Microsoft no longer offers a $1 Game Pass trial

They have funds to recover plus don't want people playing Diablo IV for a $1

Super Freak Flirting GIF by Rick James
Seeing as Diablo 4 is not coming to GamePass at launch, no issue there.

Closing the Gold to Game Pass Ultimate loophole was inevitable. Microsoft may be filthy rich but there was no way they'd keep letting people stack 3 years of GPU for less than half the retail cost.

This is about the $1 trials for new accounts.

Gold > GPU conversion is not effected.

How? That went? In my case, it was significantly more expensive. Still cheaper than normal, but not nearly as cheap.
For me, it's incremental cost as I always buy gold for $60 cdn.

The first 3 years were $1 for GP. LOad in 3 years of gold and then pay $1 for GP and it converts to 3 years of GO. Then when I renewed for 3 more years of gold in 2022, I added 1 month GP and it converts to 3 years.

Regular price of GP Ultimate in Canada is $17 or $18/month.

Well I wanted to use it last week, but then again, I think bying 3 years of Gold + the money for the upgrade ends up more expensive then just buying a month of gold when I really want to play a lot of Xbox, because I hardly ever turn the XSX on. I usually play PS5 most of the time, and I have troubles finishing my backlog/playing all PSN extra games I'd like to play. There's just not enough time to play everything. So I think whenever I'm in the mood or whenever my XSX can really convince me to use it over the period of an entire month, I'll just buy a Gamepass for one month and that's it. Last time I bought a one month gamepass, played hi-fi rush for about two hours and never touched the XSX again in that mlnth. That's money thrown outnof the window…

By the sounds of it, you'd save a lot more money if you sold your Series X. If you barely touch it, just sell it.

If you barely touch your Series X, why would you buy 3 years of Gold/Game Pass for it? Honestly it sounds like you don't even want it, why not sell it and buy one down the road (or a Series S) if something you want to play comes out on it. I've barely touched my PS5 but I know once Spider Man comes out I'll be on it nonstop. But it sounds like you have an Xbox just to have one. I think the Xbox will be awesome this gen but if you don't use it there's no reason to keep it, there will be a pro version and a cheaper revision some time this gen almost certainly, if you don't use it there's no reason to keep it "just because" (if I'm wrong on my assumption let me know, just seems like you'd rather not have it)

It is just the start. After the deal let's what happens with price.

They're going to increase it this year, for sure. Phil had already said that. They're going to increase, wait a bit for things to die down, and then start marketing all the day 1 game pass games for 2023 and hope people forget or justify it "uhhh yeah it's more but I'm still saving money - does Sony have $70 games included on DAY 1?!?!?!"

This isn't good for gamers.

The (at best) 150€ I'd get from selling my XSX and rebuying a XSS isn't worth the 4k downgrade. I have all my consoles connected to a 77" OLED and I just don't like owning the less powerful console. Besides, I like having all the options of playing games eventually, selling a console always hurts my collectors heart a little bit. I bought the XSX before I had the chance to grab a PS5, that's probably also a reason why I own one. And my setup looks fantastic with all three consoles under my TV. Some things you just own because you want to, not necessarily because you need to you know?

The price increase was expected.
MS added EA play to the service and has xcloud on top of it.

In comparison, Sony service is at 18$. The only good thing they have is the yearly plan. But downside is no EA play and PC side.

For sure, I wasn't hating just seemed like you kind of didnt want it, but I stand corrected

I don't plan to renew when my sub expires in May. I only ever really did it because I could get it so cheap for so long. Now, I just don't really use the service enough. I'm one of those crazy people who likes to own my media, and get physical when I can. Game pass also drove me nuts, because you can't put games on game pass in the "backlog" of your mind, because they get removed before you get to them. So yeah, just gonna stick to buying.

Gold > GPU conversion all the way baby.

You can convert 3 years of Gold to GPU, the only difference is instead of $1 you pay $14.99 for the conversion.

Just want to confirm: if I buy three of these and redeem them (stack them) on my Xbox profile, I only have to pay $14.99 to convert my entire 3 year Gold subscription to Game Pass Ultimate?

3 x $60 (XBL Gold) + $14.99 (conversion fee) = $195 for 3 years of Game Pass Ultimate. Correct?

Correct.

But you can make it even cheaper if you use VPN to get a different regions XBL.

I wrote this for another topic a while ago but all the steps should still work to the best of my knowledge.

Right now, CDKeys has 12 month Gold for $32 only, from the Turkey region.

1. Purchase [cdkeys.com] 12-Month Xbox Live Gold Membership (Turkey - Email Delivery).
2. Create [windscribe.com] Free Account on Windscribe VPN and Download App or Chrome Extension [windscribe.com].
3. Connect to Turkey on Windscribe VPN or using your own VPN service/app.
4. Redeem [microsoft.com] your Xbox Live Gold code(s) without agreeing to recurring billing.
You can stack up to three years of Xbox Live Gold.
5. Disconnect VPN.
6. Join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate [xbox.com] by purchasing your first month for $1 ($14.99 if you joined Game Pass before for $1).
Don't enable auto renewal when asked.
When you're redeeming the Gold, you *MAY* get asked about getting an extra bonus month of Gold.
DENY THAT.
The reason is that it will fuck up the 36 month conversion, you can stack a max of 36 months.

I just use my reward points for monthly gamepass 🤷

You can make em back each month by doing "dailies" which takes a few mins a day.
Yeah, me too. I hope they don't take that away since the point conversion rate is slightly better for Game Pass than it is for gift cards. I need to get enough for 6months more and I'm good for 3 years.

Awesome, thanks.

I'm good till October 2024. But I don't mind paying full price then. I've spent less this generation than I did in the 80's on my ZX Spectrum. Even without taking inflation into account.
Cheers! Microsoft :messenger_fistbump:

I'm paid up to mid 2024 using the conversion method so .. lots of chilling happening

I converted a Gold sub to Game Pass Ultimate yesterday, for those asking if that is still possible.

Stopping the 1$ trial is not the same as pulling the conversion method, you just have to pay a month to a convert it now, or grab a 7 day code off somewhere like Gamivo, Eneba, etc, etc.

When they stop the conversation trick, THAT will be the real kick in the balls.

Yes, the conversion trick is the big one, and they will have to eventually pull that one too.

Right, no big deal.

Finding deals on Gold gift cards is how I've been doing it, or one can also go the Microsoft rewards way but I think that only makes sense if you are in the US or UK

Yeah they literally had this promo for what, like 3-4 years now? Eventually it was going to end. And yeah you need to learn, whenever Xbox makes a decision, it's always the wrong one, and Sony's always the right one, even if they're the same decision
Good lord could you people be more sensitive?

It was never gonna last forever. They will probably change rewards too eventually because at the moment it's really easy to get enough points to have gamepass for free continuously.

This is how it goes with ALL subscription services. At first they make it a great deal and then once then have enough subscribers they raise their prices.
Only thing consumers can do is leave when this shit happens. Cancel subscriptions until prices go down again.

I imagine that sub count they brag about is going to drop a lot.
This. Most people I know just kept buying second-hand keys that you could redeem every month for a 1$ trial, cancel, and then re-subscribe again using another key after a month. There was no limit on how many times you could redeem those.

I imagine most of them are just gonna bail on GP now.

Where did you see a price increase?
