I thought we were talking about videogames and not movies.

When in an industry that uses "cinematic" as an everytime excuse for little gameplay, 30fps, or scripted events, I welcome the change.

The game that popularized the use of them, shows that this media needs to evolve.

We are really going there? Stories have a very important place im gaming. I don't mind games that don't have a story, I just will never play them. That being said for a series that was one of the very first to focus on cinematic story telling you had better fucking believe the fans should expect them not to suddenly change direction after 20 years of focusing on the story.

You know what can take up an hour of time?

GZ Run.

Only got to play about 3 hours earlier

These kinds of intros don't impress me anymore, sadly. I was ready for it to just leave me alone after about 20 minutes. It really starts coming together when you're dropped into the open world with these marvelous mechanics, but I can't shake this feeling of "It ain't your father's MGS anymore." I wonder how I'll feel about it at 20 hours. At 40 hours.

Just a little less than an hour! Having only played GZ, I've never been huge Metal Gear Fan, but I'm pretty excited to see Kojima's send off for series. I'm looking forward to a good stealth game.

I wish I couldn't do it in 7 minutes. I can't force myself to take it slow at this point.

I probably played GZ more in the last 2 weeks, than the entire time since it came out. So I'm both not burned out by it, and also didn't do it so much to know it backwards and forwards like what you say.

Net_Wrecker plz, I'm supposed to be at max hype going into 12 o'clock.

Same here.

I waded through a bunch of "spoilers", I have no fucking clue what is going on, but the game looks fun so I'm fine.

A lot of the story and cutscenes in MGS2 were of Raiden scouting an area, noticing certain things, talking or being talked to by the Colonel, or Pliskin, and then devising a strategy to tackle the situation, and upon each step, more cutscenes and codec calls would appear, and again upon completion.

What MGSV does is give you the control. YOU observe and survey an area, and come up with a point of entry, plan of attack, and upon completing objectives, it's up to you to continue and explore or get out. If you were to remove all of that pointless exposition from the other games, then I'm sure their gameplay to cutscene ratio would more equally mirror MGSV.

That's exactly how I feel about it and I put the same amount of time into it as you did.

I'll be pretty pissed if I don't get the game where I pre-ordered in a few hours.
Living in Brazil sucks, I can never be sure if things will work on time.

My timer says >60 minutes till unlock, so I'll tell myself that everything will be ok.

Well the tweet does say "some" so there's a good chance this only affects the West Coast

Edit: 45 minutes and I keep mashing the "Coming Soon" on Steam in the vain hope that it'll start downloading for some reason

The intro thing might just be me, I'll admit. It's impressive in a showy "WOW, LOOKATDIS INTRO BANG BOOM" sort of way, but every "cinematic" game has been trying to do that for like 7-8 years now and I'm just kinda over it, y'know? I respect the work that goes into it, but that's as far as my praise can go.

As for the rest.....well, like I said, I'm super early. My only takeaway so far is that the mechanics and dynamic between the player and AI are A+, fantastic, incredible. The rest is so different from what I loved about MGS that I really don't know where I'll stand with this game after I put a decent chunk of time into it.

I suggest anyone who hasn't done so yet, do NOT connect online. Has done nothing but ruin my enjoyment of the single player with the invasion crap, interupting missions, nabbing soldiers and resources from me if I try go offline, and it doesn't save mission progress like it says it does.

Makes menus slow also.

Good riddance to Kojima with this BS.

yo is steam forreal when they say 1 hour till download??????

what

I just woke up. Stores open in less than 2 hours so I can get my PS4 copy, and Steam unlocks soon too.

It's going to be a good day.

These past few days playing MGS5 was boring and hell in my opinion. I was really hyped when they revealed it in 2012 and followed the game to this day. But the first day I got the game I thought this would be best mgs story. But I was wrong :(. I don't trust kojima with MGS anymore this might sound a bit evil but I'm glade that konami let go of Kojima.

damn hot take son
