Went with Steam version after reading someone’s review. SteamDeckHQ finished it on there without any issues. Preloaded this morning. Waiting to finish SH2 before starting.

LMAO the poll results tho

Look at ALL THE MILLIONS OF JRPG FANS ON XBOX

This is why Square Enix doesn't take releasing Final Fantasy on Xbox seriously at all

This is why Japan in general doesn't take releasing games on Xbox seriously

Still on the demo and is it me or is that game actually pretty hard? My only real experience with these type of game is persona 5 and I really didn't have much trouble with that at all, outside of the very very end. Also have the game in normal so not like I tried to punish myself or anything.

still in the nord mines and beat the mini boss, which was not easy. Then like right after there is a dragon to fight. The dragon seems optional but damn is that a lot to get through in a short amount of time. Even the rest rooms don't take you back to full hp or mp.

Overall fun game from the demo. Not sure how I feel about the regular combat though. I like how it does allow you to kind of just skip through easier enemies without going turn based, but it seems a little wonky with hit boxes and what not.

Welcome to Press Turn, Persona 3-5 have Once more System which is waaay more forgiving compare to SMT's Press Turn.

Depending on the class you have different melee weapon and some weapons better than others when comes to real time action parts.

Welp at least I'm not crazy. Can't recall ever being bad at a turn based game before. Maybe I'll get more accustomed to it but so far it really just feels like I'm learning but getting my ass kicked lol.

I did notice that when I had mage equiped, think that does help. Still think it's a little odd though, especially when trying to dodge due to lack of space and camera angles. But don't think it's that big a deal. Can always just spam the squad button and go to turn base if it doesn't click.

Honestly I found the demo content to be harder than the early content of SMTV and I'm saying a lot here right now

In SMTV you can recruit different demons to build your party even early on but in Metaphor you have to work what you have.

Edit: also the fact Nahobino is much more mobile and can out run most enemies, while in Metaphor there are enemies like those worm creature who can ambush you from underground if you are no careful.

Put some time into the demo on PS5. Were there supposed to be performance problems in this? Yeah the framerate isn't that solid but it's a lot better than I was led to believe. It definitely didn't feel like it was dropping into the 40s in town. Game starts off a little weak but by the time you start unlocking the bond system it starts getting that persona feeling again which is great. Looking forward to playing the full game on the pro.

I was in the same boat. The game isn't chasing technical wizardry like TLOU or Hellblade or something. I think it looks fantastic, its a typical game that shows art direction is king. Framerate is mostly solid with some chugs in battle areas, game looks colorful and slick. Excellent gameplay. Very good.

Phew! My copy has just shipped. I should have the game in my hands tomorrow before my workday is over.

Very good stuff there!
Speaking to Quest Daily (thanks, GamesRadar+), director Katsura Hashino allayed our fears: "We didn't want players to feel limited by time. You can return later to places you've visited using a fast travel system to do everything you want without feeling rushed."

To be honest, I’ve had more misses than hits with my most recent pre-orders:
  • Emio: The Smiling Man – delivered 2 days after the official release
  • Ace Attorney Investigations Collection – 2 weeks delay, lol
  • Astro Bot – received it a day before the official release
Just happy this one gets delivered on time.

To any theorycrafters here, how are you guys building Strohl? What archetypes are you focusing on after maxing out Warrior?

It would better question for MC because you have much more control over how you build him.

Strohl for most part is gonna be your main physical DPS.

Played through the demo twice and ended up going with a Strength/Agility/Luck hybrid for Will. Maxed out Healer for the free turn heals (and to complete More's mission) and then switched over to Brawler. Heal magic also doesn't scale off the magic stat and it's based on weapon power.

With SMT I usually go with strength build because most of the time strength kills at end game end up out damaging magic skills.

But in Metaphor Strohl and Hulkenberg already fill that role, so this time around my MC is gonna be MAG focus build Agility.

I went pure luck, wanted to see if it did anything. Couldnt see a noticeable effect.

Luck mostly about you getting critical hit more often and battles going more on your favour like statues ailment effects enemy more often rather than miss.

Luck is not good but itself, it’s usually good with Strength build because you want to do critical more often.

yeah i always try luck builds just to see if there's anything fun with them. but it seems like it's not worth it to build as a main stat.

