Microsoft Studios (& Partners) Current and Future Landscape

Spencer feeling good about 1st party this year. From twitter.

New IP? Damn this wait is going to be hard. Not sure if thread worthy, given the vagueness.

New IP could be some arcade game. Spencer can't hype for shit.

Looks like State Of Decay 2 will have farming as one of the new features. Also, Undead Labs will be doing weekly updates about the game on their website. Those will contain new concept art every week too.

Here is the one for this week

So it'll be like Stardew Valley with zombies? Because that sounds *awesome*!

I wouldn't mind Blinx but I really liked the rumored idea of Insomniac doing Conker.

Given Sunset Overdrive/Ratchet & Clank's style and humor it seems right in their wheel house.

I seriously doubt Insomniac are doing a Conker game, unless you have a link? Most of the studio is working on Spider-Man and I would assume they've got another Ratchet game cooking too.

I'm pretty sure the poster you're quoting isn't saying Insomniac is working on a Conker game currently but is probably referring to a "rumor" from awhile ago that Insomniac was approached with the idea of making a Conker game but it didn't pan out. That rumor turned out to be completely made up bullshit. I already explained this in the previous page actually. :p

Insomniac on conker would be a perfect fit imo.

I have the feeling that this e3 is all about scorpio and that there are no new big games from ms.Sadly scalebound is canceled and somehow I lost hope for a big rpg exclusive :/
At least there is state of decay to look forward to.

I am looking forward to State of Decay 2. Just because i want a good realistic singleplayer zombie survival game again. In a world of PVP zombie survival games nowadays.

Yeah, I don't own an Xbone (although I'm interested in first party projects across all three), although I've played State of Decay (badly) at a friend's house, and I think the sequel has tons of potential for improvement and refinement over the first. One of the more exciting games slated for this year.

That tweet is your weekly lesson from Mr. Hot Air on how to use words to say absolutely fucking nothing. They could literally announce nothing more this year, release what little they have announced right now, and that tweet would still hold true. It's as meaningless a statement as it could possibly be.

And people give me shit for not liking this guy.

I wanted to love YOSE but I hated it. A game with perma-death where zombies can clip through solid objects (including doors) to get to you and the frame rate constantly stutters and dips into N64 territory just isn't fun. UL put out an unfinished game and then didn't fix any of the technical issues and bugs post-release so I am very wary about SOD2.

i doubt that we have to wait until E3. Micrososft isnt that kind of Company that announces special Events very early.
Microsoft didnt announce their May 2013 XboxOne Reveal Event until late April 2013. So who knows, i expect a scorpio Event.
I think it more depends on what they have for E3 and what they would be willing to show in an event before E3.

I mean most likely the event would be about scorpio, its specs etc. With maybe some current games running on higher Quality to show.

IMO Scorpio needs a seperate event. Then they could focus on games games games without the boring Hardware talk etc

Phil wasn't sure on pre-e3 and tbh I doubt they have the content to fill 1 full show let alone 2 they sure as shit didn't last year

But how much time do they really need to speak about hardware? 15 minutes?

They could do a talk right after the press conference about the specifics of the hardware, but on stage they don't need much time.

The Xbone reveal for example, how much time was really spent on the hardware itself?

They will wait for e3.

I definitely understand where you are coming from. The "I feel good about this year" is a copy and paste from previous years.

Go back and watch their past shows. They have plenty of enough going by past standards. 90 minutes flies by tbh

Crackdown, SOD2, sea of thieves segments. Forza trailer. Id@xbox. Mine craft segment. 2-3 third parties. , 1-2 cgi trailer. 1 halo trailer.

Last years show wasn't one of those shows, the demos for FFXV and Tekken were bizarre and unnecessary, most of the demos in general weren't great imo and they had 2 hardware announcements, no way did they have enough content last year to hold through 2 shows and arguably last years could've been shorter

They always have awkward demos or throwaway segments. 2015 had that bad TR demo and the hololens thing, elite controller etc.

