Best PR response I can think of realizing the PS4 is more powerful
The specs really would not matter if the two consoles were priced the same but, they are not. Microsoft's problems are they did not go far enough with the multimedia box and they have not shown so far why the kinect is worth being packed in with the console. Sure it is nice that it integrates with live tv with hdmi passthrough but, it would have been better if the box was actually a cable box or iptv box and the customer would not have to have a separate box to take advantage of the live tv integration.
Why is kinect so important? what makes it so special that it has to be packed in with the xbox one thus raising the price of the system? Those are the questions Microsoft should be answering not questions about specs. When the Wii took off for Nintendo they had a tangible example of why the wiimote was special and why they were going the direction they were going. Microsoft continues to mess up on this key point and it may very well be the xbox one's downfall unless they release a later sku that does not have kinect packed in and cut the price.
Microsoft should just lower the price of the XBone to $350 considering how weak it is.
I've already bought a PS4, I think the price difference is significant, and pretty much guarantees sony has this gen all locked up, but I definitely disagree that Microsoft hasn't shown me that Kinect is worth being bundled with the system. Sure, there's no killer app games that use it, and there may never be, but I like the thought of having it for the amazing integration that it has with the entire system. It isn't just about Skype and talking to change television channels. It's all the little things that it does, automatically signing me in, automatically setting proper button configurations for the right player, launching games and different things on the console instantly. I don't need to rehash it all, but I'm really excited to just own and use the new Kinect with my console.
If I didn't think it was worth it and an added value, I certainly wouldn't buy an xbox one for $500+. I'd just wait for the eventual price drop.
Yea, weak enough to do ryse and forza 5 at launch.

Round and round we go, where we stop nobody knows
He means weak when compared to $400 PS4.
Somehow I don't think major shareholders would like that very much.
Do major shareholders play video games?
In summary:
Microsoft: "Nuh uh!"
You missed the point where I said that cost was the issue and that the XB1 needed to be priced at $350. That would be $50 less than the PS4.
I was simply responding to the tendency to downplay everything MS has done for the XB1. The Kinect is a nice piece of hardware. Skype will be a selling point for some. Integration with live TV has to be put on the plus side if you are counting positives and negatives. Give MS the credit they are do. The system will do, yield issues aside, what they set out to do. If you looked at that XB1 without looking at the price, you'd have to say it was a nice product. It is the price that is tripping it up.
Which is as good as admitting it.
If it's false you nip it in the bud, and give your reasons why.
If it's true, but negative for you, you don't acknowledge it and try to divert the conversation onto other things, a la 'did you see Ryse on our near-final console'.
You know I have to

I have a gut feeling PS4 is going to outsell them by a large amount, but to keep the margins close they only need to sell 800K for every million PS4 Sony sells to bring in the same revenue. With all the changes at MS profitability in the Xbox division is becoming important.
Here is the interesting thing though. Sony has kind of tip there hand on the marketing angle they are going with toward launch at Gamescon, their press event in Japan on Monday, and Jack Tretton's interview on Fox New. For the next 2 months they plan to let the world know that "PS4 is the most powerful games console". So therefore MS, going the have to convince folks that all those extra features they like to talk about are worth a $100 more than a graphically more powerful system.
If MS was to drop the price to $350 (which I would love) it would be an admission that they believe their system isn't capable of producing comparable quality games. Which they don't believe based on their statements made by Albert and others. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that $500 price point is very important them or else they would have 180ed on that too. In other words, blast processing. Specs don't matter.
sounds like ps3 defense in the early days. microsoft should have not responded, the moment it did, it became 'bigger' news.
Sony are going to look fucking stupid when I download all that free extra RAM as part of the exciting services that only Xbox Live can provide.

it sounds like MS's defense to the PS3 in the early days. with fewer charts
seems to me like they're saying: "Yes PS4 is more powerful, but our system allows us to do really cool things".
Which is just fine with me. Now I wanna see Kincet 2.0 games.
That's all yoy really can say i dont blame them. 3rd party might be a wash but first party?
Naughty Dog debut on ps4?

Reads like "10 years ago when we wanted specs to matter, they did. But not now. Nuh uhh. Specs mean nothing."
I'm scared what Stig's team will do at SONY's Santa Monica Studios. That's all yoy really can say i dont blame them. 3rd party might be a wash but first party?

What are they supposed to say?
That the infinite power of the cloud renders all petty hardware comparisons meaningless becauseWhat are they supposed to say?
