Miyazaki says Elden Ring’s graphics team felt ‘extra pressure’ due to Demon’s Souls PS5

PS3 gen their game look ok

PS4 gen look passable

PS5 gen it really shows it age

If From cant upgrade their own engine then i highly recommend using different engine like UE5, Unity or CryEngine

Perhaps they can borrow Bluepoint engine cos it looks great

Some people still cant acept From graphics havent evolved much since the original demon souls ( emphasis here on game engine and graphics not presentation and artsyle or gameplay , some people have hard time differentiate those two)

Not to speak of the nightmarish man centipedes on 3-2.

2009:

latest

Remake:

The original models are so much more creepy and evil looking.
First creature looks fake, as if it's a sculpture made of clay by a craftsman of a medieval society. The top head in particular looks like it's made from hardened mud.

Bottom one looks like a decayed monstrosity. Melted, rotting fleshy faces stuck together like something out of Dante's inferno.

The latter looks more real, but it also looks undead, while the first one looks like it was aiming for something not undead. Just monstrous.

In the end, the latter is something much better looking, but seems to forgot what the original was supposed to be along the way.

Blue Point made the best looking Souls game. That's just a fact. So swallow your pride, choke on the rinds, but the lack there of would lead you empty inside

Bluepoint hasn't made a game yet. They still need to prove they can make a good one from the ground up before I give them too much praise. They did an amazing job touching a finished game up though! It's also the most boring Souls entry since it doesn't exist on PC. No mods. Sadge

Considering it still looks a lot better than the next From game. I'll give them praise.

Wouldn't it have required quite a bit of work since it was originally a ps3 game. I think you are downplaying what they accomplished just a bit. I do get what your saying in that they haven't technically made their own original game.

To me ER looks way more appealing graphically than most games on 8th gen... it just looks pretty, art direction fits me pretty well and that's what matters the most to me

I think this was my biggest issue when I saw the remake comparisons in that it lost some of the feel of the original game when they upgraded/changed the graphics.

This seems to happen quite often when you have a large leap in the visual upgrades. A failure to understand sometimes why an older game was charming visually with its limitations.

Bloodborne Hunters Dream with UE4 ( fanmade) already look better than From version

Just a glimpse of whats coming from Bluepoint for Bloodborne 2

From really need to up their game when its comes to graphic, getting schooled by random youtuber is not good man

Too much black crush.

They can upgrade old graphics on finished games very well, I'll give them that, meanwhile From started a new genre essentially and is regarded as one of the best devs ever. DS remaster is a PS5 only game, it better be more technically advanced. Making fun of them while praising a dev that specializes in graphics is special. Graphics whores lol

I said they did an amazing job. Kind of hard to give them more credit than that when we're in a thread that is tearing From apart for not being amazing at something they are not even known for.

Why not both? From is the one holding themselves back graphically. I hope Blue Point making Bloodborne 2 is real. We'll see who makes the best new current gen only Souls/Borne game first.

They were too scared to even make another world with the broken archstone. They don't have the stones to make Bloodborne 2.

Definitely a step back from them after Sekiro. I'd say it's one of the worst looking open world games. It certainly looks different and has it's own identity, but I can't really get over how ugly the colour scheme is or how disjointed the open world looks.

I adore From's character design and use of real world locations and armour for inspiration but it appears they've abandoned realism here to make the open world interesting and unique. It'll be fun to play but it doesn't look as atmospheric or evocative in the usual lonely way. The castles and stuff look as good as usual, but they need to change engines and probably genres now. Souls has influenced so many games it's starting to look pretty standard. Insert margenewdress gif.

You said they did an amazing job touching a finished game up. That sounds more like a backhanded compliment. From has been criticized for awhile for the graphics of their games though. They make very interesting worlds they just aren't graphical powerhouses. Which is fine but unfortunately the game has gone mainstream so folks are expecting AAA level graphics now.

The fact that I applauded their effort at all in a thread where random non-fans are dissing From Software is more than others would do. I bought a PS5 just for that game. I haven't touched the console since besides a couple of hours of Returnal so I think it's pretty awesome. It cost me 600 bucks and I'm not mad. The fact that Sony spent so much money on revamping the game is pretty telling on how amazing From Software games are. They don't deserve all the hate I'm seeing in here. We'll see their amazing art direction shine even more on whatever they make next. I think ER looks awesome as-is, though.

Fromsoftware's art direction is amazing but the graphics are a bit ancient for today. I The reason Sony spent so much money revamping the game is simply because souls games are hot right now. It got you to buy a PS5. I'm okay with the graphics but I wouldn't say it looks awesome as-is.

Cool, we differ in opinion. I watched many hours of the NT and heard my favorite streamers gush about the way it looks so I think a large percentage of fans agree. I think DS3 and Bloodborne still look awesome too. More so Ds3 since I can max it out on PC.

Why would they delay it, it has already proven itself through the network test and is the #1 most anticipated game of 2022. It will be a massive hit. And I am not even a Dark Souls fan.
I was being sarcastic. It's still a bit embarrassing that a year old remake of a game that's 13 years old, looks a hell of a lot better than Fromsoftware's next game

Japanese devs don't have a high bar to clear.

Basically: create a PC port that isn't janky as fuck and missing 99.99% of options even the cheapest, shittiest indie games already have.

Do that, and you've already crept your way up to AAA caliber.

This doesn't make any sense. The Remake is supposed to be a graphical tech showcase by a team that only does graphical tech showcases. I'm going to tell you a little secret: you won't see many games looking as good as the remake for the rest of the generation. That team's work was to fully focus on delivering the most impressive graphical technology.

I going to tell you right now, there's already better looking games and over the next year, we'll see many better looking games. Just maybe none from Fromsoftware mind

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I haven't seen anything that looks as impressive as the remake, yet. It's my life, my view, suck it up.

I agree. Although it has to be said that the quality of the remaster doesn't comes across in any YouTube videos I've seen, so perhaps there's some leeway in the argument.

I think more than ever the quality of next-gen games don't come across via YouTube compressed videos with no HDR. These games need to be played not watched on your phones. Most YouTube videos don't have HDR and when they do it's with some fucked up contrast.

I agree. I was critical of bluepoint before I played the game, and frankly staggered afterwards. There has never been a more atmospheric souls game and Miyazaki is clearly aware of that. At least he's honest with himself.

I think in general the rendering just looks last gen. Or even last-last gen. Like, is there even any PBR? Kinda doesn't look like it, nothing has a realistic "physical quality" to it.

Other stuff like foliage also looks a generation behind the better looking PS4 open world games.
