prologue.

From the menu tab over to the third option, on the right, it should be under that list. It can also just be done from the map but I'm often forgetting how. Dpad perhaps.

It seems that DD can be encountered in a variety of circumstances. I didnt encounter DD until much later than you, and he was not injured. Somewhere around mission 10 I think. All Ocelot said was that he looked like a tough little guy.

I believe Return to Motherbase is just an option in the idroid.

Is Mission 8 the
blow up the vehicles mission?
I literally
ordered a bombardment on the stationary vehicle to the left of the landing zone, smoked a cigar and left. Mission complete

Mission 11:

Pinned down by Quiet and a sandstorm rolls in, so I rush in and try to flank her (yeah whatever),
and I play Rebel Yell right before I get the final shots. So while this cutscene is all playing out Billy Idol keeps fading in and the whole thing is just hilariously perfect. This game is so crazy.

Okay first of all gotta say that the fact that soldiers thank you for CQCing them at mother base is really funny. Especially funny that's how you learn their names haha. Just finished mission...18, I think.

I know this was probably in like every trailer ever, but I kinda avoided those so the scene where Big Boss appeared to gun down the kids seriously got me for a second. Also, that mission REALLY got me nervous when I was getting them back to the helicopter...and also the helicopter blew up out of nowhere which was kinda annoying.

So on my second attempt I lamed the fuck out of that mission by using a silenced tranq sniper rifle from afar and then getting refills for my suppressor and more ammo. S ranked it like that haha.

You're brave. I put my tail inbetween my legs and crawled my way out of the area trying to stay hidden.

Dang must've missed it lol, thanks guys!

Finished the Prologue. Boy that escalated quickly.

If it wasn't for the tapes I just listened to, I'd think Snake was a silent protagonist. You're slackin', Sutherland.

By the way, I think the placement of music tapes is randomized(I imagine this has been discussed to death here, but if not...) because people were mentioning they found Take On Me the early missions in this thread, but I found it in Africa so quite a bit away from the first few missions.

So... how do you get the Konami server daily rewards? I saw it under the Mother Base menu earlier today for the tutorial and got the Sept. 1st rewards, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get that to pop up again to get the Sept. 2nd one. What is the unlock condition for that?

I found DD on mission 2 literally as soon as the chopper dropped me off he just came running up to me before I jumped out. Pretty let down that it wasn't a more memorable moment tbh, it felt very scripted in a weird way.

Played about 4 hrs tonight (PS4).
The intro was much less interesting than I was lead to believe but it was still good.

Controls are amazing (except the jump)
Graphics are OMG unpossible @ 60fps / 1080p
Gameplay also is incredible.

But the camera direction during cutscenes gets old faster than Snake ever did... Especially the Michael Bay-esque always shaky and rotating cam, it is absolutely terrible IMO. I hate that. And stop the zoom ins super closeups.

Storywise...
Boss
is mostly mute,
wtf?
I hope the story gets more interesting too, so far it's easily the worst first 4 hrs of a MGS game in terms of story IMO.
Dialogues are cheesy and meh so far.

Does anyone know the exact location for the Joy Division Love will tear us apart cassette? I know its in afhanistan central base camp, but after taking over the camp and searching every where, I can not find it!

Have to admit that's a bit disappointing to hear.
I thought so too, however, if you don't mind slight mission spoilers...

Some of the more story heavy missions almost have you play through what would be a cinematic in an old Metal Gear game. There is one mission where you are being chased by something and Kaz is on the codec telling you that you have to escape. It felt very cinematic even though the entire thing was gameplay.

If there's anything to be disappointed by it's by Snake's relative silence. He talked so much in the older games that he doesn't even seem like the same person now, voice aside.

Already completed 12 main missions and a couple of side ops as well, with around 18hrs in. Been having a blast with it, amazing game indeed.

Has been really difficult for me to play stealthy. I always end messing up lol, gotta keep practicing. My only S rank mission so far has been
mission 11, fighting Quiet
. After my two free days, back to work today. So I won't be able to play till the afternoon. It will be a long day...

I just want to say I've been having ridiculous amounts of fun with this game. I played it non stop all day yesterday and didn't at one time want to take a break or get sick of it. And I'm not a big metal gear fan either.

I found DD on the way to my first side OP after the second mission. I actually thought it was a scripted encounter.

