I would advice against stepping down from your monitors native resolution at all costs.
stretching pixels is a no-no.
compressing them on the other hand, is boss.

It's downsampled to 1080p, so giving up 1440p is not that big of an issue. I guess the game ready driver might also be optimised for the game to squeeze out a few more fps.

Curious about this as well, also if the DS4 prompts are in-game or if they will need to be modded in like GZ was.

issues were resolved with the last release of ds4windows for me ( it use the killing explorer.exe method)

I'm not sure we know anything about the PC version outside of dev tweets/comments and speculation based on GZ, I just hope Kb+m controls are better.

I'm using my DS4+DS4windows with GZ on Windows 10 and I have no problems :/

I really don't want to buy a controller on top of Canadian pricing just to play TPP :( I guess I'll try to sort out my DS4Windows issues...

I was just playing Ground Zeros with DS4... never have had any problems with DS4Windows, I'm still on Windows 8.1 though.

DS4Windows has issues with Windows 10 because of the lack of exclusive mode :/ No issues with Windows 8.1, so it makes me wonder why Windows 10 changed things on that front.

I really hope the deadzone issues with the controller aren't in TPP like they were in the PC version of GZ. No matter what controller I used there were very large deadzones, I had to move the stick like 25% before it would register movement. I used a program called Duranzo to tweak the anti-deadzone but I'd prefer to not have to.

I wonder what settings I'll need to turn down to get 30fps at a minimum at 2160p (on a single GTX 970). I just got this TV, and I know I certainly can't get anywhere close to 60 fps, but I'm fine with 30 for the extra resolution and turning down a few (hopefully) settings.

Yeah usually when you unlock a group of three you know those won't really have any significant story moment, after those you unlock one mission that advanced the story.

But each mission is something new, they take place in new bases and have changing objectives and many introduce new enemy types and concepts. It's super well paced in terms of gameplay. It's just really lacking story.

Alright, got ya. Will get an even better understanding once I play the game.

Thanks

I just played through ground zeros last night on Windows 10 with a ds4 and ds4windows, no issues whatsoever

if its like ground zeros you should be able to get 30 at nearly max settings, I'm guessing TPP will be a bit more demanding though

Hopefully a single 970 will get you close to 30 with minimal compromise (based of the GZ PC benchmarks linked above).

gotcha, sorry for the confusion.
I agree it would be better to run at native 1080p60 with HBAO+ enabled than downsample at 1440p60 without HBAO.

thats what I wanted to hear :) thanks!
tbh 1440p didn't do that much for me, barely noticed it. If HBAO+ in MGS5 will be like it is in other games it will make a huge difference!

I wonder why that is? Do they just drop a load in the later hours of the game or is there a behind the scenes production story we are not aware of?

This being the last of the Big Boss series, I would think it would go out with a bang.
Changing ideas of game design and narrative story telling in gaming from the design team and director?

Go to the Ds4windows website, there is a new version that fixed my windows 10 problems, download it and get rid of the old version, should help you out.

how hard does HBAO+ hit performance? I fear I might give up 1440p to still have constant 60fps with HBAO+ on.

This is from Witcher 3, but it's indicative of about the performance I've seen with HBAO+ in other games. I can't speak to how well it works on AMD hardware though.

Given the significant increase in image quality, one would ordinarily expect an equally significant reduction in performance, but because of its efficient DirectX 11 programming, and NVIDIA secret sauce, HBAO+ is only four frames slower per second than SSAO.

GZ didn't have HBAO but I ran it at 1440p with no issues, I'd bet if you have a GTX 6XX or higher you'd probably not see too much of a performance penalty. Though it depends entirely how it's implemented.

Is what I've heard about side ops not being replayable true?

If so that is horseshit. What the hell.

Yes it's true. For most of them. Some become replayable.

If your reason for saying "that is horseshit" is a worry about content then don't bother worrying. I have played the game for 21 hours and have completed 12 main missions and 15 Side Ops with a completion percentage of 16%. That's 15 Side Ops out of 150+..

The deadzone on the PS4 is absurdly small. If you just touch the move stick snake moves. It needs a much bigger deadzone... and I can imagine some 2 year old sticks are going to have massive drifting problems.

Some of the impressions here are affirming my fears that the game lacks the story pacing and immersion I was hoping for. After playing GZ a few times there are only so many times I want to do random missions on military bases I have visited before that don't tie into the story.

Yeah, the best thing I can suggest is to do your best to make your peace with it. I haven't played it yet either... maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised. It's a shame, but it feels like open world trumping narrative direction is just... here to stay with the industry.

The steam store page is always wrong.

What is more interesting is that steamdb says it unlocks in 9ish hours.

It can be wrong, but that's because updating release states is a manual process that has to be done at Valve's end. Situations like Alien, which released a day earlier than indicated, happen because the publisher changed its mind, not because the timer was wrong to begin with. Publishers not being able to change release states themselves is also why games don't release on weekends. TPP could very well end up unlocking at 12am ET as Peeler stated the other day, but that's entirely contingent on Konami informing Valve of the updated time, which it seemingly has yet to do.

SteamDB is a useful resource, but it isn't privy to any special information regarding release dates. It believes every app releases at 00:00 UTC and in rare cases doesn't even get the date right.

Edit: It appears that SteamDB recently nixed release times. Just the date is mentioned now.

Any tips on Mission 8 and Mission 9 S rank? I don't enjoy the
missile launcher usage missions. Haven't had an issue with S ranks up until these two because you have to blow shit up now
.

My game is now fucked because of the new patch too. Stuck on loading forever after this new patch was installed. I got the game way before the release date thanks to SImplyGames and played up to 15 hours+ in, now the new patch has done fucked it up. Way to go Konami.

PS4 version, EU, btw.

There is a middle ground between something like MGS4, and the narrative that seems to be going around that Kojima has thrown storytelling under the bus for MGSV.

V is HEAVILY slanted towards gameplay. Far more so than any other game in the series. But the story is there. The game regularly drops you 1 to 3 minute long cassette tapes which expand upon a lot of the narrative. There are still cutscenes too. Sometimes you'll go a couple of hours of game time without seeing one, which admittedly is unheard of for Metal Gear Solid, but they will arrive and they are worth the wait. Some of the cutscenes in MGSV are right up there with anything else in the series. There's just more game going on between them.
