This is really cool.

This is even cooler than my initial impressions. Great interviews. I love it.

Pretty cool they acknowledged their history good and bad. I remember when they tried to purchase Nintendo back in the earlier 2000's.

It's a pretty cool concept. It's nice to see Microsoft acknowledging the Red Ring and their other stumbles along with their accomplishments.

Lol why would you acknowledge this? This makes zero sense from a business stand point.

Internally you learn and do better, of course. But to bring it back out to show off to everyone is a bizarre move.

Same thing with 343 and Craig. I just don't understand trying to embrace your embarrassments, because in case you didn't know the internet and the world attention span is like 5 seconds long these days. If you just ignore it most people will never think about it again. Bringing it back up just makes you a target and gives them ammo at the same time.

Edit: actually it being a museum, it makes sense

This is really interesting, says I've played over 1400 Xbox games! Also gives you the first time you logged in on each console.

Interesting. I'll take a look.

I've been related to the Xbox brand from the beginning but somehow I don't feel like it has the spot in my memory as Nintendo/Sony. It might be that I was older when Xbox came out.

P.S. Someone likes Destiny 2...

You get your own personal museum.that is stinking awesome.

I hate myself for playing so much modern warfare....I wish it was Mass Effect.

because its cool to see companies own a failure as part of their history. I like it.

Establish trust and a more transparent relationship with consumers. It makes sense. The upcoming documentary will also smartly make their internal staff into known personalities.

PS did this well last gen and has stopped doing it now, and you see the consumer hostility grow. It is superficial, but I'd be lying if I said it doesn't work.

I thought the thread titles said mausoleum and I was like fuck what happened since last night! Everything seemed to be going well before I turned the computer off.

My Xbox Slim died Red Ring of Death without having a light ring. Tragic thing.....still have not finished Metal Gear Rising Revengence.

So you want whatever good that remains among corporations to go down. Honestly, after Xbone Era Dumbness and Corporatocracy, I am glad they are returning to being levelheaded. Now I have gamepass. Its progress. There are guys like me who lost their money alright....Sony did the same thing when their servers went down and that actually kept them in my good graces in those days.

I admire them for acknowledging their mistake. Something that is desperately needed these days in all companies. When Capcom recently botched Resident Evil Village on PC they should have also apologized.

They made a big push for cooling after the 360

They made a big push for cooling after the 360
they should have just focused on the positives of their cooling system now, and how great it is, and skip over the part where all the negative stuff happen.

it doesnt make business sense to me to remind people about one of your biggest failures and embarrassments. i imagine there are a lot of young people who didnt even know of RROD until they saw this. and the rest of us who were around at that time probably dont think about it much anymore, until, oh wait thats right thanks for reminding me MS!

lol wtf? why? dont get it

to be clear: this thing there doing is pretty neat, im looking forward to checking it out, so im sorry im really not trying to poo poo on the whole thing. i just dont see any monetary value in rehashing the RROD debacle.

Damn, I am a Xbox player from the OG days too. Had to make different accounts throughout the years. I wonder if there is a way to merge them to my current one, I see them on the gamertag website?

why I cant access to my museum? It said I need to play more games to discover, but I got 60k gamerscore(while only owned Xbox360)

not surprised. customs in halo 3 is still one of my favorite playground in video games. really looking forward to infinite's forge mode.

"Xbox Series X its the most powerful device we've ever made and we're really focused to continue to make sure there is no power greater than X as we think about the future" Aaron Greenberg in the Series X section of the museum.

Claiming the power crown for the future, does this mean always being a teraflop or two above Playstation?

Really liking the mini docs in this. There is one that shows old dashboard designs ( pre og release ) and gamertags of the designers I assume, pretty cool.

This is kinda neat and they should have also created something natively to go through on the console itself. They should also start doing what Sony has with the Astro titles. Astro's Playroom was a pretty good way to go through PlayStation's history in a game like manner. Regardless, this is a nice way to look back at your history with Xbox as well.

RRoD is to Xbox what the BSoD is to their PC platform.

You're right in that it feels like self loathing a bit, but I do think it's better than white washing it.

They were not at fault anyway, solder had changed lots of machines were having such problems at that time (apple, nvidia, etc), just not as widespread and reported as their box with a top of the line GPU

it's kinda stupid…. but at the same time.. it doesnt matter.

I haven't experienced red ring from on my star wars xbox 360. But then again, Ive only used it for kinect games. So I cant really speak on how bad the experience was. On PS3 I didnt have time to play games online. I was too busy. So I cant speak on THAT experience either. All I remember was free stuff, so I was happy Sony got hacked. Ahh the good old days.

I don't even know what BSoD is. And that's kind of my point. Why remind everyone? Or worse, inform people who didn't even know about it?

And then there is PlayStation YLoD (which I actually got, yet never got a RRoD), you don't hear them going out there and trying to remind everyone about it, but it was definitely a thing that a lot of people experienced.

Oh well, I feel like I'm making this more big of a deal than it needs to be lol, it just struck me as a bit odd, that's all. And I guess it's kinda neat that they survived that, so maybe that is the overall point they are trying to make, about the hard times the platform has been through but still survived…?

Pretty neat idea either way tho. I wish I still had my gamer tag from my OG Xbox, I'd love to see more stats from those days (maybe I'll try to type in my old GT and see if I can remember the password 🤔)

I went in with a "meh" but stayed for longer than expected.. Found a lot of information I haven't seen before, some of the design sketches were hilarious.

I thought it was nice and "honest" to see them bring it up. The RROD issue no doubt had a important positive impact on their projects and designs going forward. Seeing it in the museum is also a sort of refreshing counter to the usual unicorns and rainbow pr la-la land.

It's a big part of the console's history. It'd be like making a retrospective on the PlayStation and not mentioning how people had to place their launch units upside down to correctly read CDs. The recent article about the GamCube's anniversary mentioned how it was a purple console with a handle. Every console has stupid parts of their history that shouldn't be overlooked or forgotten.

It happened. They did the right thing, fixing the problem with billions of dollars of warranty service and product redesigns.

They are patting themselves on the back for their commitment, which is a reminder and another win for their brand or business.
