I would if I didn't need to actually be at work tomorrow for an event. I'm going to be struggling not to call out this week. At least there's a long weekend coming up.

We have a new employee starting tom so I can't call in either. I had the option this year to take my two weeks vacation whenever and I chose to take it from Nov 12-30 so that I'll be home the day Fallout 4 releases and with the Thanksgiving holiday and Veterans Day holiday I get 19 days off in a row but only use 10 vacation days.

I'm kind of wishing I took it for MGS right now. I'll probably feel better tom after work though.

It can be wrong, but that's because updating release states is a manual process that has to be done at Valve's end. Situations like Alien, which released a day earlier than indicated, happen because the publisher changed its mind, not because the timer was wrong to begin with. Publishers not being able to change release states themselves is also why games don't release on weekends.

SteamDB is a useful resource, but it isn't privy to any special information regarding release dates. It believes every app releases at 00:00 UTC and in rare cases doesn't even get the date right.

Edit: It appears that SteamDB recently nixed release date times. Just the date is mentioned now.

Whoa, for a second I thought your avatar was Eminem. Freaked me out.

Oh hey! Our first real screenshot of MGO3.

I wonder why that is? Do they just drop a load in the later hours of the game or is there a behind the scenes production story we are not aware of?

This being the last of the Big Boss series, I would think it would go out with a bang.

If I had to guess I'd say that Kojima didn't want story length to dictate game length. He wanted to be able to put as many missions in the game as he wanted to without worrying about crafting a narrative big enough to support it. Given that MGSV seems to be about as big as all of the non-Peacewalker games combined then it would have required the essentially the equivalent story content of all of MGS1-4 to keep anything remotely similar to the previous game/story balance.

On top of that it's been 7 years since MGS4 and modern concepts of effective storytelling in games has shifted quite a bit. Cutscenes are generally not viewed as "rewards" for gameplay the way they were in the PS1 and PS2 days. MGS4 had almost 1/3-1/2 of its length as cutscenes. Love it or hate it, MGS4 didn't really have the gameplay to support the amount of story (hence Chapters 3, 4, and 5) so it doesn't surprise me at all that Kojima would intentionally back away from that.

I really don't want to buy a controller on top of Canadian pricing just to play TPP :( I guess I'll try to sort out my DS4Windows issues...

Is your issue related to lagging the computer, having "processor" issues, or having BSoD with Plug'n'Play/PNP drivers, or having game crashes?

If so, then your issues can be a few things that I troubleshooted myself and found nowhere on the internet.

1. You started DS4Windows while steam was on. Even when you quit out of steam proper afterwards and quit out of any processes, it stops Exclusive Mode for Windows 10 from working properly and ends up with numerous driver issues for some reason. This is especially true in Bluetooth where I've had PNP drivers give me a BSoD. which I've never had before. Once again, make sure all non-necessary processes are ended BEFORE you start up DS4Windows.

2. You have manufacturer bloatware/sync applications that are interfering with DS4Windows. Turns out I had three "sync" applications from ASUS,Windows, and some third-party company because I bought my computer pre-built. On top of this ASUS had even more applications running, and it wasn't until I uninstalled the whole ASUS folder and turned off Microsoft Cloud Sync that I was able to actually get exclusive mode working at ALL.

If not, I'm sorry if I couldn't help!

Another thing I noticed is that this issue is more frequent if you are using USB+Bluetooth in DS4Windows. This is enough to give my PC a PNP driver error that gives me a Blue Screen of Death.

There is a middle ground between something like MGS4, and the narrative that seems to be going around that Kojima has thrown storytelling under the bus for MGSV.

V is HEAVILY slanted towards gameplay. Far more so than any other game in the series. But the story is there. The game regularly drops you 1 to 3 minute long cassette tapes which expand upon a lot of the narrative. There are still cutscenes too. Sometimes you'll go a couple of hours of game time without seeing one, which admittedly is unheard of for Metal Gear Solid, but they will arrive and they are worth the wait. Some of the cutscenes in MGSV are right up there with anything else in the series. There's just more game going on between them.

This made me think, in the past I remember for various Metal Gear games the overall cutscene length for the game was discovered before release on (if I remember correctly) a movie/film site that had game "movie" (cutscene) length as well.

Has anyone found anything like that? I'd be very curious. Since I know that would be considered spoilers to many, if you do find something like that, please spoiler tag your response.

I'm stuck at a bit late on in the story, it's not really a massive spoiler but just don't look unless you're late on in the game.

I'm being serious, don't look. It's your own fault if you do!

Regarding Motherbase...
An infection has broken out and a lot of my staff are starting to die, I ran around and checked staff but didn't notice anything. Do I keep going with missions or is there something specific I need to do?

Is what I've heard about side ops not being replayable true?

If so that is horseshit. What the hell.

Not replayable, most are really basic boring stuff. It's a shame cause adding a score or rankings of some kind would turn a mundane task into something more interesting. Side ops should have been unique score based objectives, instead it's just a simple objective.

Heh, after debating for the longest time, I took a personal day tomorrow.

Yes my man. Good move.

Oh, yikes. The shooting range Side Ops in this are... not very fun.

I just did the first one and you have to find 35 targets strewn about Mother Base and hit them all in a time limit. There doesn't seem to be a "pathway" for the targets either so you're kind of left just running around a giant maze with a lot of dead ends.

These are going to suck.

It's only that one, all the others are super easy. I have yet to finish that one, really odd that it's the first one.

Does anybody else who has played the game find the intro credits for every mission extremely annoying? They spoil characters and even boss fights, i wish there was an option to disable them : /

I look away from the screen during the intro to not spoil me anything : /

Creatively I hate it. Intro credits, after credits and the Konami logo after every single mission. Makes the game feel segmented to me.

it's only the first one that sucks, dont worry the other ones are fine they have a "pathway" :)

Actually they are all simple except for the R+D one which is bit of a nightmare. I eventually worked out target locations by working level by level and repeating it a number times making sure i checked every nook :)

Also the ones i kept missing at first was under some struts near top level and a few round side accessed by climbing across pipe/vents.

Also i found it helpful to do it at night with NV on as targets show up as yellow

I pre-ordered this on Xbox one. Am I gonna be able to play at midnight or does it still have to download? The file size on my hard drive says that it's over 20 gigs, but I can't tell if it's already downloaded or if it's just saving space for when it's available to download.

Is there any online in MGSV ? Beside MGO I mean.

Yes, there is the Forward Operating Base. You can infiltrate other Forward Operating Bases of other players.

It is an extension of Mother Base basically. Search it, there are probably 100s of posts that will explain it more in depth than that.

Tried to start my car this morning and nothing happened. My first thought wasn't about how much it would cost to repair or what I'm going to do about work, it was "what if I can't get this fixed quickly and don't have any way to go pick up metal gear tomorrow?"

Any micro-usb cable will work. And if length is an issue, just get an extension. No one is fundamentally better than the other.

I'm an idiot with cabled controllers and should really invest in an extended cable. I recall getting easily excited in Ground Zeroes and accidentally disconnecting my controller while interrogating an enemy soldier. Good times haha

Nope, no one has played the PC version yet.

This worries me. The fact they had pushed up the release for PC (which I'm very thankful for btw) may mean we could see some crazy bugs that will not show until 8 hours from now. Backup your GZ saves people, just to be on the safe side.

I'm assuming I'm late as hell in posting this, but I just read this little tidbit in the manual:

"MB Coins (paid currency) are required in order to purchase waters in more than one region."

So uh... having more than one FOB requires microtransation purchases? Lol if true.
