Basically the Marlins had 4 players test positive yesterday and still played the game, now 13 people have it on the team. Two games now postponed tonight; Yankees-Phillies and Marlins-Orioles.

The yankees were in Philly but dont want to go into the visiting clubhhouse where the marlins were.

And everyone was fine in a week. Yawn. A bunch of young, healthy dudes. They’ll be fine.

I wish this "healty people are fine" shit would stop. Not to mention, you can still have an underlying health condition and be "healthy"

“Friday night, that was the scariest night for me. I spiked to a 104.5 fever. Thankfully, George wasn’t awake when I texted him because I probably would’ve gone to the hospital. Ten minutes after that, I gunned my forehead again and I was 103.8, then I was 103.2, 103.6. So I was like, ‘All right, if I go above 104 again, I’ll probably have to start ringing the phone and try to figure this out.’ ”
Freeman’s wife, Chelsea, detailed her husband’s struggles in an Instagram post July 4, saying “he is someone who rarely gets sick” but “this virus hit him like a ton of bricks” as he was suffering from “body aches, headaches, chills and a fever.”

He got a fever? You mean a virus made him sick. Who would’ve thought?

And no, you cannot have underlying health conditions and be “healthy”. That is categorically nonsense.

Sorry that people dont want 104 degree fevers which could kill someone with an underlying condition. I know its hard to believe but baseball players do have diabetes and other conditions that could get them killed, so basically you just need an athlete to die for it to mean something to you?

I guess that only unhealthy people have died so far

Wow, a fever.

Lots of things can cause 104 degree fevers, best I can recall, we never shut down the entire country and acted like scared children when any of that other stuff goes around.

Oh great one of these people . Nevermind forget it, I'm dealing with psychopaths in here

Where am I wrong? If a player has diabetes or is at risk they can CHOOSE to stay home. Lots of players have, in all the sports, and nobody faults them. We all take risks in our lives, professional athletes making millions of dollars are certainly capable of deciding for themselves.

Athletes are more at risk for sustaining a long-term injury or dying from playing their sport than they are from COVID. Most likely even those with underlying health conditions.

That said, I see people starting to panic over this and my prediction is that if there are one or two more COVID outbreaks, they will cancel the season.

THey were also told that players who tested positive wouldnt be playing infected others. They disregarded that by playing with a positive test result.

Eh, sounds like a Union problem. But who cares? Again, they will be fine. And then they will be good for the remainder of the season at least. Just keep them away from old people for 10 days.

These leagues won't make it through their shortened seasons with hysterics still in play.

These athletes get paid extremely well and they're some of the healthiest people in the country. Remember Michael Jordan's "flu game"? There are lots of examples to show the adversity athletes overcome, like NHLers playing on broken legs.

''Every player in the league has the flu once in awhile,'' Gretzky said afterward, unwilling to make excuses. ''Playing with it is part of the game, part of being a professional.'' -Chicago Tribune

We've become soft, too soft.

I'm going to assume they just make the Yanks play the Orioles for the next few days instead of making all 4 teams sit out while they await for negative rest results.

All of America should come together to make sure the season lasts long enough for Ohtani to record an out. I can't stand to see my boy with an infinity ERA.

His ERA looks fine to this A’s fan...

If this happens one more time they'll probably shut the season down. They should power through, but they won't. God forbid somebody else gets a 104 fever for a night like poor baby Freddie Freeman.

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion
3 games cancelled and it hasn't even been a week. MLB has to be sweating.

And the fact the team knew they were sick and played anyway is another huge red flag for the league. MLB looks like fools for all their health and safety talk to have this happen after less than 6 games played.

How do we do contact tracing on them?

Not everyone involved with professional sports is a 20 something year old adult in prime fitness. There are managers, coaches, trainers, executives, broadcasters who all could be at risk. And yeah, given enough cases some 20 year olds will die as well. Again, when was the last time this many players came down with the flu within a span of two days?

Flu moves through teams literally all the time, multiple times per year, especially for winter sports.
1) it’s not winter, and these people were playing an outdoors sport.
2) When was the last time 14 players (and counting) came down with the flu on a team sport?

The stats prove COVID-19 is far more transmissible than the flu, and anecdotes like this drive the point home further. But some people would prefer to stick their head in the sand.

yea, and states are dealing with this stupidity because they got scared and didn’t let the virus run its course in flu season.

Nobody has ever doubted the transmissibility of this, the point is it’s not as deadly or dangerous as everyone has been saying for months, which is an absolute, objective, uncontestable fact. It is very likely that at least 5 or 6 of those players are showing no symptoms. So sit them for a week or two or whatever the policy is and they can get back to it later. What’s the fucking problem, outside of obsessed busybodies like you who get off on telling everyone else what to do.

They are grown men, they know the risks, they can make their own decisions.

We would never find out, if half or more of them were asymptomatic. Because they don't test entire teams of healthy players for flu 2-3 times per week.

Keep jerking it to your fear porn though.

As I've explained, there are members of the team that are not perfectly healthy 20 year olds that are vulnerable.
I've never told people what to do. Just given my opinion, no different than you.

P.S. I'm still waiting for you support your statement that no one in Asia wears a mask unless they're sick.

No fear porn here. Just offering a counter opinion to the just the flu bros. I used to be one of you until late March. Perfectly willing to have my opinion changed again if the facts support it.

LOL I never said that. I said the custom is to wear a mask while sick as a courtesy, which is true. I also said that people don't wear masks 365 days a year as common practice, which they don't.

The idea isn’t that it’s just the flu. It’s clearly worse than the flu. The question is what is the reasonable response to what it actually is? How dangerous is it to most people and what lengths should we go to the prevent it? Because there is a massive amount of media hype that has scared people into irrational fear about a disease that outside of a very small fraction of people, is not particularly special.

That’s doesn’t mean go wild. But it’s not a crisis when a few guys get an illness they wouldn’t even know they had if they weren’t tested for it.

No Problem , just have the mets keep playing the red sox for the rest of the season so we have a shot LGM