Yeah in SMT Luck and Agility are not very reliable sates that you can make entire build around it. Even if you have high luck you still need passive skill that increase your critical rate in order to be effective.

Good. I hate timers in videogames
Well even Persona is not really “timer” like it is in game like Dead Rising.

For example: in Persona sometimes you given the choice to go movie with a friend or study in library, you cant do two of them at same day because doing one of the activity will automatically pass the time.

Btw for anyone sensitive to aliasing and playing the game on pc there are a couple of tricks that I can recommend you to fix the issue.

First of all I hate jaggies with passion so it has been my purpose always to find ways to minimize it in games that dont have TAA and for this game I found something interesting

First, removing camera shake will reduce aliasing, you can find this in the gameplay settings options.

Second thing I recommend, do not use the rendering setting inside the game, it's not good. Use instead DLDSR which is a extremely effective feature from Nvidia, it has better AA and will give you better performance

And third and last, use TAA shader from reshade, its called vort_shaders. In order to use install the latest reshade version normally and choose vort_shaders when you get the list of shaders. After that, launch the game open reshade in game, select SMAA first and put it on top. This step is extremely important for this thing to work, dont forge it

Then select vort_motions and you'll see a menu down. You'll see that next to TAA there is a 0. Change it to one, and press enter. After that you have a slider to configurate how much AA you want applied, I recommend, play with it until you find what you like more. The trade off for using this is that there is a slight blurriness, but the results are so good that it's worth it, specially at higher resolutions.

I am playing the game at 8k with this shader and I haven't seen a single jaggie anywhere.

Hope this helps someone

Enjoy the game papitos

I need a good metaphor image for my iPad wallpaper. Any suggestions? I wish companies would consistently put wallpapers on their official websites.

Tried the demo last night on PC

Well first…. No native ultrawide support 🤦‍♂️ Typical Japanese tech knowledge. Anyway there’s a mod for that, but it stretches the UI.

Second, holy aliasing. No AA solution? I think it’s the first time I see this on PC since early 2000’s even at 200% upscale it looks jaggied. I just saw Gonzito Gonzito ’s suggestion for it, so I’ll try that tonight.

So overall, Atlus is such a newb with tech..

But damn the game is fun. I’m overloaded with games and didn’t want to buy this day 1, but it’s damn fun

I've been playing some of the demo, and honestly it kind of just feels like a cheaper version of Persona. I don't necessarily dislike it (I do like Persona after all), but it kind of feels like it isn't really spending enough time to build up to things. ie When you start unlocking social links (or "bonds"), I still don't even really know who the fuck these characters are yet or give a shit about them. Compare it to say the first social link you get in Persona 4, and it makes a lot more sense when that happens.
The pacing is kind of fast, the story (so far) isn't particularly interesting, and for a fantasy world with an original setting, lore, etc having a faster pace seems kind of detrimental to me.

On the other hand, so many of these reviews are raving about the game with some even talking about how it is their goty. I can only assume it gets dramatically better after the demo or something.

The game is already my GOTY* just based on demo. I can't see Ys Nordics beating it. If it somehow gets better from here, then could it be one of the best JRPG ever?

*Disclaimer: I am only 10 hours into Trails through Daybreak, so that is also a contender.

Did you heed the warning about the enemies in the mine? Did you follow the strong suggestions to bring a mage?

Weaknesses are critical on both attack and defense.
I don't recall seeing that but I had one of each class in the mine. I did switch up to have multiple mages to beat enemies at a point but idk. It feels like the game makes you have to play with trial and error. Not totally different then something like persona, but this just feels less forgiving.

One of the very first things told to us in this game is to be wary of “unknown” enemies. I am taking this as gospel. Anything I have yet to encounter could be deadly if I am not prepared.

I changed MC from seeker to mage strictly based on the conversation the party has before you enter the mines. So the game helps you cheat a bit there. I wonder if this is just a prologue thing or if the fairy will be like Fi from Skyward Sword, spoiling everything beforehand.

I haven't played the remakes yet and went straight to Emio. I'm halfway through and so far I've quite enjoyed it. I usually do like 30 min play sessions every other night just before bed, so it's taking me a while to get through it.

I’m playing Octopath Traveler II to tide me over until tomorrow at 10am when I get my copy from GameStop.

I also need to decide where my preorder funds from my cancelled Reynatis will go. Civilization 7?
