It's not a portal, it's two teleport columns: one at spawn, and one at the new 1.8 "spawn" area. You just press a button and are instantly teleported with everything you have on you. So yeah, you can take anything you want with you. If you are asking how you can bring ALL of your stuff to the new area, well yes, make a lot of cargo ferrying trips! I've done a few such trips already, using an enderchest as well makes it twice as efficient.

So the first night on the 1.8 server went pretty good. Except for the occasional server restart everything ran well as far as I can tell. Seems a lot less laggy for me too than it was before.

Need to look up the enderchest recipe -.- I have no enderpearls if that is required.

Note: For whoever started building the station building for Gaf North, I have two pieces of advice:

1. We put Gaf Central right on the axis of a main road and then it got in the way whenever we wanted to walk East. Consider placing it next to an axis, rather than on one.

2. There is nothing to the East of new spawn but ocean. It should point North or West, really. That's where all the interesting terrain is around here.

With all the craziness that 1.8's introduced it seems like a fun time to get back into Minecraft. Would it be possible to get whitelisted on NeoCraft? My in-game name is redjacked.

Whoah... I've NEVER seen this much lag playing Minecraft online. GAFLand is unplayable at this time.

Something somewhere is definitely broken.

Although Im not regularly back on the server yet can I implore that those in creative mode try to stay away from those in survival. It kinda ruins it for me if I build my shitty little house and then some massive creative build in diamond blocks pops up next door (obs exaggerating but you get the point ;) )

You can always just go far away and mark out a big chunk of territory :)

Alternatively, we should have thrown them all into a Neo Ashgadia ghetto :)

Did notice I was getting far fewer frames than usual yesterday...

I was not talking about the game running slowly, but internet lag. Mobs updated their place in the world every 60 seconds or so and chunk loading was super-slow.

EDIT: Did a quick visit to GAFLand. Everything is back to normal.

People can now change their own game mode on the server. There's a monument at spawn right by the map. Hit the button and you are set.

i guess with ability to switch back and forth between creative at our own will means we don't have to worry about having our items stolen. Easier for a person just go into creative mode.

True, that's actually a good point, hadn't really thought of that. And if anyone gets griefed then it will be a simple thing to go into creative and quickly fix whatever was damaged too.

I really like the transporter columns we have between spawn and new spawn right now. Minsc did a good job setting those up, that nether portal railway from spawn to new spawn takes quite awhile to ride!

I should have the dropbox map updated by this weekend so we can all see where everything is in relation to each other now.

I'm kinda sorry of my english. Here in Ukraine I'm only reading minecraft/programming tutorials and documentation and watching youtube videos. And it is know that if one in Kiev have a chance to talk with english native speakers he will try, even if he knows only phrases such as 'London is the capital...' and 'I'm on duty today'. :) And I'm one of them.
The second reason I want to join community is our common interest - minecraft. I have played on many private servers, but they live no longer than 2 or 3 months. I'm such a lazy incarnation of Zisteau, who has huge projects, but no ability to finish them.

I kinda discovered neocraft the same way, but I was already a neogaf member. I stumbled upon nihon's videos somehow and was like "wait, what, neogaf has a minecraft server?". ha :p

community threads seem to be invisible to most people, which would explain why the server always gets a boost of people on when a new OT is posted in general gaming.

No, i've been getting block lag occasionally though. Especially if there is a lot of people on.

No, but I have noticed one thing: if I play in single player for a bit and crank up my draw distance, and then try to hop onto GAFland, it won't let me log in at all. Not until I go back into my options and manually set the draw distance back down to 16, then I can log in just fine.

Strange, but not a big deal for me.

The change to 1.8 is very recent. It only happened a few days ago. The first post hasn't been updated as there has been talk of creating a new Minecraft Gaf community thread. That or Mengy has been too busy building wonderful things on the gafland server.

Was happy to login and find my buildings as they were… but now I'm kinda realizing I was looking forward to starting over kinda! MC is definitely one of those games where starting over is half the fun

In case anyone is willing to go really, really far away, I just found the one of the coolest locations on the seed.

(1800, -10800) is a good sized patch of sunflower plain... completely surrounded by snowy mountains and ice spikes.

It's from a backup from a few days ago, so it's not entirely the most current, but close. There are a few square spots that are empty, those were chunk errors that Overviewer experienced during generation. Not sure what caused them, hopefully the newer version I got today will fix them up.

Some places seemed to not render correctly. If you look at the new Pioneer Town (or what ever we call it) the whole south-west chunk is missing. It's also possible you started building after mangy downloaded the wold file to do the render.
