Microsoft: Next Xbox will work even when your Internet doesn’t

Yes because leaking it makes more sense then them just godamn saying it.

Seriously people.

It does because making a press release responding to a rumor would be silly. They haven't even announced any features so how would it look if they officially responded to a device that they haven't even provided details on? By "reiterating a policy" in an internal email that happens to leak they serve the same purpose for the people that care

Seriously people.

They won't say anything officially for another 2 weeks. It'll be nice, because hopefully we'll be done with the Tales From My Ass series of posts.

Then why were Peter Moore, Reggie, Iwata, Miyamoto, and Kaz not imeddiately fired after making their companies look bad?

Wow, you might want to step away from the keyboard and get some air.

FYI, they won't.

Neither will Sony.

If you don't want heavy entertainment features
in your gaming console then the best system to get out of the three is the Wii U.

Also great way to miss out on big AAA titles.

That's why it's best to just buy them all ;)

The firing of Adam Orth pretty much confirmed the rumor of durnago being always online for me. It is going to take an official announcement from MS to make me think differently.

Oh, for fuck's sake. Guy making a giant prick out of himself confirms he is a giant prick and nothing else.

"Haha really"

So you're saying you called GAF = Sonyland? People got banned for BS like that.

No, what I said was that the "legitimate complaints" about the Durango were MOSTLY from Sony fanboys. I didn't say that ALL of GAF is Sonyland. Stop making shit up.

And if this wasn't clear, later on I acknowledged that there were people with actual concerns regarding the Durango, including Xbox fans too. But those with "legitimate complaints" (I put legitimate complaints in quotes subtly suggest that a lot of those concerns were not genuine) pretty much just want the Xbox to fail.

It's being proven in this thread.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Not to anyone.

Why are you taking this so personally?

Uhh, if anything, doesn't this confirm that the "legitimate concerns" were actually very real and that Microsoft is trying to react accordingly (assuming it is, in fact, legit)? Look at the language they use in that email. It talks about user expectations and how they SHOULD respond to those expectations. That indicates a change in policy, a new set of instructions, or some sort of clarifying instructions to make sure that the development team is on the same wavelength with corporate (and vice versa).

Confirm a change in policy? why not a "missunderstood" about Always on/Always connected?

I am hyped about the HTPC capabilities on next Xbox, people should know what are gaining if Durango really is "THE" HTPC.

I would like to open a thread about it, but my english is too bad xD

It will be a closed "HTPC" whose features are decided by the cable companies and if you live outside of the US (and maybe UK) the technology will probably be mostly useless.

I mean if you'd like to vouch for a site feel free. Some of us don't hang around the internet enough to understand the reliability of any given website.

Perhaps a brief breakdown of their credibility for those who don't know? It's not exactly unreasonable.

You don't need a breakdown, just go to the website. Their stuff is really well written and extremely thorough, especially their reviews. They have posted on the same old rumors we've all heard before, but they aren't the kind of website that would start a rumor based on something paper thin, and that story is written pretty confidently.

I think its more likely the next bad news will PSN will go the way of Xbox Live, but that's a discussion for another thread.

Sony openly said that the console will work offline and will play used games.

Then danced around the topic of free online multiplayer.

LIVE brings in oodles of cash, they would be stupid to not and try to get a piece of it.

The easy answer is free online with a heavy Gakkai focus for PS+ members but it does not sound like thier "world's fastest gaming network" will be up and kicking 100% at launch. So what will they do to entice people to sign up for their online services?

When I said "HTPC" I'm not talking about cable TV player, I mean a HTPC dream machine (I guess you know the HTPC software/hardware). Even if HDMI-in is real, I don't care about cable companies because I will connect my own Tv signal.

Doesn't necessarily instill confidence. I half-expected a lot of leaks in the past that have been spot on. To me, now, it doesn't seem like it's any more reliable than something like Kotaku. Oh well, May 21st is just around the corner and it's nice to see a 'leak' dispelling this.

Bring on the games!

I never believed this rumor, I'm sure Microsoft never even CONSIDERED making the NextBox Online Only.

Now watch on the 21st when Microsoft shows that they AREN'T 6 months behind, and they were never scrambling over the PS4 reveal. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if we were wrong the whole time and Microsoft has a trumph card themselves (like 8GBs GDDR5 RAM)

I value real actions taken by corporations over questionable rumors.

Even though I'm in the camp of believing rumors from credible sources (that includes Edge, Verge, Thurotte and ARS) Orth could've been punished or encouraged to leave for damaging Microsoft's reputation with customers.

There's simply too much baggage in the way he discussed the matter on a public venue with credentials to back up his position of authority.

Ha ha, seeing these reactions is what I find so fun about this place, I can't wait for E3.
Yeah, but this E3 launch time feels way more stupid than the runup to X360/PS3/Wii. I blame the influx of bad posters that have been bringing down the collective IQ of NeoGAF.

Alright...time for a a RAM thread.

Offline function is a good thing. Makes me hate the console 100% less. Now I will see what MS has to offer.

Wow, it really is a the start of a new gen. This thread and a lot of it's posts are so telling. *giggle*

We should make new Console Fanboy jacket threads, so people can just come out in the open about their oh-so-obvious loves.

I doubt they were ever serious about being literally always online, and are only responding because of the persistent negative rumours. It'd be a deal breaker for too many.

I'm already wearing the matching hat.
