Michael Mann is making Heat 2

I mean...

Screw it..

This point I don't care. Sure, might as well give it a go. Top Gun was way better than I was prepared to give it credit for. Heat is one of the best Heist/Thrillers I've ever seen and still love that street scene and them moving through the blocks. Might work. I'll keep an open mind.

I bought the book and nothing can prepare for how bad it is. I never quit books once I start but I chunked it 100 pages or so in.

Also, this is a headline as old as time. Mann has been saying this for a long time and just repeated it again on a panel recently. I’m in full believe it when I see it mode at this point.

When the option is this or stuff like Robyn Hood, I’ll take these prequels. But for be damed if this is all Hollywood has to offer I’m going to A24 in a monogamous relationship.

Listened to the audiobook a while ago.

I hope there are significant changes to the film version because the book was very average and forgettable, IMO

If Mann is behind it I'll embrace it.

You can't just be cynical all the time. Unless some have a better idea of what an aging director should do with his last movies.

The novel he released last year is actually pretty okay, in a campy kind of way.

However, it is both a prequel to and a direct continuation of the first movie which brings a ton of problems regarding casting. Imagine having to recast Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Val Kilmer, Ashley Judd, Tom Sizemore, Jon Voight, Danny Trejo while keeping the on-screen chemistry. Good fucking luck with that.

Also, Michael Mann hasn't made a good movie in decades.

If you really think that then godspeed bro

Thief actually has more in common with Heat if we're rolling with the Mann library

Heat is basically Thief 2
I agree. I was giving you a little troll engagement.

Miami vice is a good procedural cop show. Heat is great heist film.

What was the last good one? Collateral?

Heat is my favorite film of all time. The follow-up book was ... alright, but this is one of those cases where a prequel or sequel is completely unnecessary and likely only to sully the reputation of the original by association. Just bring the '95 movie back for another theatrical run, I would absolutely go for that.

I don't know... Mann always seemed to be pretty picky about the projects he invests himself in. Takes his time between films. You could be right, but I doubt it.

I'm in. Why not.

If Villeneuve can bounce around good and bad movies then produce something like the latest Dune movie I give every free pass to Mann as well. Fingers crossed.
