No way. I don't want a 12" Surface to be limited to Core M. I love the 12" of my Surface Pro 3, 14" would be way too big for me, and I just want a non-M Skylake CPU in it. Skylake Core M would be slower than the Core i5 in my current SP3 I think.

In an anandtech test they found the zenbook ux305 (lowest broadwell core m) to keep up well with an i5-4200u for day to day usage, as it almost never throttled due to heat. The skylake core m chips are supposed to be a decent step up from that too. A core m surface pro would still be decently fast I think.

The Samsung Gear Fit looks still better than the Band 2, which is really disappointing.

Hopefully they'll get it right next year.

I recently got a good deal on a 128gb Surface 3. Hope I don't regret it. Looking forward to the new band and phones.

I bought the 1st band. I only wanted it for the heart rate monitor and "MyFitnessPal" integration. Really like it. It's been beat up since I tend to nick things with it.

I really like it curious what the second generation Band brings.

Yeah Band being the only (is that right?) fitness band with built in GPS is a pretty big win for runners.

Or riding your bike. It tracks your route on a map with color coded markings to display speed during your biking session and also top speed and average mph and distance. It's pretty awesome.

Nice. I suppose the cheapest SP4 will be more than enough just for note taking in OneNote and annotating PDFs in DrawboardPDF then? That's my expected usage for the device, games/media/demanding desktop programs aren't much of a concern in my case.

Another thing - are all accessories compatible between SP3 and S3 (like the stylus, keyboard etc.)? I might need a smaller form device in the future as well, can I expect to buy the accessories for SP4 and then have all of them working with Surface 4?

Holy crap those Lumia 950/950XL renders look terrible. Why do they look so cheap?? Man what a let down was hoping to upgrade soon from my 930, have hated having it since day 1.

SP4 sounds amazing on the other hand.

Because they're full plastic phones, without a hint of "premium materials", like metal or glass. You don't see that very often on flagship phones these days.

Really? Because the Band 2 looks still fat and bulky to me.

The atom based surface 3 would be enough for that, so you'd be fine wih any of the SP4s :)

I think on the tested review they tried a surface pro 3 keyboard with the surface 3 (or the other way round, and it connected, but the size was wrong so you couldn't use it as a cover really. I'd actually like them to make normal, simple covers as some people will prefer to use it with a Bluetooth or other wireless keyboard.

I like the fact that the screen does not protrude from the band.

That is nice, indeed. But what about the fat part at the bottom? The Fit is 18 months old. I'm sure a slimmer and better design might be possible by now.

Either way, we obviously need to see real pictures of the Band 2, but the renders certainly didn't impress me. But what's much more important is that they hopefully improved the durability. The first generation seemed almost prototype-ish.

That band 2 looks pretty awesome. For that price, day one purchase for me. There are rumours that there might be a discounted bundle if you get the L950 along with it. Hopefully that's true.

Yeah, I would have to see about that bottom bulge in person and wear it to see if it was uncomfortable, but with a color screen of that size, there is likely to be bulk somewhere if longevity is wanted, perhaps that fat part is the battery? Or perhaps they realized that heart rates are better read from the underside of the wrist?

This does look nice though, perhaps MS should have went with a monochrome screen too, because I really could care less as long as it tells the time.

I had to wait too long. Ordered a iPhone 6s plus 64gb to replace my Lumia 920. I totally forgot about the devices announcements on October 6th but I'm fine with being guaranteed to have a prime selection of apps for any gadget or toy or service that has one.

I'll still be watching and hope the 950s phones impress.
That's a reasonable move. I hate to say I'm considering an Iphone. It is all about the apps. I love everything about the hardware camera, UI that windows offers but they can't fix the app situation. They need a larger user base but without the apps they can't get it. Its an impossible situation. All a windows phone fan can hope for is that devs will somehow gain interest one day and start porting over.

Any chance we get a Surface 4 at the event or is the 3 still too new?

I've been reading that there are versions of Skylake that won't be ready until Q1 2016.

Apparently, Surface Pro 3 only launched with an i5 option. I think it may be possible that MS releases some updated SP4s in Spring 2016 and drops a S4 at that time. Just speculation though. S3 was only released in May, so probably no update next month.

