Harvey on 180: Said was told to him by Andrews. Not sure if it's before playoffs or after. But added: “It's something that’s been .."

Oh?

Lmao I wouldn't mind this if Mets were having another meaningless season but fuck him, such a wrong time to be saying that. This could very well be the only time he ever sniffs playoffs, shouldn't be thinking about that stuff.

Think about how lame it was when Strasburg missed playoffs when he was fucking awesome and now the Nats are going to suck forever and he won't have another chance

Oh?

It's been "around 180" since May. Never been a hard cap by all accounts.

The Blue Jays won and Yankees lost! All is right.

I saw some of the game, but passed out during part of it because I'd stayed up until 6am working on a writing project and watching TV. I'll have to catch Blue Jays in 30 tonight.

Appears Matt Harvey has had closer communication with his surgeon than his general manager. That is rare, I'd say.

New info from Rosenthal. He just spoke to Boras
*Boras said he spoke today with Harvey’s surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, and that he plans to meet with Andrews this week.

“Matt Harvey wants to pitch,” Boras said. “We’re trying to work out a plan that the doctor approves of.”

*Boras said he thought the Mets were going to handle Harvey the way the Nationals handled Stephen Strasburg in 2012, and that he met with the Mets to discuss the subject before the season started.

“Where are you at on an innings limit for Matt Harvey?” Boras recalled asking the Mets. “This is Strasburg.”

According to Boras, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson replied, “Not all are alike.” But the two sides agreed that there should be an innings limit for Harvey.

“I was like, ‘OK, that’s as far as I could take it. I can’t give them a specific number. But I brought up Strasburg. I brought up innings limits. And they agreed,” Boras said.

Boras said the issue only became a potential problem when the Mets’ chances of reaching the postseason improved significantly in August, and that is when he reached out to Alderson again.

“My assumption was that they were doing the Strasburg approach,” Boras said. “Keep pitching him on his normal day. Let him throw his innings. If he gets there and he’s healthy, great. But you may have to shut him down before the end of the season.

“My assumption was that is where we were headed. When the playoffs came up, I called in August and said, ‘The playoffs are coming. Where are we on this?’”
The four pitchers that Boras cited were Shaun Marcum, Josh Johnson, Jarrod Parker and Kris Medlen. All experienced complications, Boras said. All but Marcum had a second Tommy John.

In contrast, Boras said, the Nationals’ Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmermann built their innings in a steadier progression, reaching 200 innings only in their fourth full season after Tommy John.

That study is why Boras believes it is reasonable to follow Andrews’ recommendation of a 180-inning limit for Harvey. Harvey did not throw a single pitch last season and established his career high of 178 1/3 innings in 2013.

“This is the thing the doctors are most scared about,” Boras said. “Matt Harvey threw zero innings in 2014. He will be the only player in history ever to go from 0 to 200 innings.

“If you exceed your (career-high innings total) and you do it in your second season after Tommy John . . . all of those guys had complications. All of those guys had problems.”

What's the point of treating Harvey with kid gloves like he's making Kershaw money? I don't get that shit. Throw his ass out there, if he breaks, he breaks. The Mets can't sign Harvey to an extension because he's a Boras client and they're not going go to pay him the money he's gonna to be asking for.

Yeah that's why people are mad. This is him backpedalling on everything he's said about the issue,

Maybe he shouldn't have complained about 6man rotation and getting pulled early then.

Harvey hasn't handled this situation very well but think about what you just said from the athlete's perspective. If he breaks again and is never the same, he never gets a big contract. The team doesn't have nearly as much to lose as Harvey does since the Mets have a bunch of young pitching prospects to fill the void if Harvey breaks again.

Didn't Wainwright go from 0 innings to 200? Granted he had pitched more than 200 twice before, I guess, while Harvey hasn't

The Verducci effect is shit anyway. What matters is the maximum number of pitches a guy has thrown in a season. Going by that, Harvey can still throw 400 more pitches this year before he hits that "cap". Which is more than 180 innings.

I would sit Harvey for the rest of the year. If, by some miracle, the Mets make it to the playoffs, Harvey can watch from the bench as DeGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and maybe Colon do their able best.

Then, in the offseason, the Mets should trade Harvey for prospects.

I can't believe this nonsense came to a head in late August.

Which is fine, nobody has any problem with that at all. What the problem is, is that Harvey didn't bring this up to Sandy Alderson and say "this is my hard limit" before the season started. Sandy had NO idea.

The Autumn Wind
Holy shit, our lineup tonight is terrible! Guess it's going to be 5 loses straight for games I've attended.

What ticket re-selling sites are good? Considering getting Blue Jays tickets from someone if they're not too pricey. I worry about this route and Kijiji, though, because of fakes.

I didn't know Colon was pitching. This would have been a great game for Stanton to return. An easy home run or two would have been a nice way to get back into a groove.
