Valencia is great. A's should be happy with him. Glad he was picked up by a good organization, even if they're not contending this year.

A's gonna A. Send us your unwashed and unwanted and they shall be reborn.

EDIT: Did the Jays announcer just say "they've been pulling his chain all game"?!?

Blaine Boyer is absolutely putrid. I have no idea why he has a roster spot let alone is being used for anything other than mop up duty.

105 pitches and they throw him out there to start the 8th in a 5-1 game?

C'mon Toronto, don't be like Milwaukee and CC Sabathia this guy.

And this clown in the booth is saying he likes that they brought him back out for the 8th? Why? Who the hell is this clown doing color on the Jays broadcast? Dude's an idiot.

And they're doing the wave in Toronto. Ugh.

So, I was at the Mets game last night (my first of the season). Back in May, my dad decided to buy tickets for my brother and I for our birthdays, and I optimistically asked for the 8/2 Nats game, even though I knew there'd be a good chance the Mets would be 10 games back and getting swept that weekend. My faith paid off when it ended up being the biggest Mets game of the season so far, although I wasn't so happy about the change to a night game a few weeks ago, since I live out in Suffolk, lol.

It was by far the best Mets game I have ever attended, with the best seats. We were in row 9 in the field level, right behind the visitors' dugout. The left-handed batters were basically directly facing me, and I had a really good view of the vertical movement on all of the breaking and off-speed pitches.

The crowd was insane. We were all screaming our heads off during the 3-HR inning, and it was probably even louder in the 8th during Harper's entire at-bat. The place went nuts when Thor struck him out. I didn't join in on the "Over-rated" chants against Harper, although I did yell at Werth that his beard sucked after that safe call on the DP was overturned. We also went nuts for Flores, and I think a riot would've broken out if the double had cleared the wall. There were also chants of "We want first place!" all the way through the bottom of the 9th. I don't know how much of the screaming and chanting was getting through on the ESPN broadcast. I've never attended a playoff game live, and this is the closest I've been to being a part of a crowd that was ready to take the house down.

Apparently the Braves were offering Cameron Maybin to the Yankees for Gary Sanchez before the trade deadline, which the Yankees declined.

Ventura apology (I think)

The Price Was Right Tonight.
He's certainly saying the right things. He said that this game was the best atmosphere he's ever been in. This is a guy with significant playoff experience in a lot of different ballparks, and this game beat them all. Kissing up to the locals like that will certainly build him a fanbase. Now get his agent on the phone to start talking about that long term contract.

no surprise, but Valencia claimed by A's :(
I'm not up to date on the waiver rules, but they have to work out a trade for him right? Do the Jays have the opportunity to pull him off waivers now?

I still think it's stupid to chose Kawasaki over Valencia. Goins could easily play every game at 2nd until Travis gets back. If he got injured, then they could call up Kawasaki. Losing Valencia seems like a foolish mistake.

No, it's done. A's added Valencia to the roster and optioned Pat Venditte to Nashville.

Somewhat surprising is that the Blue Jays saw no reason to try to insist on trade compensation beyond the $20,000 claim fee, though their leverage was limited.

A's also reinstated Coco Crisp and brought up Arnold Leon, sending Smolinski and Otero to AAA. Optioning Smolinski and not someone like Fuld is a surprise. Jake has a 1.019 OPS in his 11 games since joining the A's.

I don't think Goins getting hurt was the concern really. The Jays plan to give Tulo days off, and they can't have Danny playing 2B for a full 9 innings on those days.

I'm sad to lose him and I especially find the decision to DFA him instead of Colabello a little questionable, but let's be real, he's a lefty specialist on a team filled with lefty mashers.
