MGSV: The Phantom Pain - New information revealed

I wonder if we can keep DD as a pup forever. I want an adorable killing machine with me on every mission.

DD will NEVER go on a mission with me. Like ever.

This isn't Fallout 3 where you could load a save and lazarus Dogmeat. If TPP is like GZ, it'll save randomly and you'll lose your pup forever.

they are making a figure of new Metal Gear from TPP.
Of course they haven't revealed the design yet but I think it's the one from E3 trailer?

Just re-watched the TGS '14 jungle demo and I barely noticed that Quiet actually hums Sins of the Father while idle at position. It's awesome.

The Metal Gear from E3 looks different though, it only has 2 legs, and the new one has 3. Either a design change or we can customize our own MG.

Do we know if MGS5 will allow you to roam the world freely outside of missions? I'm kinda worried exploration will be limited or too segmented due to the mission structure.

“This is a game that is not necessarily what you would call sandbox where you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want, like in GTA,” he said. “This is not the way this game works. For our game, you get in, you accomplish a mission and you get out. These missions are very simple; destroying something, arresting someone, killing someone, recovering something. It’s really simple in that regard.

“Players have all the freedom in the world to think about what method, or what route, what time of the day will they choose to get in and accomplish their mission. During these missions there’s a story that’s developing. But there’s a limit to what the player can do when away from this mission because it’s clear when there’s a mission to complete.

I was thinking they could just let you roam and encounter various bases scattered around, many optional, where you can picket enemies while gathering items. I don't know if that will be the case...

I'm also wondering how notable the items scattered will be. If you go out of your way to explore more, can you get an awesome weapon or something?

From the sounds of it, yes there will be free roam. My understanding is you can select a mission to undertake(Which there will be hundreds of ala peace walker) or just get dropped off in an area or your own mother base.

Players can get lost in the African jungle map without the iDroid. The game world is that big.

It was mentioned that players don’t necessarily have to use the helicopter to get from location to location, although it was stated that players might not want to walk from Afghanistan to Africa

According to Metal Gear Informer‘s report, players will be able to go anywhere they like in the world.

Once they accept a mission, however, things change: missions take place within a set area, and if the player leaves that area they will fail the mission. They may also fail if they procrastinate too much.

Missions are accepted while free roaming, rather than from a menu system. While free-roaming, you can do side quests and other activities.

i would guess item/gun acquisition is like peace walker. you find a "document" while exploring and then you can develop them provided you have enough infrastructure built up to do so at motherbase

OK, sounds awesome! Great that you can even walk from Afghanistan to Africa. I was worried you'd start off at Mother Base, pick a mission, then just get dropped off somewhere. Some of the missions would drop you off in the same area, but then you'd have a time limit or whatever to worry about.

I finished MGS4 yesterday and thought the ending was great. Just gotta play Peace Walker now and I'll be ready for GZ/TPP.

Had no idea about the second info snippet, Sn4ke! Awesome info. And with what they learned from Peace Walker, we'll have lots to do.

I wonder how they will handle then cutscenes and whatever. Like for example. You do a side mission or an objective, you keep going. Will you be skipping an interesting cutscene if you didn't go back to motherbase? how will all of that play out?

Can Snake swim again? I want to fulton some sharks.

Not sure about the sharks thing lol but I really hope there are big lakes we can swim in, finding stuff underwater etc.

Urgh they did not say you could walk from Afghanistan to Africa.

'You don't necessarily have to use the X-wing to get from location to location, but you might not want to walk from Tatooine to Endor'

If its close to mgs3 I would be so happy.

The gameplay in GZ was so amazing tho.
Yes, and MGS5 will be that and an insane amount of content and features added.
It (Ground Zeroes) seems so bareboned after what i've allready seen (probably not that much) of The Phantom Pain, haha.
