Hayter should have never been Big Boss in the first place imo, Kojima just fixing past errors. He's Solid Snake and that's it for me.
By signing up an expensive, super well known actor with a very distinguishing tone that will, most likely, confuse the shit out people? am I listening to Snake or Jack Bauer?
It doesn't make sense in any way. If they wanted to get rid of hayter they should have picked some other actor, preferably someone with an even lower tone, like Doyle. Sutherland is a terrible option: he's too well known, he has a higher pitched tone (which is weird since big boss is older and as you get older your voice doesn't get higher pitched), he will probably be asking more money, a lot more than hayter, he will probably be harder to get a hold to record, will probably ask for more if a sequel comes, and to top it off, the guy is phoning in his lines.
You could say Hayter is corny and hammy but that's all snake has ever been and the fans were happy. Why change it? Why pay more for someone who probably never even heard of the franchise or cares for it? I'd rather have Hayter trying his best to sound like he did in MGS1 than Sutherland reading a script, half a sleep, just for the paycheck.
If it was Doyle, I wouldn't mind as much. At least made more sense, canonically. So I don't think Kojima is correcting any errors, he's just adding more into the mix. Sutherland is a good actor, but this goes to show that Hayter wasn't so bad either. It's not just the quality of the VA that matters, the script and flow matter a lot too. And kojima writes some funky shit sometimes, not even Keifer can make it sound right.
/second, and final rant (sorry)
