R.I.P. @01011001 I believed many of your opinions to be outlandish. I believed many of your assertions to be arrogant and elitist, but I will miss the hard core vibes that emanated from you. You were the hardcore of the hardcore.
Damn, say it ain't so. Now who do I have to let me know that the fun I'm having in Destiny is a result of my uncultured ignorance of first person shooter mechanics?

Seriously, this dude was a broken record trying to challenge anyone who dared praise the game. Must've heard the same line repeated at least 50 times.

Lots of theories that it is ending tomorrow. Others suggesting it be sometime after. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised either way.
At this point, I think it will be along the lines of that earlier tweet… deal will be allowed to close tomorrow with the provision for CMA having the opportunity to work out any remaining concerns with MS.

The timing of everything over this weekend points to a huge push for everything to be completed and in line tomorrow … especially the news this morning of the agreement between Sony and MS.

There is ALWAYS a reason and timing consideration behind a corporation publicizing a deal or agreement - and there's really no other reason to explain why the deal was announced this morning (on a non-business Sunday) …

Yeah, I think you are right. The dominoes started falling right after the FTC lost, didn't they? Tomorrow will be interesting.

He did love telling other people their opinions were wrong, didn't he?

Tangentially related, supposedly there is going to be a batch of Activision games made BC compatible once the deal closes.

Source is sketchy nick.

I want to believe . jpg

Yes - IIRC - the CAT session for tomorrow was published right around the same time FTC was formally denied.

All of these public notifications are typically made for very specific reasons and are also based on timing / coordination with other companies / parties.

Edit:
Found it back.
This may not mean anything to most of us, but he does has a point.

Lol at people still thinking it's about xbox. They didn't purchase activision just for xbox. That would have never happened. They want to win in mobile, and will buy whatever properties needed, whether big or small. I remember people saying buying anything bigger than Bethesda was never gonna happen.

It could be like cable companies. All those bargain priced last mile providers you see advertising at bus stops that still use the main company's network. But instead of the main company hoarding it all at a higher price controlling it, they have to sell at dirt cheap wholesale prices to intermediaries as you say and they control the final price and bank the rest of the profits.

If this is indeed the route things take it will be interesting to see how it is arranged and worded. Can they still operate a cloud service for everything outside of ABK or will they give up cloud all together in the country, etc.

If it is too broad it might be something that weakens MS's position (or at least their profits) in the UK should cloud ever become the dominant distribution method (however unlikely that is at the moment).

On a side note, as someone with a trash tier PC and an XSS myself, I'm reporting GHG GHG for such an offensive post as #74,998 I'm completely triggered now. :messenger_winking_tongue: jk

A lot of those people who claimed MS can't buy Bethesda or Activision were the same lame brains who'd argue Bethesda can't be bought because the Xbox game division doesnt make enough profit to afford $7 billion.

Some people think that product/company acquisitions have to come from and be paid by the same division it will go to.

This is worse business methodology than anything Bernie Madoff did.

Not surprised. Spend $80 billion and expect no change for at least 5 years. That's crazy in my opinion.

I'm hoping your beliefs aren't the majority's. Because that'll be a sad day for gaming.
It doesn't matter what my beliefs are. All I've done is explain that Microsoft's acquisition of AB is not intended to move hardware on the short term and shouldn't be viewed as such. I've not expressed my opinion on whether I think this is good or bad. I'll give you my opinion if you want me to, but that post just serves to lay out the facts.

Wasn't there supposed to be an actual court case between FTC and Microsoft after the injunction or does losing the injunction and appeals kill that?

That will technically still move forward unless the FTC drops it. Their case wasn't anywhere near a strong one however, they even got chastised for trying to limit consumer choice and stifle market competition this last time around (which is kind of the opposite of what they are supposed to be doing). Maybe they've have some evidence or angles they haven't showed us yet though (in which case they were really stupid for holding those things back).

Defining Duke and Hoeg Law talking about what's likely to happen tomorrow and Monday as well as into the FTC's case.

I timestamped it at the beginning of the conversation. A good listen.

I feel like this is one of the few times I as a European get to be up to date most of the time instead of waking up to the drama being over and having to read 30 pages at once.

Eben though I voted will pass with some concessions back in the og poll, im Stil not 100% Sure how it'll end even now

Actively hoping for Xbox to fail in the hopes that another console maker shows up is quite laughable. Even you know that's extremely unlikely.

Aside from the fact that Activision was already a very profitable business with that headcount and those expenses, that's not how these things work. What does 'get their money back' mean?
It means, i make an investment to get my money back in say 2-3-5-10 years and then start earning on top. Or else why invest ?

They still might, but reading the room I would say it feels like the deal closed in the US over the weekend, so who knows?
Yeah, certainly seems like it. I don't really care about this merger so I haven't followed it much recently, but I was under the impression that the UK CMA both had the power to stop the deal and that the last I'd heard was that they are against it and for them, nothing has changed.

Did everyone just decide to ignore them on the basis that nobody else had strong enough objections?

Jim got 10 years of CoD, that's pretty good compared to 2024, then 2027....now it's 2033

Sounds like Jim's work paid off
As I linked earlier, it has been a 10 year offer as of Dec 2022 when MS proposed this agreement to them. I don't understand why you keep repeating that Jim got more by holding out this long. It's the same deal as 6 months ago.

Microsoft approached the CMA with the idea of submitting new remedies. The CMA are duty bound to consider this, it has to be submitted as a new proposal and they will review it by the 29th August.

They have a meeting scheduled today, and people are speculating that the CMA might bless the deal provisionally or allow the transaction to complete whilst they complete their new review.

Thanks for getting me up to date :)

Am I the only one that thinks this might backfire on Xbox? That's a lot of money to spend and obviously Microsoft as a whole is funding it as the Xbox division doesn't make that kind of money itself.

Microsoft big bosses will expect big results from such an outlay but I can't see Xbox gaining much ground on the console front. Plus Cod is surely trending downwards year on year due to Fortnite and other f2p games.

So yeah this puts a lot of pressure on the Xbox division I think. And Microsoft doesn't have the best track record with aqusitions, look at Skype.

Honestly what will kill Xbox is if they can't kill PlayStation.

I also believe it's not the safe bet many are hoping for but it is also very hard to predict much of what will happen next and how they gonna recoup/manage such a big acquisition with their actual offering

You are thinking shallow with this.

Xbox is going to get huge revenue, which allows them to reinvest that money on the platform.

With more users, they will be able to get games which they couldn't get before.

Essentially, this deals is going to expand the Xbox platform.
