MGS4 ending whining thread (major spoilers)

Hrm I liked the Meryl and Johnny fighting scene in Act 5. When they realized they loved each other, they started acting like one even though Johnny had no nano-machines.

I'm glad Snake didn't kill himself.

The hero killing himself at the end of stories has been done to death.

I agree that:

1. Kojima wrote himself into a corner.
2. He needs an editor.
3. For his next game (hopefully a brand new franchise) he needs to plan better.

But I'm seriously happy that Snake was able to die in peace. There's nothing 'cool' or 'noble' about committing suicide.

I was extremely happy that both Snake and Raiden got out of the game alive, and were able to live out the rest of their lives without having to deal with endless war and hardship.

- I'm still very sour on the whole Meryl/Johnny bit. It really taints the ending of MGS1 for me.

- I love Raiden. Love him (well, hrm...uh...). But if anyone should have died in MGS4, it should have been Raiden. His apparent death at the end of Act 4 was one of the most powerful moments I've experienced in gaming. Sadly, this moment was with me for all of 20 minutes as it was quickly revealed that he was 'recovering'. Oh well, I still revere Raiden as one of the best video game characters ever conceived. He was the reason why I left the series back in 2001, and he was the reason why I returned to the series in 2008. That's awesome.

- I still think it would have been cool to end the game with Snake returning to his shack in the Alaskan woods during the post-credits conversation with Otacon and Snake. In fact, the more I think about that possible ending, the more ticked I get. Make this happen for MGS4: Substantiated, please!

Ah yes, I remember when Kojima claimed MGS2 was his final Metal Gear game. :lol

This image adequately illustrates Kojima fans:

Well, maybe not - I suspect Kojima fangirls are coprophiliacs.

Pssht, it was way better than The Dark Tower ending!

edit:

wait, i read more of the thread... you people want Solid Snake to commit sucicide? :lol What is wrong with you people. If he died, sure, it was a fitting swan song, but Snake was born built and breathed on the battlefield... if he died by suicide, what a terrible waste of everything Snake is and Snake believes in.

You guys are terrible!

Snake fights because he reveres life. He fights to protect those he loves, and the way of life he sees as virtuous and noble. There is *NO WAY* an idealistic man like that would find it easy to kill himself; its like, sacrificing your principles which is something worse than death for a man like that. I thought it far more fitting - if he HAD to die - that it be protecting someone or on a battlefield not self inflicted. And some of you wanted that? Do you even know the character at all?

And don't even give me that "he didn't want to turn into a walking timebomb" nonsense. While he believed it, a man like that would have fought for everything till he died of exhaustion or wounds before he let himself pull his own trigger. There are other ways to kill yourself than a gun in your own mouth.

Snake loved life and was tortured enough defending it; let him enjoy his last 9 years in peace.
