Metro-North riders fed up with man who sprawls out on train

The Metro North, like most public transportation in the New York area, is absolutely packed during commuting times. Other people need to sit on the long train ride. Making other people stand because you're bitch ass is taking up FOUR SEATS is absolute bullshit and makes you an enormous asshole that cares only about yourself.

How hard is it to just ask him to sit up if the train is full? If he were asked everyday I'm pretty sure he'd just figure out that's not going to work. Instead we get this passive aggressive nonsense with month long picture montages and internet pitchforks. The ultimate lul of this thread is all the people claiming they would just sit on him or throw his shit off the train or fart on his head, yes, lets correct what is at worst a faux paux with dehumanizing behavior.

Where in the article does it say the train is packed? I mean, if it were, I've gotta imagine someone would wake him, rather than just taking passive-aggressive photos.

And if the train isn't full, who gives a shit? Sounds like a bunch of people just upset that one guy isn't following the rules, even when it's not actually adversely affecting them.

Former New Haven line commuter with friends who took the line from White Plains every morning. I was on the 6am but a few of my friends were on the 5:36am every morning and that shit is packed going into Grand Central. Most trains from 5am-9am are incredibly busy. It may not be 100 percent at capacity, but riders should not have to walk a bunch of cars because some person wants to sprawl on four seats.

Does he really thing he's the only one with long commutes and a hard-to-manage sleep schedule?

Comes off as incredibly self centered.

motherfcuker. this is my train line.

can't believe he didnt even move when someone sat on his feet

luckily he takes an early train, not sure how packed the train is though at that hour, so if there is room he's fine to sprawl out as long as he takes his shoes off.

thousands of riders sleep sitting up though in one seat, don't know why he cant do that, or lean against the window at least

If i see him ever, i'm going to tuck a stuffed animal under his arm

Man if I'm on a full train and have to stand up for the trip and then notice that douchebag lying like that there's no way I won't just shove his legs off the seat. His excuse is shit because it's completely possible to sleep sitting up on a single chair, people do it everyday.

It's public transportation into NY during rush hour. It's implied.

It is bizarre to me that no one has really confronted him. The article did say someone tried to sit where his feet were and he just didn't move at all.

NYC had a lot of fucking people in it. It's on everyone to do their best to make things as efficient and easy for each other in crowded commuting situations. Normally people are extremely courteous to each other, giving up their own seat for elderly, mothers, etc. His kind of behavior IS dehumanizing in it's self. "Fuck these other humans around me, I need to sleep on this train like it's my own bed". Fuck him and fuck this behavior.

Dude best pull out the 4 tickets he paid for or my ass is going full force on his bag of stuff. "Boo-hoo I'm the only person in the world with a 90-minute commute"; TELL THAT TO MY ASS!

MTA officials said they couldn’t interview every conductor on that route to confirm that none of them had ever told Steve to take his feet off the seat.

I'm sure your irate customers would be willing to perform these interviews for you...

I'd love to know how many of you guys have actually ridden this train, or any crowded NYC train, during the commute.

What's most shocking is not this guy's behavior, which is bad enough, but the fact that no one told him to move. If I had to guess, I'd say people have asked him to move and he has, but he just goes and does the same thing the next day.

why is this news

First time reading the Post?

So I feel two kind of ways.

He has to get up mad early all the time and that probably fucking sucks so I can see why he wants to lye down.

I also think there are plenty of other people on the train that have to get up and aren't making it hard on the test of the car.

Also, I would never confront people on public transport. Maybe ask politely to make room but if they refused I would just move on.

if there's someone sprawled out sleeping, most people will assume they're homeless and will avoid at all cost

I guess to fully understand what an asshole this guy is you have to be someone who has to commute every morning on Metro North/LIRR/MTA.

When people ask him if they can use a seat, how does he respond?

This is making me feel kind of bad because I once went to sleep across four seats on a Boston train. It was a one time thing though, and once the train got more crowded someone eventually asked if they could use one of the seats, and I of course said yes and sat upright.

What an asshole!

Looks like somebody needs to be taught a lesson!

There is zero excuse, unless he has paid for four tickets!

I'm actually surprised nobody has asked him to move, this is NY after all. I've been on plenty of Metro North trains where I've had to wake someone up when they have their bag on a seat on a packed train and I want to sit down. I feel like someone would wake this idiot up just over the principle of it. I'm pretty sure I would if faced with that situation. Maybe nobody is since he looks like he's homeless?

Ultimately you have to blame the conductors. It's their job to make sure this type of shit doesn't happen on a busy commuter train.

Eh, if it is a packed train and nowhere to sit, and I see this. His shit goes on the floor, including him. Sorry, but everyone works, everyone is tired. Have some integrity, civic sense etc. I don't stand for asshole-ery. Ideally you would the Metro conductors or metro police to handle it, but eventually if nothing changes you have to do something if you deal with it each day. People being scared of him should also realize maybe we are people he shouldn't fuck with either.

"im tired" is a pathetic shit excuse to act like an inconsiderate twat to other riders. they should ban him after a warning if he keeps doing it

Why including him? Just let him keep one seat. The shoes on seat is a big no-no though.
And yeah, I've witnessed something similar. If I choose to take one of the earlier trains to work, it is always completely packed. So one time there was some smelly dude (hobo-style) with his giant backpack on the seat next to him, asleep (or pretending to be asleep). So no one really asked him to take it away which is was people definitely always do...except one guy. He asked politely, got no response and just took the thing and put it on his lap. No fucks given. Was pretty cool to see.

Fuck that noise. I have had to scoop people's shit and move stuff to get my seat and I'd do it with him. Fuck that. One ticket, one god damn seat. I like sitting wide my damn self but if shit gets crowded compact the fuck up.

90 minutes commute? Fuck outta here. I'm 2.5 hours in, 2.5 hours out everyday. Miss me with that "I'm tired" shit. Sleep on your own time.

That guy is an asshole. It is common public transit courtesy to allow people to sit in a seat where you have a bag etc. 1 seat per person you idiot.

Here I thought New Yorkers are in your face. But they're just as non-confrontational and passive-aggressive like everyone else.

Just the other day, I went to happy hour at a bar. Entire bar was filled up except one guy had an empty seat on either side of him. I told him a friend was coming and if itd be cool if he slid down to the next seat. He sighs and tells me he'll move in fifteen minutes. I say come on man,m it ain't hard. He refuses.

So I sit down next to him and tell him I'll just talk across him when my buddy comes, no big deal to me.

Isn't this a train that is coming INTO NYC? None of the people on the train are New Yorkers. This would not happen on an NYC subway during rush hour, at least not every day for a month.

A 90 minute commute on Metro North is the average. The train is fucking PACKED and people would have to stand for 90 minutes just so this gross man can get his napnap in.

At 5am no one wants to deal with the type of loser that would take up 4 seats at peak hour.

You should use quotes around "new yorkers" because they certainly are new yorkers coming into NYC. Just not the loud in your face stereotype that some are self congratulatory about.
