Wow, good job on this one Capcom. Keep fucking up your releases like that and the goodwill built during this past few years will be gone.Way too short,
too easy,
too streamlined,
too expensive,
and runs like trash.
Monster Hunter isn't a game that solely relies on launch window numbers. It's a mix between a GAAS and a premium game and they need it to be successful and popular until the launch of the next game. It's by a wide margin their most profitable franchises and the fact that their most popular platform is tanking like this isn't a small deal.Don't think Capcom will be crying looking at those launch numbers.
Pretty much. At the end of the month there's the next major update and the game will blow up again for a while until the cycle repeats. This is how GAAS and GAAS-like games function, when there's content to play people tune in, and when there isn't, people play other things until there is.
Does it contain loads of MTX?Monster Hunter isn't a game that solely relies on launch window numbers. Not aggressive mtx, but there are loads of cosmetics and content you can buy, so it's a huge revenue stream. It ain't like DD2 where it's "fuck you, we got your money, losers."Does it contain loads of MTX?
I don't play the franchise much. I tried World for a few hours but realised quickly its not for me.
I don't think that applies to Monster Hunter games. There's no new content for Monster Hunter World, yet there are more people playing that one. I've also seen many people go back to either Generations Ultimate or Frontier Z after being disappointed with Wilds easy difficulty and focus on story. This is how GAAS and GAAS-like games function, when there's content to play people tune in, and when there isn't, people play other things until there is.
It doesn't make much sense. And World never was that low in daily CCU where Wilds is now. 3.5 months after the release it still had 100k+ daily peaks, while Wilds barely reach 20k.Obviously, it's the base version of the game without updates Vs the complete version + expansion. Wilds will eventually get there, but it's early days.
World was the only modern monster hunter game, there was nothing else to go back to. If you want a complete release with challenge and G rank now, you go can go back to either Rise or Word in-between Wilds game updates where it gets stale. I was there back then and there was very little to do in World base game other than grind for decorations, but I would still keep playing because there was no other real alternative in the genre. It doesn't make much sense. Capcom is teaching people to never buy the base version of their Monster Hunter games. They cut too much content this time around.Wow, good job on this one Capcom. Keep fucking up your releases like that and the goodwill built during this past few years will be gone.

Yep, the series is not a GaaS. Main game + expansion has been the norm since the PSP days. Getting additional content via free updates is just a natural evolution due to modern distribution methods.I don't think that applies to Monster Hunter games. There's no new content for Monster Hunter World, yet there are more people playing that one. I've also seen many people go back to either Generations Ultimate or Frontier Z after being disappointed with Wilds easy difficulty and focus on story.
It's not a matter of having new content or not. Monster Hunter scratches a very specific itch and people will play them even if the game released 10 years ago and has no new content. It just seems that there are better choices than the last game when it comes to picking up a fun MH game to play.
Game had more than a million CCU on release. Monster Hunter is big on PC, and even if it's just an assumption, I'd say it's safe to say it's the same in PS5 and Switch since those platforms are also offering an alternative to it (Worlds and Rise). But yeah, just assumptions, no way to really know. It's a heavily PlayStation (and Nintendo)-associated IP
Same as Dragon's Dogma 2, allegedly. Good for them, bad for everyone else.Wilds is a financial success for Capcom, however it's a failure to longtime fans.
It's a damn shame when beloved series lose their identity when companies chase a larger audience. Monster Hunter has lost its vibe and abrasiveness that made it appealing.Same as Dragon's Dogma 2, allegedly. Good for them, bad for everyone else.![]()
Lesson learned: never buy a Capcom product that's being released close to the end of the fiscal year. Chances are it's been rushed and undercooked. This is the most shithole product from Capcom that i've purchased in years. Ultra excited to play the game, wait for it for five plus years, and get a mobile game in disguise of an AAA. Still disgusted with what they've done to my MH. These kind of games (and DD2) is what makes me lose hope in Capcom as a whole.
RIP RE9Lesson learned: never buy a Capcom product that's being released close to the end of the fiscal year. Chances are it's been rushed and undercooked.
Plus Alma stalker sucks ass. They better ditch her for the expansion.Obviously, it's the base version of the game without updates Vs the complete version + expansion. Wilds will eventually get there, but it's early days.
That's cope. The game is 75th on playstation most played.Doesn't this only include Steam?
For all we know, the community is more active on PlayStation 5; that wouldn't actually surprise me. It's a heavily PlayStation (and Nintendo)-associated IP, in spite of the recent PC uptick for late ports.
Again, very loaded statement considering this is only the Steam numbers, and the game was released on two other platforms.
Active player base could be low ATM on Steam but higher on PS5 and even Xbox. But I get why CCU threads get the attention they get: Valve's the only platform with actual transparency in providing player metrics & data (and it's something I've been arguing both SIE and Microsoft should adopt for their own platforms).
This is how GAAS and GAAS-like games function, when there's content to play people tune in, and when there isn't, people play other things until there is.
Sure, we all saw this before the first beta was released, and after trying the messy beta, it was only confirmed. But everyone has been waiting for the damn game for over half a decade, and if you're into MH, i mean, you gotta buy the damn thing, it's not like there's any alternatives. And i think Capcom knows this. They have no competition (which to me is fucking insane btw), so they release slop, and everyone into MH have to get it because it's that or nothing at all.Lesson learned: never buy a Capcom product that's being released close to the end of the fiscal year. Chances are it's been rushed and undercooked.
I don't think this is official data. That's cope. The game is 75th on playstation most played.
The game is a fucking disaster. Reminds me of New World, actually. Massive sales and success on launch, but zero endgame, zero challenge, zero content support to keep the live service going. This is MH Wilds for you.
The game needs a Switch 2 version ASAP.
Wasn't it a bit shit and too easy
Game is too easy.
being disappointed with Wilds easy difficulty
Same.I dropped out about 3/4 of the way through the story, it just didn't feel good to play,
