Mighty No. 9 |OT| The Blue Bomba

I saw a lot of reviews be pretty down on the music, but I'm wondering if that's a symptom of the fact that people were displeased with the entirety of the game itself. I've listened to a few tracks on Youtube and I really liked some of the tracks I heard.

I beat 3 bosses

the game is........ fun!

I only played one Mega Man game as kid and I don't remember much so, I don't know how the game is a failure, but is sure is fun for me.

I got bored with every game I played in the past 2 weeks including Blood and Wine, Twilight Princes and SoTC and suddenly I'm having a blast with this game :P

maybe I just needed a game with fast action gameplay.

The constant VA probably did it no favors. I think trying to make this a bit more "premium" hurt things some.

All of that.
-Ray DLC
-Retro DLC
-Vita version (not out yet)
-PS3 version
-PS4 version (maybe as a mistake or a glitch)

Really weird, as the LE was only for PS4 and Xbox One.

The code unlocks all versions (PS4, PS3 and Vita), but Vita version is not out yet. So, remote play at the moment.

So wait, if I use the code, I can just have the PS4 version on my hard drive and not use the disc?

Was there ever an update put out regarding the physical disc release from Fangamer? I have been busy doing my Annual Training and haven't had the time to sift through my email to find out.

Getting back to this, I got a response from Fangamer-

Sorry for the delay! Comcept has been focused on releasing the game, but now that it’s out they’ll be able to turn their attention to the assets we need to produce the merchandise. We expect to have rewards shipped out sometime this fall. Let us know if you have any other questions!

What a botched Kickstarter.

Wow. I'm so glad I didn't opt for the physical tier.

Just received another Kickstarter update. Most notable stuff:

Comcept said:
We received also word from Deep Silver that the Xbox 360 version of the game has gone gold! We have received the Xbox 360 backer codes and passed them on to Humble Bundle. We expect them to be added to everyone's accounts very soon. We will update everyone once they have all been imported into the system.

We do have one piece of bad news for our European backers. We had word last night from Deep Silver that a minor issue with the Vermilion Destroyer (RAY) DLC for PS3/PS4 was flagged by SIEE and was regressed from gold status as a result. This means that the DLC will not be available for a few days as Deep Silver and SIEE address the problem.

Made it to the last boss. Fucking hell.

How the fuck were you supposed to know that using the sword makes you invincible to bullets? The first phase is easy as hell, but it can be a pain if you don't know that.

As for the second form, I just take too much damage. I shoot the bottom pieces so I can hit the top as it comes by, but jumping over the head seems like it has to be pixel-perfect, and he does a ton of damage.

Not to mention that when he goes into volcano-mode, you have to take out the two bottom pieces before getting on top, and it's almost impossible to dodge his sludge as it falls down from above.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but it's frustrating.

If for some reason you're still stuck on the last form, I would suggest using Battalion. Two perfect hits on the 4-part body kills it, dash through that. Then deal additional damage with Battalion as head is leaving, making sure you get your air-dash off properly. The same is true for the flower phase. Always try and anticipate it, then get two-three fast battalion hits on the two-part body, dash through that and jump up the platforms. If you're quick enough, you can do that without taking damage. Then while flower form is spouting its crap at you and missing, you can R2+Square a couple more battalion shots diagonally down to soften up his HP bar for the next Dash Attack.

So ledge grabbing... anyone else have any advice so using this properly. It seems like a stupid question but I had a hell of a time with the highway level because Beck kept dropping off the ledges randomly instead of leaping onto cars. I've had this problem since the first playable demo on the PC so I'm quite pissed off that this is still happening in the game. Actually, I'm just annoyed that ledge grabbing is even in the game at all. Either use wall jumping or nothing at all (I'd have been more happy with either). Not a fan of dying and feeling that it wasn't my fault.

Otherwise I'm enjoying the game. Its definitely above average at very least for me bar wall jumping. I can see me enjoying replaying some stages, but due to some annoying sections in levels I don't feel particularly hyped up to 100% absorb/S rank levels. Getting the plat on this game will be enough for me. Challenge mode seems kind of fun, can't do the "6 shot Bat level" yet though, can't figure out the best route for taking out all the enemies within the required number of shots.

Graphics are pretty damn bad in places, but that's not really affecting my enjoyment of the game at all, its more the little control issues here and there like ledge grabbing and weird sliding (as if I were on ice) at points in the game.

I'll play some more to see what my opinion is on the other few levels. Bosses seem fun enough so far though. Does anyone know what the secret to getting all the "Fine" bonuses on boss fights mean? I've got a couple of them randomly but nothing that I can really replicate.

Yeah, nothing like MMX here. Some bosses do definitely take more damage against their weakness (Aviator, for instance, is pretty damn easy using Countershade's weapon), but for the most part nothing really ever changes up other than those insta-kill moves.

The biggest problem I have with the boss fights is if you don't know the boss's weakness, there's no SIMPLE way to change weapons easily. You have to cycle through each one as far as I can tell, since you can't pause and change weapons. So you're running, jumping, shooting, and pressing the trigger trying to cycle through the weapons to get to the one you want. It's pretty cumbersome. And since you have to change into boss weapon mode after you switch (from regular Beck), it's another step.

You can bind up to 3 powers to a hotswap button on your controller.

