That said the game is really good and this is coming from a 2K guy. I like The show much better with meter pitching off. Makes it simpler but it's okay lol

Only issue is the weird ball physics at times and how the ball suddenly gets "huge" on a hit up the middle. Really strange camera work :eek:

2k's analog is easier because it's timing only. All you do is pull back and push up, regardless if the pitch is left or right of the zone. It's pull back and push up period.

The show has various options with analog batting. Timing is pull back push up just like 2k's, But it also factors in the batters Plate Coverage(PCI) so if the pitch is left or right in the zone in order to get a good or solid hit you must pull back(stride timing) and push up in the direction of the pitch. 2k and the show share not factoring in up or down in the zone.

On top of Timing(Right Stick Only) You have "ZONE ANALOG BATTING(ZAB)". In which you have to manipulate the Left Stick your PCI and the Right Stick simultaneously. So if the pitch is down and to the left in the zone, you must put your pci and your stride timing plus your swing all at the same time.

The show doesn't have a useless fight of the pitch option of pushing left or right and nor does baseball. You swing to fight of pitches like in real baseball.

And oh, the velocity of your swing is also in play so if you push up in normal fashion you're contact swinging, if you push up real fast(velocity) that's a power swing.

The Show analog batting system is complex, I think you need to get a little more acquainted with it before you crown something, or is your argument Simple vs. Complex?
 
Do they still have the normal plate coverage indicator this year (ie the yellow transparent circle that went over the zone while batting) or do you have to use that crazy sunburst thing they've come up with?

So i finally got to start my RTTS. Holy shit this is amazingly fun! This is what ive wanted to do in a baseball game for forever. (ive never played MLB The Show or any other sports game since 2k series on Dreamcast)
 
Same here. It is easier to see pitches this year but that hasn't stopped my RTTS guy from batting .167 in the first month.

Very impressed with the game so far though. I had to turn off pulse pitching because it was making my brain hurt plus the timing didn't make any sense, almost like there was controller lag.

Really agreed here, I turned it off because after playing 1 game ... it just seemed completely off to me. I didn't once make an accurate pitch. I switched to analog pitching and really liked it.

I have noticed Hitting for Contact is giving me better chances at hits. I like how 3 times last night i come to the plate, bases loaded, 2 outs. I hit line drives right at outfielders, 1 the left fielder ran in and made a spectacular play on a dive.

I usually hit for contact with 2-strikes or if it's a hit and run.
 
god DAMN i fucking suck at hitting. i'm always too slow to get good contact. i play with "guess pitch" thing on where you can guess the zone and it will tell you if you're right and even with THAT i still dont get good hits! I'm averaging maybe 4-5 hits a game but sometimes its just luck.

Just spend one entire day of your allocated MLB time to practice hitting in practice mode. Try not to use the guess system, because if you guess wrong, you're at a disadvantage. You want to remain neutral in that regard.

First, and this is how I approached hitting in real life even up to the college level, is find your pitch. And ignore everything else. Granted, at the higher levels this isn't the way to go since they can throw breaking pitches consistently for strikes, but for now - just practice on recognizing the fast ball, and make contact with it. Ignore everything else. When you are comfortable with that, focus on the curveball and ignore everything else. Soon, you'll create a twitch based visual relationship with your brain and hands in regards to recognizing pitches. Which is actually how hitting in real life is done. You don't think to swing, you just recognize certain factors early on of a balls motion and flight, and your body just reacts like breathing. Also, make sure you are comfortable with the hitting style in this game (i.e, analog versus button etc. etc. - I like analog - pure timing) When I get better I'll switch it to analog with zone hitting.

Just practice. A lot in regards to hitting. Take advantage of the practice modes for it.

What is your batting difficulty setting?

Edit - I use guess pitch so that I can always guess fastball. If it isn't a fastball I look for a curve or slider.

For hitting I use the guess pitch and zone and almost always go fastball down. I know it maybe different from what others say but it has worked for me. Let's say 0-0 count. I get the pitch there well good for me and I hope it's in the zone. I only have to watch for if it's too low. If I guess the pitch right but not location then it's a matter of watching where it is located and I usually hold off. If location is right but not pitch I try to time it and if in the middle of the zone then I swing. Same goes for 0-1, 1-1, 2-1 etc. Now 2 strikes is where you really have to pay attention and try to make contact and swing at close pitches to not strike out.

In years previous to last I used the buttons of course and last year I got used to the analog hitting but I pretty much always used contact swing and I was still able to get a good amount of home runs. I would sometimes use power swing if I guessed everything correctly and was a pitch right down the middle or close. I have not played this years game yet but should be here next week. All in all it is about waiting for your pitch and make adjustments as needed depending on count.

Don't Guess Pitch, you get either one wrong your PCI gets smaller and you suffer hit penalties.

