it doesn't tell you on that screen if they did strike, slash or pierce physical damage. You have to go out out to your equipment and see the weapons you can equip.
To be honest, this isn't that big of a deal. I rarely used normal attacks, and you can see all the special attacks from the archetype menu. Combat is all about special and synthesis attacks, and they are all labelled with their type.

I typically use special attacks more than normal but sometimes I need to use a normal attack to hit a weakness and get a free turn, especially when lower on MP.

I still think it's a stupid design choice. That page has so much info, a lot not needed already. Just throw a small icon to let the player know

Is there any penalty in terms of finishing each calendar’s main dungeon early? Like not getting those extra days to do quests/bonds?

Should I wait till the last day or do them ASAP?

You should do the first one (Grand Cathedral) ASAP because it unlocks being able to bond with your teammates.

Can't remember about the rest but, in any case, there's no penalty for doing them early at all.

I think I'm towards the end, before the last act,
I'm headed to the academy.

I hope it recovers something in the end.
I'm really disappointed, I didn't expect something so mid

In terms of story ?

If you are not satisfied now the later game wont change your mind I think.

I’m struggling a little bit with this game if I’m being honest because it seems to be lacking that something special to keep me engaged. I already feel like I’m just going through the motions, only 10 hours in.

I find the time limit a bit confusing because I’m not sure how long the dungeons will take to complete, or how much of an impact the side missions will have on the time limit. Do all side missions that occur during a specific period need to be completed before the main missions, or can I carry on with them after the main missions are completed?

yes, in terms of story, writing and script especially, it's all so banal, predictable and incapable of involving... it reminds me of gow ragnarok who missed almost every decisive point of the game on the emotional plane.

in altabury i was excited, finally something big was happening and everything is done so badly, listlessly and quickly...

you can do secondary missions even after the main events, it is recommended because sometimes they will ask you to return to those dungeons.
you can do the main ones on the first day, I haven't had any problems so far, you just need to have supplies to heal yourself and recharge your pm (sometimes they weren't even needed).

don't even buy weapons and anything else until the end, you'll always find something better in the dungeons

Yeah, same. It lost me quickly, sadly. It's easy to pinpoint too: The writing is really awfull bullshit (rAcISm iS bAd mkayyy???), even by JRPG standards, and then there's the heavy focus on Fujoshi. Like you can clearly see who they were trying to reach as an audience here by looking at the main cast, their design and their mannerisms, and then compare this to Persona 3, 4 or 5.

I could probably tolerate one of these issues, but combined they simply suck the fun out of things for me. Like alright I'm not in it for the story, but I'm not even it in for the characters, which is pretty much a death sentence.

It's a good game on a technical level. They improved on most of the systems of previous games and these improvements do elevate the game quite a bit. Too bad everything else sucks ("sucks" is a strong word but you get the idea).

I really want to finish this at some point (still got it installed even) because obviously there are parts to like, maybe even love. But I really don't like the direction they took this in and I hope they don't mess up Persona next. This could've easily been like a 10/10 GOAT, instead it's more like a 8/10 at best.

I think I hit the final deadline/dungeon in this game, taking my time with the last month.

Man this game recycles so much fucking content.

The damn side bosses on last dungeon are boring variants from the ones you faced before? :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Well they don't have 10 years worth of SMT models to repurpose, so...

Well, finally finish it.

Maybe I had my hopes way high up considering this was Atlus biggest project outside Persona, after outputting so much Persona games.

I honestly thought this would be larger and better in scope, but kind of falls short on that regard. In the end it feels that they didn't fully take the risk they should.

Like I've stated here and on many other topics, I think the game cuts so many corners that it just doesn't have that AAA feeling. It gives more of a budget feeling.

Plus the engine doesn't help. Game feels dated.

Narrative wise it manages to be fresh for a while, with a decent amount of highs, but also lows. Cast is good and the villain is amazing, even though his final apperance felt rushed to me. The story was what managed to push me until the very end.

The gameplay is more challeging than Persona, yes, but I was expecting more variety and mechanics.

Overall it's a mixed bag for me. Doesn't mean it's bad, but certainly didn't manage to live up to what I was truly expecting from it.

oh so there is a discussion thread for this, this forum search function sucks, cause if you search metaphor, this topic doesn't show up, but the other review one that got locked.