----

The renders (or is that a leak?) of Band 2 look better than the first, but it still looks pretty ugly to me.

Huh really, no Surface 4? I was almost banking on that happening.

Even saw tweets from people who could not wait until they were released from their NDA to talk about it.

I'd be sad if it doesnt show because I've been getting money ready to buy one.

There'll be a Pro 4, regular one was updated recently.

Intel's slides recently showed the skylake-U CPUs with intel HD GPUs should be out this year, but the similar models with Iris GPUs (with embedded ram) are 'TBD' and potentially 2016.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

They're talking about the Surface 4, not the Surface Pro 4. The Surface 3 was just released in May. The naming was confusing considering how long the Pro 3 had been out. The Pro 4 will definitely be there.

Rumored prices for the next two Lumias:

"Smartphone France reported recently that Microsoft’s new Lumia 950 and 950XL will be comparably priced to the iPhone 6s and the 6s+, possibly slightly cheaper, but still definitely priced as expensive premium phones. However, there will reportedly be a great value to the phone not offered by other flagships, as Smartphone France believes that the 950XL specifically will come bundled with €200 Euros worth of accessories. These accessories weren’t named in the article but the bundled accessories could be any number of the rumored add-ons expected to be announced on October 6th, which includes a dock to support the new Continuum feature of Windows 10 Mobile, a smart cover, and a stylus for the 950XL."

Premium plastic phones in 2015. This is so DOA.

Yeah... they better bundle some neat accesories like the stylus and make fucking sure there is a host of apps to put them to use like Samsung's Galaxy Note range.

Otherwise they may be the another nail in Windows Phone's coffin.

Surface Phone can't come soon enough.

Even Lumia Surface has a nice ring to it.

Really surprising that they have not leveraged the surface name yet... Just make a larger ZuneHD and put Win10 on it and sell it as a Surface Phone on all carriers to show oem's how to do it. Even if they keep the lumia brand for cheaper stuff.

The Surface feels like an awesome product because of the magnesium body, something you just can't get out of plastic. Microsoft should release phones with that material. Would be a shame if the new phone feels like a Samsung

I'll be looking for a $100 - $250 nicer fitness tracker this holiday season, so I may forgoe the Fitbit Surge or the Polar M400 for the Band 2 if it proves itself worthy.

Not really. Mobile phones were being developed at a different department than Surface, and Surface being the crown jewel of Microsoft's hardware efforts, I'm sure that many people woulnd't want to half ass it by using the Surface brand on a non-Surface developed product.

Now that the Surface guys are leading the development of new mobile devices, the fabled Surface phone can (and will most probably) happen.

The polycarbonate shells on the Lumia series are actually pretty durable and resistant to drops. There are a lot of people who do not like to use cases.

But I would love a surface phone creation l, and would pay $200-300 for one under my 2yr contract to have. Like with all my phones, I baby them with cases and screen protectorsS.

The way a phone looks is down on the list of things I really care about. I will have a case on it about 10 minutes after it comes out of the box. That said, these things are about as bland as you can get. At least you can add storage and can change batteries though.

My mom still uses my old Lumia 800, the polycarbonate body does feel better and more durable than the Galaxy S's I've held, but it's not what I want from a €600+ phone.

And yes I'm one of those people who doesn't use a case. I've only dropped phones while drunk on a bike, so I just keep it in my pocket now
never broke a phone by dropping, dat Nokia build quality

Yeah, I want a Surface phone variant too. I hope that happens some day. But I currently have a 920 and I don't use a case and frankly, cases take away from the phone's aesthetic regardless of what phone you have so I just roll the dice on not dropping it too much. The 920 is very durable, however.

My 920 got ran over by a Toyota and survived. The screen saver and the silicone case got trashed but the phone survived without a scratch.

I wonder if Band 2 uses a newer SOC, also super curious if it runs W10 IoT or not. That would be kinda awkward press if a second gen MS IoT device doesn't even run W10 kernel LOL

My 920, which was a replacement for my other 920 that broke, kinda messed up from the headphones and screen flicks occasionally. Now I want to buy a 3rd 920 since these new phones sound and look lame in comparison tbh.
920 is a beast.

I know right, who the hell is designing these in 2015? Last hope is a Surface metal variant. These look awful to me especially when you line them up next to Samsung and Apple..
