Mirror's Edge will forever be a great idea that will never be a great video game.

Wow. 74 for the original game, and 86 for the enhanced edition re-release. What happened? Did the game change that much? Was it just not part of the zeitgeist and it paid for it?
Sounds more or less what I was afraid of once I heard it was going to be open-world.
I'll still probably pick this up, but I'm content with waiting a bit.
This gens status quo reviews all over the place. All the doom amd gloom in some of these posts, Dying Lights meta was 74 and it was a damn fun game.
Financial Post - 6/10If you loved the original Mirrors Edge, you will likely love Catalyst as well.
TheSixthAxis - 7/10However, as with the original Mirrors Edge eight years ago, this reboot isnt all that I imagined it could be.
IB Times - 3.5/5At its best, Mirrors Edge Catalyst is a joyous flight across the rooftops of a gorgeous city, with a grace that belies the weight and impact of Faiths movement, but DICE seem to forget this on a few occasions, dragging it down with combat that brings the free running to a halt.
ZTGD - 8/10If you loved the original Mirror's Edge, or enjoy the concept of free-running around a beautiful city without the fear of falling off a skyscraper or crotching yourself on a railing, Catalyst is most definitely right up your alley.
Game Revolution - 3.5/5Mirrors Edge Catalyst is the follow-up no one ever thought would get made. It is clearly a passion project for the team at DICE, and it finally feels like it lives up to its ambitious design.
Xbox Achievements - 75/100If you're a fan of the original Mirrors' Edge, this will probably be a no-brainer, but Catalyst would be an easier recommend even with the clunky controls if it had been sold cheaper, perhaps as episodic content.
Its a solid game as far as playing the story missions are concerned, but like Faith herself it can sometimes fail to find its legs elsewhere.
Gona free run away from this. Till we meet in the bargain bin. Welcome to the future!
I could be wrong but I don't remember seeing a lot of calls for this to be open world. The feedback or complaints seemed to concentrate more on the combat side of things.

If you want a good story, you should just buy a book instead of playing video games.and all the other design decisions that came along with it.
DICE missed the point with this game. I dont get it. Why didnt you just make more of the first fucking game and try to clean up the story a bit?
I feel a little bit dead inside as we're probably living the death of Mirror's Edge.
I don't think this franchise deserved it.

I cant tell if you are serious or not.If you want a good story, you should just buy a book instead of playing video games.
"damned if you do, damned if you dont" is a shitty defense. I hope you bought the collectors edition of this game since you think its so great.Do you really think if they had just churned out a more polished version of the 2008 game that the reviews would have been kind? They would have dinged it for just being "more of the same" and "too familiar".

If they're gonna put so much story/character/dialog into a video game, maybe they should make it good next time
That's their fault for wasting money. Stories just aren't for this medium. If they're gonna put so much story/character/dialog into a video game, maybe they should make it good next time

Yep, even the best story of this year (some claim) is just a retread of National Treasure 2. Still got a long way to go for game storytelling as a whole.

There are reviews that literally say "this game is basically the same as the first one" and gives it an 8/10. 8 years later and it's basically the same. I can't think of another franchise that does this.
See, the problem with me parodying the stupid comments about book and video games is that inevitably, someone comes along and agrees with me.Yep, even the best story of this year (some claim) is just a retread of National Treasure 2. Still got a long way to go for game storytelling as a whole.
So people are going apeshit over the 7's it's getting? Dat metacritic scale huh?
So it won't be GOTY but it'll probably still be a good game if you like that sort of thing (I don't, myself, but come on guys, some of those reactions are laughable).
The horror!

Theres nothing decisive about it. DICE took an original game, rebooted the story to make it even worse, shoehorned in open world mechanics, and added a garbage skill tree system.Called it: this game might supercede The Division as Most Devisive of 2016.

They fucked up. Period.
This is a very naive comment. Instead of asking narrative directors and game creators to aspire to achieve a level of excellence in storytelling, you're instead willing to give them a pass. Very naive indeed. If you want a good story, you should just buy a book instead of playing video games.
so basically...............its a solid game
yup, totally picking it up
The open world sounds like the best thing here. So, killed by open world, as expected. Will still buy day one.
I assume reviewers jumping on that positive word of mouth train to not make a fool out of themselves. Try re-releasing Demon's Souls today![]()
I hope you arent trying to say that if I didnt play through the entire retail release I cant complain. You sound angry. Have you played the game?