Kind of glad your stat build isn't as strict as in SMTIV, cause my stats are messed up, i went str, but I made my character a sniper cause guns and bows are cool. But the final stage is a bunch of magic atk skills.

Basilio is the secret MVP for endgame. Now I spend all my combats buffing his attacks before he hits with his ability that gives weakness to physical damage, and I have attached to him the trinket which gives him two turns in a row. He hits like a truck with 2-3k damage each time reapplying weakness and obliterates every enemy, even the dragon super bosses (playing on hard). All three other characters are basically rendered useless lol except for buffing him / debuffing enemy defenses. In case by miracle an enemy gets a turn, Hesmay has agility to the max and the trinkets that deletes all the other turns from the ennemies when he dodges

I wonder if this strat will work as well with the final boss as it does with basically every other enemy now.

Imo, best party would be:

Hero as Mage/Healer
Junah as Persona Master to create weak points
Either Hulkenberg to tank hits/do counters or Heismay to do evades
Basilio to break stuff

Yes basically that’s my end game party (with Hero as Prince) with Heismay.

Strohl is kinda useless in the end game I think, his royal archetype is 100% physical and Basilio is much more efficient as a DPS monster machine

which one is stronger, severe or extreme?
also, what's the best way to lower defense, there's like a hundred different attack buffs but like one pierce type or spell that lowers defense

Just completed it and loved it. The overall story and message came together neatly once the credits rolled. Like a lot of Atlus games at points it gets drawn out with having too many days between dungeons, but I felt it was better balanced than Persona.

The music is masterful. The art is georgeous, and the presentation and time put into the design is some of the best I've seen in a JRPG.

I'm hyped for a sequel for which I hope they're already balls deep in development so we get it shortly after P6.

The more comments I read the more Im glad I avoided this.

Might as well just fire up P4Golden or P5Royal since I barely touched em

idk, the music is just okay for me.
like of course the generic battle bgm is fine, the awakening theme is killer, but the regular dungeon theme and town themes don't really leave an impression on me.

but wow, tough crowd in this topic, but then again, I played and finished thru the Fire Emblem x SMT game.

I'm creeping up on the end. I had to pick between doing the last few optional dungeons and maxing out my last follower, and I chose the dungeons. Probably ready to beat the game on my next sit down. 90 hours.

I aggree, P4 > P3, better bunch of friends and I enjoyed the story more and the TV universe. After finishing Golden, I was left sadden with the loss of my P4 friends.

But Metaphour makes me smile, because no matter what people say. Turn based combat is still amazing and engaging when done correctly. Perfect handheld or portal game to play.

I really admire how much Atlus gets from artistic style compared to developers chasing real life graphics and not making profit. Japan is really leading the way now.

on the last month, I might dive right into newgame+ right away, even though I have a big jrpg backlog.

I guess for the super edition, they're gonna add the 9 and 10 bonds for dating and love. a king needs his harem

wow, okay, i guess the dragon towers is for post game or something.
Went into it blind, and got wrecked. They're lv70 and I'm only lv59. Looked up some guides and even then, just can't last long enough.

Last boss is total bullshit. I defeated 2 phases on normal but last one is total idiocy.

Dropped to lower difficulty to beat him, I don't have time for shit like that.

Overall I loved this game, 9/10 from me (~100h).

I steamrolled through the last boss on hard at the first try, without even having a party member die once.

Fight was too easy imho and I was kinda let down to see my strat was working so well.

Was level 69 and broke all the crystals beforehand

Shoulda called it Eldan King.

Finished the game today and I don't know about the ending. Had great fun with the game, but the trials, last dungeon & final boss were a bit underwhelming. The epilogue didn't really pay off for me either.

The journey was a blast, I just wish the ending was stronger.

last month stuff.
the one thing I dislike is that
The Prince archetype is so OP, there's no excuse not to use it other than as a personal choice to handicap yourself. Just throws any character building you had during the rest of the game out the window, cause Prince is the OP canon archetype.

last month kind of boring.
also Louis's reasoning is generic and lame.

beat it. liked the ending cinematic.

74 hours, and beaten at lv74 which I found amusing.
