I suppose Microsoft's big end goal in all of this is the idea of the universal store for windows devices. I remember when Notch and Gabe Newell made a big stink about Windows being ruined as an open platform when MS was beginning their big push for the Windows 8 and the App Store that was coming along with it. If Microsoft can somehow manage to make porting and designing apps and games easy across multiple windows devices and then sell them on the same store that's a pretty big win. And the only way gamers will even look at the Windows 10 store is if there is software they want on it that they can't get anywhere else.

There's a battle of ecosystems going on between all the big players from Apple, Amazon, Google. (We've already seen Amazon reluctant to put their Amazon Prime app on the new Apple TV.) Microsoft will want to do the same with Windows 10 and it starts at the store. It's the whole reason they gave away Windows 10 in the first place. More adoption means more users that can be roped into the windows store, which means more people invested in the MS ecosystem.

Have you seen those minimum specs for Quantum Break? Why not just buy a Xbox and save the extra cash if all you want are the handful of exclusives? Also wouldn't Microsoft be pretty excited that you are going to be the proud new owner of a Windows 10 desktop and buying games off the WIndow's 10 store?

Uhhh, as an owner of all 4 home consoles, I can already tell that Microsoft has completely given up on the Xbone. It's disappointing and I'm absolutely ashamed to have bought this dust collector day 1. What's the point of even owning a console now that all the game have moved to PC!?! Why even buy console when can just build PC?!?

Tears are coming down my face and all over my keyboard writing this. All Microsoft caresa abut is money and not about please their loyal fanbase that has stuck with them since the OG Xbox. If there going to treat us like this I wont stand it!

It'd be very surprising to me, it would require a huge effort from the technical side.

From a "playing the games" side, it is fairly easy.

From a security and licensing side, it is a bit more challenging.

Funny thing is I play my Xbox One more than any other console. I just literally bought a PS4 5 hours ago and the first thing I did was update it and go back to playing Fallout 4 on Xbox One.

It's February, e3 is in June and gamescom is in August, ms like their big events too much to go and blow out on something in February.

This makes a lot of sense for what it is: the chance for press to play their expanded Spring line-up, do some interviews etc

I think one way they could attract 3rd parties back into this new GFWL is by undercutting steam by 10%. Have a 20% platform royalty instead of 30% and see how it goes from there. Most of'em wont refuse, even if they have their own storefronts (apart from their store exclusives like Titanfall, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed etc., of course).

Attracting consumers however is gonna be a mountainous task and a different ball game altogether, even with a $10 price difference it's gonna be hard to bring in that steam userbase or switch. The only thing MSFT have got better (assuming here, WIN10 store users please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) is customer support, for which Valve are rumored to hire a team of thermonuclear astrophycisists to figure out WTF it is.

GeOW is a way bigger IP than Forza, both in numbers, as well as renewing or new live subs. The only IP that's slightly bigger in terms of those, on Xbox is of course, Halo. CoD, BF and Fifa for third parties - Destiny if you count new IP's and soon Division if it catches up. If GeOW 4 does end up on PC, it means that ANY IP of theirs which isn't Halo, has a 50/50 chance of making it over.

You're not looking at the big picture from Microsoft's point of view.

The original Xbox was conceived because MS thought Sony would threaten Windows by taking over the living room. 15 years later and Windows has lost huge market share in total OS (mobile, desktop, tablet) to Apple and Google.

Microsoft stands to lose a lot more than the revenue from Live subs if Windows fails entirely.

They are using Xbox for Windows today on the grounds where the OS fight is happening. Took them long enough, I say.
