Microsoft is increasing the prices of Xbox Series consoles in the US... again.

It is interesting even before the tariffs for 4 years the consoles never dropped in price either. I'm pretty sure past gens saw cuts within 4 years of launch.

I see Twitter blaming it all on Trump, I honestly don't follow much of that stuff. How about it's a combination of that and just pure greed by a mega corporation? Absolute insanity.
Microsoft specifically made a large price hike before this one to remove all their HW subsidies and start becoming cash positive on every console sold.

Yes Trump is likely the reason for this upcoming one, but not the last one because that happened before Tariffs actually became a reality.

Wouldn't it be smarter to discontinue them? At these prices, no one will buy them anymore. Or are Xboxes no longer being produced?

They don't seem to be producing many anymore and most retailers are either sold out or just don't have them anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a way to drop the XSX and the price increase is mostly focusing on enthusiasts or collectors, they certainly aren't worried about the general public anymore and haven't been for awhile. It's such a bad move and all they're doing is pushing new potential customers away when their potential customer base is already so low. If they were smart they would have dropped the price now that Sony raised theirs but even so there isn't much stock of these things and it's a weird thing to do going into the holiday season unless they plan on announcing something soon.

Supposedly Microsoft cares so much for their gamers and so, why not just raise the prices on already overpriced consoles so ALL their fans who have yet to purchase their consoles will surely buy them now?! Always putting the customer 1st is Microsoft. But hey, they at least give you "free" games, right???

If the platform isn't doing well then every customer who comes in and buys games becomes a future problem for Microsoft.

This is a way of winding down Xbox as a mainstream mass-market console brand in preparation for an upcoming pivot.

It's mostly due to Tariffs.

Companies are greedy but not this stupid, they know the price increases will hurt them.

The fact that they did this twice is definitely because of the tariff situation because this move makes zero sense if thats not the case.

Well, from here on out I'm going to knock on wood daily that my XSX doesn't die on me. Because even though I don't live in the USA i am sure they'll find a way to fuck it up for us in Europe just as much. It's never US only.

LOL that's how much I paid someone on eBay during 2020,

This is the first time seeing price appreciation since the 3DS when it comes to games systems.

My theory is in 2026 xbox will release some of the best games ever to grace the xbox eco system.

I'll ask once again: how can a new console generation be launched when they can't even stabilize the prices of the current one?

This is a unique move in all the decades of this industry.

Im a 7th gen Xbox fan. No idea what this company wearing its skin is.

Holy shit that 2 TB Series X price 🤣🤣🤣

Actually all those prices are hot garbage 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Horrible generation of consoles tho when it comes to these price increases; all the more reason I'm assured of switching to PC going forward (and a Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives).

I think it will be the longest ever because of the slow start due to the pandemic and how bad the economy. Plus GTA 6 will move more consoles next year.

GTA6 will absolutely not be the savior some of you are hyping it up to be. The game itself is likely gonna sell gangbusters, but I don't see new console sales peaks being hit when it drops. Far from it, in fact.

Sony and Microsoft have been selling consoles on the better part going on two years now off of GTA6 hype, since the first trailer dropped in late 2023. Everyone knows it's coming, and the price increases have probably been incentivizing people to buy sooner vs. wait closer to GTA6's launch, if anything. Tho the prices themselves aren't doing the consoles any favors, especially in Xbox's case.

lol straight up begging at this point.

i find it hilarious that the billionares have gotten 2x more richer in the last 8 years or so and worth almost $8 trillion. MS is well on its way to becoming a 4 trillion company but these guys are acting like beggars. asking for $50 more from people who literally cant afford groceries.

They have to keep growing. It's bound to burst, though.

I got mine for free. Came wirh Verizon internet and $50 card for Xbox store. This was in 2023.

Why don't they just eat the price and sell at a loss or reduced profit? Sony did this for like $300 per unit on the ps3. Make it up in games... Oh wait...
Game pass is why. They don't have large volume in game sales
Lol... Gamepass was a mistake!

Jesus Christ, not only they were offering GamePass for 1$ and in Pringle cans, they also were giving away consoles with subscriptions?

I don't know why this thread is so active

They can price these at 10K dollars.....

Price doesn't matter when demand is already at ZERO

It's a theoretical number at this point

My guess is that MS knows that this gen is lost and damage control is from now on their only way, till the next gen.
Including to lower the losings.
Why wasting billions of dollar in the fifth year, to sell a few more consoles, instead to "save the money" for the next gen?

How on earth it cost more than the already super expensive PS5 Pro? Like seriously, how?

There is no way in hell the parts of that 5 years old garbage cost anywhere close to this.
If I had to guess, Microsoft is kind of creating its own self-fulfilling prophecy. Their hardware barely sells, so they probably don't get great bulk component deals, so their consoles cost more to produce leading to higher prices which leads to.......even less sales. At this point they're better off pulling the plug on hardware this gen, fire-sale remaining inventory and accelerate the launch of their rumored PC/console hybrid to 2026. There's absolutely no logical reason why anyone currently 'in the market' for a Xbox series console should buy one now( and I'd say that was true after the first hike a few months ago, but most certainly now).

Remember that interview where Phil Spencer said they lost the worst generation against PS4?

They've lost this generation twice as bad.

If there is a next generation Xbox it's basically DOA now

I was able to get an Xbox Series S & an Xbox Series X for $250 on eBay because people are selling the consoles for parts due to broken HDMI ports.

...and now this. lol
