Microsoft has Closed the Activision Blizzard King Deal

JohnnyFootball

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I must've missed the part where Sony owns Square Enix or Capcom

Why? Do you not want more good games? Seems like a strange opinion, when every dev/publisher/1st party is good all gamers win
I certainly don't HOPE that happens, but based on the fact that MS still has all the same people in charge who got them into this mess with their studios, I can't say I have faith that those exact same people will be able to get them out.

I was told on Twitter/X that once this deal is certified done, that PlayStation instantly becomes #3 and that Xbox becomes #1

In all seriousness, I'm glad this is done. I'm so tired of these all of a sudden M&A "experts" STFU I've never seen so many ppl invested in M&A's before... they're boring as shit. We can all move on now, and hopefully, just play some games.

Give it six month and we will be in the next m&a thread.

I'm so tired of this consolidation crap, it's ruining all of entertainment. Disney eats up the very soul of out everything it touches, as does MS.

And that trailer felt like they wanted to be Disney, to imagine all their characters in some Marvelified multiverse. Gross.
Consolidation by shitty companys is great... you can see all the IPs from FOX that disney has so well used and what they have done to star wars ... great great great

You know Nintendo is going to let you down in the hardware front ... dont you ? ...

Nintendo never let me down on the hardware front, because I know exactly what to expect.

The switch 2 will be lucky to hit 1tf of peak performance but it will be over twice the power of the og switch and with nintendos genius art design games will look amazing. Then on the gameplay front....they will slay like they always do.

It's gonna be a banger.....I hope. Lol

Anyway, back on topic. Wherws all the Phil Chad photoshops?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Post ABK it will be much easier anyway. Nothing else comes close + now regulators know more about gaming industry.

That's fine, I doubt there will be another gaming related acquisition to the tune of $70 bn in the near future, but let's not forget that it did get scrutinized the shit out of. From numerous regulatory bodies across the world.

As long as any future acquisitions from any vendor are scrutinized appropriately as well, no one should have any objection to them going through, whether it's Nintendo buying EA, Sony buying T2 or Microsoft buying Sega.

Some regulators overreached and came up with nonsense (like CMA and FTC, who just demonstrated that they are incompetent) but by and large, it was just a big acquisition and if not for CMA's own framework where they can't retract their own bad decisions, this acquisition would be completed on time.

People ignoring that King cash injection. Literally a billion plus a year, how the fuck is that not good for their bottom line? Also turns out I was right in the other thread, it would get passed with modifications. Yay do I get my title?

Also, please haters feed me with your swelling tears. It is so good and I will eat every last drop up.

You are more than welcome to submit your resume to Microsoft outlining your methods of reparation for studio output.

There really are a lot of tears, salt and bitterness in this thread.

Fitting that this would happen on Friday 13th, a bad day for gamers everywhere.

I'm sorry it's a bad day for you but hardly a bad for Xbox gamers everywhere, It's a GREAT day for Xbox gamers.

cool story.

Cool story bro but consoles are a segment of the industry. Steam basically has the same games and even sells hardware who cater to the console people with the steamdeck. So yea cool story.

And why won't you go by profit? Does it destroy you bad point, ain't it? We had prove that Microsoft and Nintendo had bigger profits for some past year even before the avb merger.

One thing i would like to see happen in all this will prob never happen... but change battle passes to be more like Halo Infinite battle passes so that you can always go back later and work on old ones so you never really lose anything you purchase. i fucking HATE fomo crap. I never seem to have enough time to complete any one battle pass anymore. :/

They wish Playstation userbase was smaller so COD could skip it but as thing are they would lose a lot of money if they did and probably hurt/kill the franchise in the process

If the games are on Game Pass then they can be played by anyone with access to a web browser, regardless of the device. So yes, that does bring them to more people.
This is what they mean by play anywhere…. Not… “ we bought these companies to spend money on dev for rival platforms”

The size of ABK has set some unique precedents…. Ie. COD still has to be multiformat on consoles for the next ten years and cloud rights being sold to ubi. Aside from that….. they can do what they want with what they own. Especially in regards to exclusivity and that’s an expected given.

Personally I think it’s a good time for them to explore the catalogue with new ideas…. And bring back some ideas they cancelled. Like StarCraft ghost… maybe a souls -like set in the WoW universe. Lots of potential….. but will they realise the potential of what they have bought or keep the machine running as is? Or maybe do both? I would like to think they do both.

$70B is quite a bit more than any of these other “successful” examples

Certainly didn’t stop you from highlighting cheaper deals for Nokia, Danger and Skype.

I certainly don't HOPE that happens, but based on the fact that MS still has all the same people in charge who got them into this mess with their studios, I can't say I have faith that those exact same people will be able to get them out.

Actually, the ‘mess’ with a handful of their games came from being hands off.
If Activision largely operates independently, why would you assume they’d struggle post acquisition?
Most of their studios seems to be running just fine.

how long will Call of Duty be multiplatform?

My guess is that PS5 gets the boot already next year.

Why do you people make posts like these when you know there’s a signed, legally binding agreement for COD to remain on PlayStation for at least the next 10 years?

So some of the publisher were behind the aquisitions because they have mote breathing room on Playstation now? But cod stays on ps5 how does this change?
Just pointing out they are ALL ok with being acquired if it ever comes to it……. these AAA games are not getting any cheaper to make and most are not meeting their projected profit targets….. that leads to….. things happening.

Precedence has been set and therefore similar deals going forward won't be scrutinized to the same degree.

This is what happens under common law
So the fact it took 20 months to look at you don’t think that’s scrutiny?

If the president has been set then it will take 20 months to get these deals done going forward with every government looking at them

Sad day for gaming. Really shocked that anyone could see this as a good thing. Oh well, lets see how well consolidation goes for this once great hobby I had.
I tell you what….. if aonyvor Nintendo ever bgappen to afford a publisher….. and you guys have this same energy….. Ill agree.

Otherwise I’m inclined to believe that people like it when their console manufacturer of choice buys a publisher.

People just don’t like it when it don’t go their way, is all. Typical, behaviour really.

Personally I say spare the tears and feelings. It’s all business. Gamers are too emotional over things that don’t really concern them. Just chill and play the game you love.
