Microsoft hardware event set for October 6th

I don't, I want another SP just one that doesn't get hot and throttle the processor speed.

I thought skylake was fanless, anyway they'll probably fix the issue this time either way.

Alright, it was simply a suggestion.

The Skylake Core M CPUs in the Miix 700 and upcoming Dell XPS 12 is fanless, but so far it looks like the Surface Pro sticks to the Core i-series, which is always going to need a fan.

We'll see in three weeks.

Band 2 got me excited like, whoa.

My SP3 will be fine for a while.

My 1520 still works fine on W10m.

So that's only one device to upgrade out of this event. Unless the SP4 is baller as hell and works with my SP3 docking station (I think they said before that it would).

Wait, do people think they'd have to hold up the phone to the face or eyes, when they hear iris scanner for these phones?

Well that was my first idea indeed... I mean, even in Demolition Man they had to be a few centimeters away from the scanner. :P
That's the most common depiction in popular culture, so that's also what people not in the know (like me) would expect.

Thanks, I had no idea you could do iris scanning from that distance.
Minority Report, here we come. ;)

As I've said over the WP thread, I tried it during this past MWC.

It was freaking awesome.

I think I still prefer fingerprint readers, but I was shocked by how fast and precise it was.

Hopefully they finally fix the atrocious bugs of Win 10 for this Surface. I really doubt they'll get away with basic shit like sleep mode not working, styluses becoming unusable after sleep wake-up, and overheating + battery drain issues.
Yep. The Surface needs extreme help with Windows 10. When I click the Cortana icon to speak it takes 15 seconds for the mix to initialize. There's a ton of bugs that Windows 10 introduced to the Surface that need fixed asap.

As a Microsoft employee I'm unapologetically ecstatic to throw my money at a Surface Pro 4 and Band 2 despite not knowing any details about them which aren't rumors.

Bought a Band and Surface Pro 3 with my own money at full price when they each launched last year, and have used both of them every single day, day-in and day-out ever since.

The SP3 is by far the best computer I've ever used. It's my main workhorse PC in addition to being my Diablo 3 machine + laptop (I've never had a problem with "lappability").

The Band, while currently bulky and uncomfortable at first, has genuinely helped me improve. I love the built-in GPS which lets me run without my phone, the notifications tell me about texts/calls I'd otherwise miss frequently, and it integrates with MyFitnessPal perfectly. I love how I can go for a run or a hike and instantly those burned calories subtract from my food log for the day, increasing my calorie budget for that day.

Will buy all of this before it's even available with an employee discount.

Phones look pretty sharp. I may switch back from Android, since the only reason I moved to it was the dearth of decent Windows Phone hardware after the 1020.

I thought MS confiremd it's 940 not 950?

I hope we finally get premium Windows Phonws this time, TP aside (which only HTCm8 applied) we haven't had premium since the 928/925. I guess one could say the ICon as well.

I'm tired of all the post MS buy-out phones all being shit plastic with colors. I want a low high end or high high-end device. Upper mid-rage could work to if the material are good but then that wouldn't be much of a flagship. Look at the 640 wtf is that?

Microsoft has not confirmed a single detail about any new pieces of hardware being announced. It is literally all rumors and speculation (though lots of it probably with 100% accurate sources)

LOl at that gif throwing money at that shitty Dell latitude from 2010.

So the event is being streamed on xbone? Interesting.

At the very least they will show more of what win10 will bring to the console (unified open store please), and hopefully have a few new id@xbox titles to show.

I've got a Surface Pro 3 through work (8GB RAM, i7) that I have been extremely happy with. I'll be curious to see how they iterate with the SP4.

They could just be widening their audience. The same way Apple always streams their keynotes to the Apple TV. It doesn't mean it has to be a specific Xbox announcement.

I'm still happy with my 1020 and SP3 but I'm looking forward to learning more about the 950. I can see myself getting it shortly after release. I mainly want a high quality camera that is fast.

I feel the same way.

I love buying new products that aren't really tested yet (I bought the original $200 Rocksmith bundle on release on a promise that it would work and by god it did, I bought the Band, I have the original Surface Pro, etc.), and the Band has definite issues (contour to my wrist better this gen?), but there's so much goddamn potential in that device that I see that I will immediately plunk down for Band 2.

Unfortunately for my wallet, no matter how much I want SP4 (and WOW I really want SP3 already, 4 will crush me), I do have to save money. :)

Bet the 950 (if real) will be suave as well, I love my Icon. I've moved over to Moto X Pure this time over though, but I like devving for Android/WPhone so it might end up in my lap in the future...

Diablo 3 framerate is fine on SP3? I never tried it. Not sure why actually.

Yeah, but I would love to see more integration between their ecosystem, like receiving a call on your xbone, or notification for a text message and so on.

Xbox is a Windows device now, hadn't you heard? :P
Exactly, but they haven't talked much about what exactly win10 will bring to it, I mean, have we even saw universal apps running on xbone yet?

They could just be widening their audience. The same way Apple always streams their keynotes to the Apple TV. It doesn't mean it has to be a specific Xbox announcement.

Could very well be indeed.

i'm super interested in the SP4. Band, i guess, if they can make it not be as unreliable in its readings and not be has huge.

Its hard to get excited for their phones when their ecosystem isn't much better then it was 3 years ago.

Been thinking about replacing my old laptop soon, will likely go with a Surface Pro 4 depending on the price/specs.

I love my Band, but the build quality is severely lacking. I'm pretty lucky that the only problem I've had with it is the black on the inside essentially rubbing and ripping off. I've seen a lot worse. With that said, I'm going to wait it out for a full release and see if it's better.

I love the look of those Lumia's too, but I'm way too invested in Android's ecosystem (not to mention the barren land that is the Windows app store. It's gotten better with Windows 10, but it's still severely lacking.

core M would give you fanless and therefore quiet. Normal i3/5/7 would have to have fans.

I'd be up for a combination of both - maybe core M i3/i5, and then full skylake i5/i7 so you can choose power or quietness.

They ain't gonna do two sets of chassis. It's either Core m3/m5/m7, or Skylark Core U i3/i5/i7. I'm leaning toward Core M.

"Oh, it has a pencil like the iPad Pro?"

fix'd

Diablo 3 framerate is fine on SP3? I never tried it. Not sure why actually.

It isn't perfect since I need to turn resolution down (1280x720) and most of the settings, but I've played for ~10 hours on it and it's more than adequate. Just make sure you get a bluetooth / USB mouse or something though. It's unplayable with even the best trackpad in the world.

FWIW I'm playing at 1280x720 resolution and on the Core i5 version. Runs around 30-40fps maybe, but I haven't had Fraps running or anything.

Battery while playing also lasts longer than I expected - 2+ hours straight even with the brightness turned way up.

If SP4 is Core M, they'd better be 8/16GB of RAM. No more 4/8GB BS. Come on assholes, you are stuck with LDDR3. Don't be stingy!

Band 1 was underwhelming with that weird screen and bezel. Looking for a better design this time around.

Exactly, but they haven't talked much about what exactly win10 will bring to it, I mean, have we even saw universal apps running on xbone yet?
Yes actually, they showed a USA Today universal app at Build.

But yeah, they've been pretty much silent on it since Build other than it will be coming, at some point.

Even with its shortfalls, I wear my Band daily. I even tried an Apple Watch for 2 weeks and returned it to go back to my Band. Waiting eagerly to see what Band 2 offers!
