Microsoft to hold Xbox & Windows 10 Media event Feb. 25th

Any chance of new title announcements? Particularly I want FH3 on PC.

iirc this will be more of hands on event for upcoming games

yep. Very slim chances of new title announcements. This is a showcase for the media to get hands on Xbox and Windows 10 games that's coming out in the spring timeframe. If there are any game announcements, I would presume them to be Windows 10 version of games (Forza, Gears 4, and Crackdown). I actually hope they do.

FYI, I talked to Paul Thurrott, MS Reporter (he knows his stuff), and he doesn't expect there to be any announcements for this event. Probably just more preview material for press.

Wait, it's not live? Fuck that.

Microsoft Showcases have never been live. They've always been press preview events.

I was also under the impression this would be live streamed. Guess not then. I didn't do any reading on what the event was actually going to entail. If it is press oriented demos of what they are doing then this is pretty much the norm

I thought I updated my last post saying that it would have an embargo. Guess not. But yea, I knew that there was going to be an NDA for the event. We'll get information about it next Tuesday. No biggie.

Next Tuesday then for any write ups or videos then, that's a bit crap. Was hoping to have a weekend of just reading dozens of previews of upcoming games.

Now I need to socialise with family and friends and shit :(

The journos need time to create their content whenever they get home from the showcase :P

People worked themselves up for this, it was never going to be streamed lol

Damn, was hoping this was live.

Aren't there still issues with the MP? I heard it mostly works now.

Works fine now. Wait times for MP are a tad slow but that's a matter of population I suppose. Was updated in...January of this year I think.

Wonder what the odds of a Gears 4 beta build being at the preview are. It would be really nice to get a date and some b-roll on Thursday or Tuesday.

0%. This is a showcase for the Spring games (as I stated in OP). Anything related to games further away won't be commented on.

Exactly this.

I just want the KI S3 release date dadgumit

Me too, but you'll get it soon enough ;). March is only a week away.

EDIT: I don't think you'll get any announcements (even regarding W10 games) as all the games coming this Spring time will be coming to W10 PC anyways. We may get some news, but I don't think we'll get anything major. Just more previews of games and that's a good thing. I'm looking forward to see what they do with Ori for those who already bought the game, will it be DLC or something. This also gives a chance for media to ask MS questions surrounding the PC issues that players have (SLI, Overlays, etc...). I would definitely talk to some media folk if yall know any to ask them to ask those questions.

Beta is in spring.

Even then I don't expect it to be there. I'm sure when they're ready to show it it will have its own press event.

You don't show off a Beta. You just have a beta. There would be no reason for them to create a special build of the Beta for media (in my opinion) as that takes time and the Beta won't really help the developers as the pool isn't big and it's only 1 day and I'm "sure" they want huge numbers for stress testing as that would make sense.

They showed off Halo 5 MP at the launch event for MCC iirc. Gears is a huge franchise for them and they will want to get information on the game out there in a way that maximises PR, just dumping a beta out doesn't do that and people are likely to miss a load of features and information that way.

I doubt Gears 4 will be at this event but I expect them to do something like a Game Informer cover to get news out there before they do the beta

You are right. I am wrong. lol.

Now i know why is embargo on that event. Crapgamer will commit suicide if event goes live.

I don't understand the logic (or lack thereof) behind this. Microsoft owns the games they sell and the OS they're run on. It's a huge win win if they continue to release these big exclusives on PC. It benefits everybody, especially Microsoft. XBOX One is essentially a budget way of playing great games. If you hate PC, play them on a good $350 piece of tech.

The more these exclusives sell, the more money Microsoft has to make more of them.
Not directing this at you or anything. It's just silly all around.

(I just bought a beastly PC and can't wait for these games. Please release Scalebound, Gears 4 and Crackdown on PC)

I was also under the impression that it would be streamed. Was eagerly anticipating this all month thinking there would be at least a couple of major Win10 game announcements. What a letdown.

People worked themselves up for this, it was never going to be streamed lol

Exactly this.

Oh, damn. I was one of those people that was really, really excited for this event. I thought it would be live streamed and would have Windows 10 streaming to Xbox One news.

I didn't expect megatons all over the place, but I thought the purpose of the event was to make waves. I completely missed its true purpose - an opportunity for Xbox staff to let journalists know the company's thinking heading into the first big wave of the year (spring games).

C'mon, GAF. Can't you help no-nothings like me out and help us keep expectations in check before we go nuts with anticipation? A simple this is a journos-only, non-streamed event would have sufficed.

Nope. Probably going to be a bunch of nothing.

Its a preview event to play their Spring line-up, Microsoft never promised grand announcements and a bunch of other stuff... people will walk in, play games, do an interview or two then walk out and write it up, that will probably be it and the original OP article never said it would be anything more.

Being hopeful I am looking for Ori DE release date and we'll probably get the same (or a narrower period) for Gears UE on Windows 10 and the Forza 6 release date.

Some of you are acting like Microsoft promised the sky and instead are about to shit in your lunch

In my first post, I stated what I "hoped" (I used hopefully a lot) would happen, lofty expectations but it's just hope, I figured it wouldn't happen that way though. I also stated from a source how the event will be played out. From that information, you could tell that there wasn't going to be a stream. Microsoft would have had information up about the stream to normal consumers by now if there was going to be one. It was always labelled as a "media event"...even in the title.

I guess we got a bit too hyped for this event, i think there won't be really any great surprice but, just like Greenberg said, a showcase of this spring games line up coming to Xbox One and Windows 10, also i don't believe we'll see some other big Xbox One exclusive like Gears 4, Scalebound, Forza Horizon 3 or Crackdown 3 arriving on PC, Quantum Break was already quite likely to arrive on PC since Remedy's PC fanbase and Alan Wake past

There could be small announcements, but no megatons (like release dates, dlc content, etc...). We were never going to see information regarding Scalebound, Forza, or Crackdown as those games don't fall in the spring lineup.

What exactly do you want to be live? A stream of journalists plodding round a room and playing these games?

Its not a press conference

I was hoping this is an event where Microsoft announces a bunch of crossplatform Win 10 and XB1 stuff, justifying a lot of decisions they've made. J Allard 2.0 or some shit. I guess it's just some press sneak fucks sitting around and playing games with no major announcement...

In all honesty, those major announcements can wait until E3 really. End of spring is E3, and they already announced QB bein on W10. Every other major game in that timeframe is W10 as well. Obviously no 3rd parties (I think it will be a while before we see that...but I could be wrong). I think they'll have some announcements at GDC in relation to Xbox games coming to W10, shoot, we may see some tradtional PC games come to Xbox. But yea, I understand but I think they are gonna use GDC, and E3 for big announcements.

Xbox - Steam Cooperation incoming!

Hm... no live stream is a bummer but I guess if there any announcements to be made about future Xbox on W10 games they will give out a press release tomorrow as well.

Thanks, I try sometimes. :). I don't like putting out infomation that may be incorrect. Unfortunately for Paul he won't be going to the event himself. I'm guessing Brad Sams is, and I think Daniel Rubino is as well or someone from Windows Central.

Off topic but it's almost March and I've not seen any hints about any E3 material from any of the devs yet. Seems kind of late no?

What do you mean, any leaks of E3 material you mean?

Despite not being streamed we're bound to get Gears 4 beta info/footage right?

I wouldn't bank on it but it wouldn't be unsurprising. We'll have to wait till Tuesday to get that information about what happened.
