Here's a question. Does Sony NEED to do anything at this point?

I've thought about a potential next move for Sony but I'm not at all sure they need to jump on anything like a reactionary purchase of a studio, studios or publishers.

I don't think this deal is going to move the needle much in terms of console dominance. Xbox is certainly sucking all the oxygen out of the room now, but after the controversy is over and the dust is settled, where does that leave us really?
Yes they need to buy a well known studio now. Its just the way things are now going forward

Article is behind Paywall. What does this mean? Related to the CMA stuff?

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan on Tuesday rejected an emergency request to block Microsoft and Activision Blizzard from merging.

In a brief order, Kagan denied a last-minute bid from a group of gamers to temporarily halt the $68.7 billion deal. The gamers' attorney, Joseph Alioto, argued the deal would lessen competition in the video game industry, urging the high court for a pause until the gamers' case can be heard in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Kagan received their motion because she is assigned to handle emergency requests arising out of the 9th Circuit. The gamers could now renew their request to any other justice.

D DestinRL care to explain how as a professional journalist you took the revelation that ABK had threatened to remove CoD from Xbox if Microsoft didn't give them a higher cut as Sony trying to lock up exclusivity and actually put that out to the public? :pie_thinking:

I'm surprised there has been no real news about the merger yet today. Maybe a free 3 Billion without selling anything is more enticing than I thought this morning.

He clearly forgot the most anticompetitive thing Sony did - the Spiderman DLC in that Avengers game.

All hail our new overlords Xbox. They will spend another 70 billion if need be

Still an opportunity for it to be closed today for the next ~4 hours.

But if it doesn't close and there's no news regarding an extension today I'd expect we will hear something before the end of the week.

Because "professional journalism" dosent exist anymore.. what we have in all types of "professional press" is paid shills, political agenda and so on...

We get more real information in a fucking gaf thread than from them

Still waiting?

Here's some clarity for what Tom was talking about earlier.

A source close to the matter told the site the two companies will continue to negotiate this extension if they do not reach an agreement by the end of today.
If the current deadline expires, it does not automatically mean the deal has collapsed, although it does enable either party to walk away.

Square also likely wouldn't have made FF mainline titles PS exclusive if there was an actual audience for them on the Xbox.

Zenimax was looking for exclusive deals.
Making COD exclusive? I thought MS was afraid of ABK walking away if they did not agree to a deal for the percentage cut.

These guys try to hard to make MS look innocent LOL