Well TR was a timed exclusive so it made sense to show that, but it's true that they do. Last year they also had Ybarra talking for like 5 minutes about new Xbox live features that Major Nelson could have just tweeted a blog post about, and another stage demo of Minecraft, a game that came out in fucking 2011. And don't forget showing the exact same Battlefield 1 trailer that EA showed the day before

They've gotta bring it this year

lol Seriously, who's hype for Sea of Thieves ? It's written Bomba all over it.

Are you kidding? it's one of the most popular genre right now.
Just give some top twitch streamer early access and profit. It will be biggest new IP for MS for a long time, a mega hit.

You are so very very wrong on this one.

As for the Scorpio roadmap, I see them having an event in April / May and they focus on the hardware and specs but also show off a number of games that have had a Scorpio patch or just runs better. Games like Sunset Overdrive, Halo 5, Gears 4, ReCore etc. And at the end Phil says and join us at E3 to see a slate of new games developed with Scorpio in mind.

That would be a winner in my eyes.

You really think holding an event showcasing old games running better will go over well?

I dont think we see a event before E3 really. Its not a whole new console etc. And i think they learned from the Pro event. There isnt that much to say. And all can be said in a news post or some sort of Nintendo Direct. They cant show alot of games also because E3 is soon after.

I've got really high hopes for Sea of Thieves and Crackdown looks really cool. Ori and the Blind Forest 2 would be amazing. The initial reveal for the first game (was it E3 2014?) was fantastic.

Really hoping they're saving some new game announcements for the Scorpio reveal as well. I don't usually game on an Xbox console (it was a godsend that Forza was made available on PC) but I am excited to see how Microsoft really pushes this hardware. Would be great to see some software that truly takes advantage of it without leaving the existing userbase behind.

Nothing too exciting. State of Decay and Sea of thieves are the ones I'm looking forward to. Halo Gears and Forza are finally getting to be too much for me. :/

Scorpio can't be just a beffed up PS4 pro, it needs to be more, deliver the feeling of a next gen platform. The thing needs features not possible on the X1 like integrated mods, access to generation win32 Windows apps, VR. To introduce those new things they need a separate event.

If they won't have one, most likely it will be another Ps4 pro. Also it would mean they don't have enough software for the show which I'd the most important to recover public approval after the disaster that was last year.

Personally, I expect they to act out of desperation and show many CGI trailers, since partnerships that may be end up cancelled.

Sea Of Thieves has great potential, is the kind of game that appeals to the Xbox and PC public a lot. Same for SoD 2, all they need to do is invest on some heavy marketing for both

Yeah, they really need to stop doing that. It also happened in 2015 with the Fallout4 segment

You really think holding an event showcasing old games running better will go over well?

Personally? Yes.

A Scorpio event doesn't need to be E3 length like 90 minutes or anything like that. Hold it at the Redmond campus, make it 35/40 minutes and spend half of that on the new hardware, a quarter of it bringing third party devs onstage to show off some old games and then the final quarter dedicated to older first party titles.

End it by saying we have lots more to show you at E3 in a few weeks and ride that hype train hard.

That would work for me.

If there are improvements to older releases I don't see a problem informing people. Sony did it with the likes of Infamous Second Son on the Pro.

I just don't see a point in making an event and showcasing older games running better. Who wants to see brand new hardware and then proceed with watching gameplay of games we've already played?

The Sony event wasn't well received either if I recall correctly.

The Sony wasnt well received because it was a awful event. The stuff they mostly showed was 4k and HDR stuff nobody could see through a stream.
The talk by Cerny wasnt exciting either. The PS4 Pro event lacked the excitement etc.

For example showing people how Battlefield 1 or ME Andromeda will look like for 1080p users on scorpio would be IMO pretty good stuff.
On top of that of course indepth tech talk about the Hardware etc.