I learned the hard way just like Guess Pitch is a recipe for failure. I look at the confidence meter and I always take a few pitches the first inning or so take 1 or 2 pitches. Taking pitches gets the pitch count up and you can just sit back and watch the pitchers release point and the movement on the pitch. Once you get his release point, you can now see what's coming a little clearer. When you get to the 3rd inning, hit the select button and then L1 now scout the pitcher look at what he's throwing and to what type of batter LH/RH his percentages for pitch types. Now you can you can guess pitch but in a real world way i.e. sitting on a pitch, this way you suffer no penalties to your Plate Coverage Indicator(PCI). You still take some pitches to keep that count rising which also means fatigue and mistakes. The Pitcher starts missing his spots and throwing balls instead of strikes. Now when you're ahead in the count you will get good pitches in the zone mainly his best pitch which is "X" Check which pitch that is mainly a fastball type. If you have been patient hits will be in abundance as far as baseball goes.


Do this on veteran leve(analog/timing), its easier to get your stride timing and less penalties for being a little late as the window to hit the ball is a little wider.

And, remember a great batter is still a failure percentage wise he only hits 3 out of 10 times.

When you are down in the count i.e. 0-2 or 1-2 make sure you select "0" circle for contact swing to try and fight off the pitches its a great help.

So I thought that this might happen again this year, because I was ready to get the bundle deal. But just decided to download the vita version for now....and will get the console version later.

Point of this post is that I'm glad vita is around to give me these options....it allows me to get these games I wouldn't have bought (because of time investment issues). But i do want to play every now and then (as well as support the devs). So because of the Vita, I bought Fifa and MLB The Show. Its great knowing I can just pick up my vita for a quick exhibition game for either sport. I'm not a franchise type sports gamer. (But maybe with a mobile version I'll give it a try now)

made the decision in the shower last night....go out to the club. $5-$10 entry fee.....+ one drink & tip $13-$15......+ eating afterwords. $6-$10. So about $24-$35 total. Not including hooking up with someone.

Anyone know if changing the face of your RTTS character on the Vita version will change it on the PS3 version? My characters face when I play RTTS on the Vita looks nothing like the face I created on PS3.

Eh, not unless there is a realistic chance at some action/deception of action.....would hate to be drunk and in the bed by myself.......but yeah if I'm having fun $60+ for a weeknight...that could've been spent on some games :(

On topic though, really like the Vita version so far...first time messing around lost to the Doyers 14-0, ump scored 10 of those runs with the stupid balk calls. Will turn off next time.

Has anyone found out a way to turn off auto save on RTTS? I cant seem to find it under the options anywhere. So antiquated to not have the auto-save be different than your manual save..

Man, I just finished my first full exhibition game, and it's games like the one that played out that make me absolutely adore this game.

Mets (me) vs. Yankees (AI) @ CitiField

Played using All-Star difficulty for both batting and pitching, and was also the first game where I tried using pulse pitching.

Johan Santana vs. CC Sabathia

Santana pitched 8 innings giving up 6 hits (2 solo homers), striking out 2

Sabathia pitched 7 innings giving up 1 run (solo homer), striking out 3 and retired something like the last 12 hitters he faced.

Going into the bottom of the 9th, the Yankees led 2-1. The Yankees, obviously brought in Mariano Rivera.

The Mets had 3-4-5 coming up (Wright, Davis, Bay)

--Wright worked the count to 3-2, then struck out on the 9th pitch of the at-bat.
--Davis worked the count to 3-2, then doubled to right-center on the 10th pitch of the at bat
--Bay also worked the count to 3-2, and finally after 14 pitches hit a game winning 2-run homer to left to give the Mets a 3-2 win.

Does anyone else play these games without any visual aids at all? No strikezone, batting circle, pitch marker, guess pitch, etc... for both hitting and pitching.

You learn the nuances of the game so much better this way, I believe, especially on the hitting front. Not only that, but it's so much more aesthetically pleasing without icons cluttering your screen. In fact, this is the only way to play the series, in my opinion.

Can't tell you how many games Kimbrell and Venters have blown thus far with one-run leads, on near perfect pitches.

I intend to pick up 12 very soon, however.

Go To User Settings and once you set everything to your liking. Don't press "0" circle when you back out press "X" and it will prompt you to save changes. It will say Custom 1 and when you go to play a game at the menu screen you can hit the right stick and you will see difficulty settings toggle to your settings customs 1.

Pulse pitching can blow me balls on Vita. It's not taking the position i hit the button on. It's clear because you see it stop at the appropriate position then immediately resize to something else. Eff that in the butts. I'm not going to train myself to hit the button at some backward ass time that has little to do with my delivery or common sense with the pulse icon. I'll always prefer the meter for that stride based release. Feels good man.

Also screw the AA fielders. What a bumbling bunch of dickholes. And the game has no intention on crediting errors to them. My ERA is doubled because of it.

I'm going to echo pulse pitching sucking on the Vita version. I've been playing the PS3 version and switched over to the Vita to see what it was all about and it feels SO touchy on the Vita controls. I seriously can't handle how touchy the controls are on Vita.

If you cannot implement a fool proof system for this online pass shit than don't fucking use it. Before this I didn't mind online passes but this makes me hate the fucking idea. Anybody got any tips for me....this is my first baseball game in a very long time. Im talking a long time, I think my last game was Ken Griffey's Winning Run.