On a side note, maybe it's because I've been playing a lot of Ground Zeroes in the past week or so before launch, but the spike in difficulty in maintaining a non-lethal, stealthy approach I've seen mentioned in some outlets like Giant Bomb...not seeing it. Two missions, two full stealth, no kill completions. Maybe it gets harder later on, but so far the same old tactic of moving slowly and carefully, crawling as needed...all still works like it always has.

Though I do go lethal in the open world; it's not worth it to waste my tranq darts on random Ruskies en route to my actual missions.

On mission 20 now. As time goes on, Kiefer tends to be talking a lot more.

I'm waiting for something to advance the story a little bit more though. Seems like a lot of slow build but the overall plot has yet to reach a turning point.

BTW how many missions are in the game?

Stuck on Episode 16. -_-

Any tips from those who completed it?
Airstrike after drawing them away from the truck. Stay hidden.

Hit some very heavy fatigue after 40 hours and reaching the second location. The open world just isn't very good. It looks nice, but far too many missions recycle the same locations over and over like a theme park ride.

If you explore and head out to a new area you end up punishing yourself for when the main missions use that location. Depending on if you destroyed any installations there like the power (causing enemies to be in caution state if you go back at night) or simply by ruining the discovery during the story mission.

Like someone said earlier the main missions mostly feel like GZ's side missions while side missions here are almost randomly generated in quality.

The core gameplay is great but damn if the mission structure and constant reuse of the same locations don't try their hardest to suck the joy out of it. Perfect scores are absolutely insane for what's going on here. Very obvious faults.

Just completed the mission
Where do bees sleep?
or whatever it's called. Awesome cutscene at the end but holy hell that was a tough infiltration.

I did a download of my Ground Zeroes game data, and only saw some cosmetic items. Where are all my GZ soldiers?

Is it because I am only past Mission 2?

Do they show up later?

What I did was
wait until the convoy stops at a post and the drivers get out to talk. Stealth up to the truck and when the Skulls jump out, quickly get in one of the ACPs (they shouldn't be occupied). Then just blast the Skulls till they're good and dead.

I got S Rank with that method.

Done with the first 11 episodes, seems I need to do more side ops to unlock more.

Miller is teasing
Emmerich
, things are getting interesting.

Finally got DD as a buddy too.

Cool. I'll try that. I think this is the only mission so far that's got me frustrated.

Yeah the GZ stuff is kind of given to you little by little, unfortunately.

I got Kojima after mission 3.

Traitor's Caravan. The one where the Skulls attack you while you're trying to extract the truck.

Ooooh yeah, that one. What I did was first make sure I was ahead of where they would be(interrogated soldiers to be sure) then parked a car in the middle of the road. In the absence of a car, I'm pretty sure the horse would also work haha.

Then, from the top of a hill, I sniped the driver. It took two shots to do that because the first shot only broke the window, so you probably have time to switch out to non-lethal ammo if you are going for a complete no-kill run. Once the driver is dead/unconscious the car that's packing the Skulls just won't move at all, and the tanks don't move either until you aggro them.

At that point I lamed the fuck out of the game by riding my horse back to the nearest city just to get a checkpoint in case I messed things up, because I'm a huge, shameless cheeser and had died too many times there. After that I doubled back, got a supply of a rocket launcher and shot both tanks. Then, before approaching the truck, I left my horse by the middle of the road as my escape route.

Then once I approached the car and triggered the Skulls, I sneaked behind them to fulton the tank and ran like a coward to my getaway horse I had prepared earlier. After that I just ran like a lunatic back to the helicopter.

Cool. I'll try that. I think this is the only mission so far that's got me frustrated.
It frustrated me a bit at first too because I thought the
convoy
would be coming the other way for some reason, so I ran about 2500 meters just trying to find the damn thing before my intel team tipped me off to it. I also tried taking them on with guns, and that didn't end well for me, so I had to run another 1000 meters from my last checkpoint.

Oh, and be sure that
you lure the Skulls away from the truck so you don't blow it up.

Made some decent progress. Cleared another main mission (4 or 5 I think at this point) and a handful of side missions. Found DD, got a good bit of upgrades, and am now working on getting my next MD platform. I think I might focus more on actual story missions tomorrow as the side ops are getting someone repetitive and I'm itching to move the story forward.

Edit: Also got my GZ stuff finally, getting me a handful of new recruits.

Holy goddamn. I ran into the fight with
Quiet
about four missions early. I figured I might as well finish it, but
I didn't want to kill her
, so I
chased her around with my tranq pistol.
Took me an hour, but felt so damn good.
