Microsoft Conference: Will they Bring It Like Sony Did?

I really want to see them bring in some big games that are new IP. Hopefully in genre such as action/hack and slash/adventure/RPG etc. I hope they do a great job

The most exciting battle will be fought during E3. That is when we will see each player's hand fully, at least concerning the launch stuff. In terms of pre-E3 conferences, MS will have a hard time NOT doing better : Show the console; throw in one or two money-hat products; reveal the new functionalities of Kinect (Siri and voice activation); finish by a couple of sequels and one or two new IPs...
Done!

Let's see.

What to expect from a company with the most closed digital network, which most of it's recent focus is a camera based entertainment and which has severely few IP's that they focus on?

Oh I'm expecting Skittles to fall from the sky.

It's too late for Microsoft to bring it. Rumours are that the MS press event is less impressive and not as easy to understand as the SONY event. Also, It's far too late in the press conference process to just strap-on a better event. They'd have to re-design the entire idea of their press event to accommodate one that's as good as SONY's.

The fuck you talking about? MS won't have the technical edge, from what I hear, but they are supposed to wipe the floor with Sony in the presentation. Folks here in Redmond are NOT impressed with Sony's conference.

The rumours say that they're reserving a shitload of RAM and processing power for the OS, so maybe they have some big surprises on that front.

they didn't?

Until this moment, the system appears to be everything gamers wanted.

I mean... lol, you know what? There's no point talking to blind and deaf people.

Enjoy your kinect 2.

Dude. He just gave his opinion based on the question the OP asked, and you berated and insulted him. Was that necessary?

Sigh. I was making a ram/conference parallel joke. Poorly, apparently. :)

If that is true... Great. I hope Microsoft feels they can easily best it. Good for us as gamers.

Unless MS trots out an actual game developer to show off their new console I don't see how they'd get the leg up regarding the reveal. Especially here on GAF. Cerny really impressed a lot of people. MS certainly has money to hire Carson Daly to 'interview' Ballmer about the new Xbox though.

I just want them to officially announce the whole damn thing at once. None of this dragging it out for as long as possible by showcasing the next xbox piece by piece. That alone should be bringing it, even if it is a bunch of kinect stuff. It takes more than just a controller, some specs, and a few games to get me worked up.

How exactly would that be better than what Sony showed? That's fairly similar to what Sony showcased.

Sony didn't bring it. They did bring some nice next gen visuals that are cool to see, but the game's just weren't there. Nothing there to make me get super excited or really excited at all.

Truth. Who has MS got that is god-tier in the industry like Cerny to talk about the system's architecture and its functionality?

Haha! Not bad...Not bad at all!

I don't think people understand that what Sony showed us with PS4 isn't just some event they threw together — it represents their entire focus for the PlayStation brand now, and is the result of months/years of courting devs, and finding out how they can work together to make development easier. This isn't just something I've picked up from the event. This is something I've heard continuously from people prior to the event.

Meanwhile, Microsoft appears to be attempting to build a gigantic uni-platform which crosses computers, mobile phones, tablets and, I assume, the new Xbox too — aka Metro. The two corporations have very different approaches going on.

Show the damn console and do more than spend half the time talking about things they hope will be possible one day and they will beat sonys show.

Alan wake 2 or PGR5 will install win.

Some money hat deals Will definitely come into play but yeah Microsoft's trend has been mega casual for the past few years. ms fans have to accept that

wow ! so bunch of kinect stuff is more impressive than what Sony showed ? you will have a wonderful E3 guaranteed.

Wait, Sony brought it? I don't remember them showing any thing particularly impressive. I remember a lot of tech demos, SE showing an old tech demo I watched on youtube months ago and telling us to be excited for E3, Blizzard coming on stage to announce that coming to the PS4 would be... Diablo3, and a closer with some short Destiny footage.

8GB of GDDR5 was a bit of a surprise, and Killzone looked visually nice, but if that is what constitutes as "bringing it" for a 2 hour presentation, then I dread to think of what MS's conference will be like if they don't bring it.

I am not against motion controllers if they are done right.

Skyward Sword is my favorite Wii game partly thanks to the motion controllers.

The majority of people who are gamers do not know who Mark Cerny, Ballmer, or what GDDR5 RAM is. All they know is COD will look better and which machine will have it. MS has brand awareness in their sights.

yeah and people have to accept that MS invests heavily in the core gamer at the start of a generation and during the end starts focusing on casuals to sell more consoles.

Same thing will happen with the 720.

Yep. MS understands the style over substance dodge very well.

I thought you were serious given your post history

Yes, given the posts of mine you cherry-pick to backup your assertion that I hate Sony. Yeesh.

I liked the sony conference because I liked the controller, and I liked the specs. But sony didnt really 'bring it.' It'll be sad if MS cant at least match it, cause Im pretty sure sony has alot more for E3.

Marble Madness is nice and all.. but Mattrick developed Test Drive 1 & 2 which are legendary. I could also listen to Corrinne Yu talk about tech all day, there are some smart people at Microsoft.

It really depends on how they approach it. All the hardcore gamers are going to be staying up to watch the liveblogs/video streams, but from what we know they'll be pushing it as a multimedia console and talking about the deals they've made and why everyone should have on in their living room. That's going to piss off the gamers who are staying up to see what the next Xbox can do gaming wise, which may cause some momentary online backlash. It'll go over well in the press, though. Then again, they have to talk about it now and not at E3, as that is even more of a gaming show.

Either way it'll be really interesting.

These self-identified 'hardcore' gamers are guys addicted to Battlefield, Halo, and CoD. A group that MS has always catered to.

The other 'hardcore' gamer is the gaf version who plays anything and everything. I don't think MS has to worry about that fella.
