Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Chalk this up to wild speculation, but this might interest some people.

Recently Rare hired this guy, he works as environment artist for them now. Usually to get hired an artist has to do a "art test" in a given time by the company.

In his portfolio, he posted a test:

Notice:

A) "Art Test for an AAA games company"
B) He has not worked for any large company, he just finished school.
C) Could be for a freelance job, but he has noted where he has done it (like art test for Splash Damage)

I have no clue what he could be doing lol

Perrier is a French mineral water. It's for Ubisoft.

If the demo looks a lot better than what was shown at Sony's event then I will start to believe him, but I doubt it.

Would such a thing be possible without them being target renders or video demos similar to what Sony did at E3 '05?

This usually isn't Microsoft' modus operandi. They've nearly always shown in game footage, warts and all.

I don't see them messing with CGI. I think they will be pretty bullish about showing actual games and not just promises of what games could be like.

Unless 720 coming holiday 2014,if not they must have playable demo at E3

This is what I was thinking. We're all assuming they will launch this year, so to not show actual playable demos seems incredibly unlikely.

Indeed. Microsoft rarely show CGI. They've consistently had playable demos for any games releasing that year or early the following year.

I'm putting too much thought and effort into this though, it's clear he was trolling/bullshitting.

I think some deals are obviously dev inspired like Gears for example where the game makers clearly wanted to work on 360, or Hideo releasing MGS4 only on PS3. Then you have more obvious money hatting moves like GTA releasing first for half a year on 360 or COD DLC releasing first, but again, this was likely dev driven because of Live/360 architecture.

Destiny having exclusive PS4 content really doesn't bother anyone who will only own a specific platform, and I think as long as exclusivity stays within that realm, or a developer does a bit of PR and clearly identifies there desire/inspiration with a specific company, you won't get so much backlash and distaste from fans.

Having said that, I'm just a bit biased towards MS because of there relatively newness into the industry and perhaps because they haven't changed the game up for me personally as Nintendo or Sony did. I think when certain companies have reputations, it also follows them. MS=$$ whores Sony=Arrogant copiers Nintendo=Humble Innovators

These types of reps throw on more bias to each company, so there industry deals are looked at under those artificial veils. So far though, I'm not too interested in next box based on there first part stuff or there last few years on the market. Will likely get WiiU after it's first price-drop, finish up my PS3 stuff, then PS4 early next year. MS has some momentum to get back IMO, have to come hard with first party/exclusive stuff I think.

So far you're noT interested in something that does not exist? Who would have thought

New IP!?

Bad idea. They should just cut their losses and divert those resources to making an deeper impact in Europe, South America, India, Middle East, etc.

Japan is dead end for Microsoft. Sooner they realise this, the better.

They can't drop japan, if they do Japanese devs won't make games for their console. They will miss out on a lot of big exclusives.

I bet they're working on that too or some sort of pack-in.
The timeline indicates they're moving on...
The rumors indicate they're moving on...
The recent hires indicate their moving on...
Big Park taking over the second game indicates they're moving on...

I see nothing indicating Rare is making Kinect Sports 3.

Possibly.

Phil Spencer's twitter comment about lessons learned from forcing Rare to produce certain [Kinect] projects didn't work out, and the presumption is MS may be willing to allow them some freedom this gen.

I am sure many will laugh, but the only exclusive that would get me excited is seeing Fable 4 with a return to it's roots and expanded upon. But after the likes of Fable: The Journey, I can't say I see that happening. Even so, Albion is still a charming, funny and magical place to chill in and I have always loved the series for those reasons alone.

Yes, the gameplay has gotten progressively more shallow and watered down, but even that does not ruin how much I love exploring and having fun in the world. I like different games for different reasons, and despite it's shortcomings, Fable has still managed to provide me with more enjoyment than any of Microsoft's exclusives. I just hate the thought of seeing it ruined even more by having Kinect elements shoehorned in.

Back on topic of new IPs, here is to hoping for something that blows us all away. Give me a reason to want your next console, MS.