Got an e-mail from them and I am confused by this;

We also have another small update from our side is regarding the Wii U codes for NoE and NoAUS. These have been 100% imported into the system by Humble Bundle now, so any backers waiting for those keys should be able to find them on their Humble Bundle page at this time.

I don't have a Humble Bundle account so where do I get my code?

You know, I just played the tutorial, and it feels pretty good actually.
And I like the clean graphics.

(Also runs amazingly well at 2560x1440 with 8x MSAA, using just 14% of my 970)

How the hell are you supposed to dodge Pyro's "Here it comes... BOOM!" attack?

EDIT: Worked it out. Run up to him to bait him and then run back.

By the way, this whole level and boss sucks.

You have to beat the 8 robot masters for one of co-op options, IIRC, and then the Prison stage for the other.

Oh, that kinda blows. I wanted to play this game in co-op mode with a friend of mine from the beginning or something, but I guess I'll have to clear a huge portion of the game first.

Thanks for this, it helped a ton.

AFAIK, co-op is just a challenge mode thing, not a story mode thing.

trying to keep an open mind on this but I really don't know what to make of the game so far. I was honestly expecting a low tier megaman like MM8 or X6 but it just seems so much worse than that...

Should I keep going in one direction or pace back and forth? Why isn't there a fucking checkpoint?

Because checkpoints are triggered when you pass by them for the first time. Like the other guy said, it's a terribly designed level.

Then there are the insta-death wires. I mean, granted I only died to once because I wasn't really paying attention but it's incredibly dumb, especially since at least 70% of the level is you just dashing through empty space.

Yes. It sucks. And you get bored and start getting hits from the regular enemies since you aren't playing well.

What a colossal piece of shit. They delayed this game for a year and they still couldn't work out kinks like this. Every level seems to have one part that just seems poorly designed, but this level is a disgrace.

Maybe I'll try again, I don't know.

Ended up getting my controller to work.

The game doesn't look as ass on PC with high settings as it does on console, but the visuals are still so barren and boring. They ooze plainness. Most of the stage area isn't populated either making it just seem like Beck runs along with only maybe 1-2 enemies on screen (at most 5 or so is what I've seen).

The stages themselves are pretty boring so far. I die sometimes, but when I do die I feel it's because of cheapness rather than me messing up. The difficulty will get a suddeb rise at certain parts of each stage and you basically get blind-sighted. The game really relies on tough love - unless you know about things beforehand, you usually will die due to there being no learning curve for those one-time sections. The cheapest death I've had so far was in the instant-death-sparks hole in Mighty No 2'a stage. You're falling and it makes sense but then suddenly it wants you to dash left and completely screws with the pacing. I've never died on that section since, which is why I feel it was such a cheap blind-sight death.

Cheap deaths aside, I think the game is pretty easy. But I have been playing Mega Man games for a long time too, so that likely helps a lot. I'll probably beat the game once and then put it down after that.

My problem with the music is that I haven't heard more than a few seconds of it because the volume of it is so low that it disappears once the action starts!

So was I supposed to get the RAY DLC with the PS3 crossbuy copy? Because it wants me to pay $5 to get it for that version, even though I have the dlc downloaded for PS4.

7/8 bosses beaten, just got the Capital Tower left (which by the sounds of it is the worst level in the game).

Bar ledge grabbing I'm enjoying the game. Its very rough round the edges but I do like a few things about the game - bosses for the most part have been pretty fun and I do like the absorption technique - after playing through some of the levels through several times my timing is down pretty well so I can do fairly well on most of them (averaging A ranks, could probably bump a few up to S if I could be bothered).

But level design does feel very rough - the highway is hindered by ledge grabbing and just generally being pretty by the numbers, I probably have played stages where I leap from one car to the next in so many games it feels generic. I did like the boss battle though so that's something.
Pyro's level is just a mess with the fire (it reminds me of Flame Man out of Mega Man 6, if all the charm and decent level design was sucked out of it). Again, I enjoyed the boss battle.

I liked the water level, my only real complaints were the performance on the second half of the level (the ice bit) and the murky water at the beginning (WTF? Its almost impossible to see anything). I'd say the boss needs to shut up, but her lines of dialgoue dictate which of her attacks she'll use... still better than the "burn to the ground" stuff in Mega Man X7.

I like most of Bat's level, even if it seems like its seen 0 changes since the first demo released all that time ago. Most of the level has a nice flow, but the end bits with the fiddly platforming bring it down.

The Radio Tower should have been more fun, as I did enjoy most of it but there were a few fiddly bits when you combine the ledge grabbing and wind working against you.

I somehow doubt a sequel will happen, but if it did I'd be happy as if the level design and core controls/mechanics were tightened up I'd be enjoying it even more. I think the reviews were about right really. This seems like a 5-7 game depending on your opinion of it. There are too many things holding it back from being great I feel, but at the same time I'm still enjoying it and can't wait to play more (and do the harder difficulties etc.)

I do like the way the game challenges you to clear certain "challenges" in levels - like speed running sections or pulling off certain moves against bosses, I've had a lot of fun replaying levels to complete those tasks.

Look for any email from "mightyno9@comcept.jp". They address you by your number in every single one of those emails (surveys and votes). Also, if you go to the Mighty No. 9 official site login and click "Password recovery" and enter the email you used for the kickstarter, the reset email will address you by your number. I think the catch with this method is that you had to have done the initial login with the user/pass they gave you in that email for it to work. Otherwise, it says to contact them if you don't know your username.

Thanks! Really helpful
