MLB Off-season Thread 2015-2016 IOTI Back to the Future was a lie

Looking at average length of 9 innings, the 3-hour mark tends to be a sign of where we move into slower pace. Every club had at least one team that they matched up with that saw game average-per-9 innings go over 3 hours… with the exception of one.

The Toronto Blue Jays were the only team, that no matter who they played, got games in under 3 hours.
They came close to the 3-hour mark against the Baltimore Orioles (averaged 2:59), but on average against other AL teams the Jays came in at an average of 2:46, the lowest average in all of MLB last year.

In fairness, the Jays weren’t the only ones having games averaging under 3 hours a game. On the National League side, the Miami Marlins averaged 2:48 per 9 innings last season. If it hadn’t been for the Milwaukee Brewers where the two teams averaged 3:07, the Marlins would have matched the Jays for all home games under 3 hours.

The Biggest Pace Of Play Offenders

In terms of who is stretching games out, not shortening them, you might be surprised at who had the longest games… or, maybe you wouldn’t if you thought about the strength of their pitching.

Last season, the team that stretched games out the longest wasn’t the Red Sox or Yankees. In fact, it was from the National League. The Colorado Rockies, who averaged 3:09 per 9 innings was the biggest pace of play offender for 2015. They only had three NL teams that they played where games were under 3 hours: the Cardinals, Marlins (ea. at 2:51) and Brewers (2:57). They came in at 3:21 against the Pirates and 3:17 against the DBacks.

In terms of which match-up created the longest average length per 9 innings, the dubious distinction belongs to the games in which the Los Angeles Dodgers visited the Pittsburgh Pirates. The series of games between the two over the course of last season averaged 3:41 per 9 innings. The odd thing is, both teams fared well against other opponents. The Pirates averaged 2:55 for the season per 9 innings, with the Diamondbacks (3:09) running a distant second. For the Dodgers, they averaged 2:55 at home per 9, with the second-longest played games per 9 average being with the Marlins (3:10). So, it was something about these two teams that just seemed to stretch games out.

In the AL, the Tigers at Cleveland came in as the second-longest series of the season at an average of 3:30 per 9 innings.

To the Red Sox and Yankees… Boston averaged 3:06 per 9 at home, with the Orioles (2:59), A’s and Rangers (2:57 ea), plus Twins (2:35) as ones that were under the 3-hour mark. The Yankees saw six teams that they played with averages under 3 hours in the AL (Orioles, Royals, Angels, Twins, Mariners, and Rays).

The only reason Jays vs Orioles games were longer is because they averaged like 15 runs a game or something :lol

Everyone that was in Enron's mlbGAF Fantasy Rejects' fantasy league last season, rejoin. He sent out emails to everyone that was in the league. So far 8 people including myself have rejoined. If the remaining 4 do not rejoin, then those spots will be given out to others who to join.

Red Sox prospect Michael Kopech fractures his hand in a fight with a teammate.
http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/bo...actures-hand-after-altercation-with-teammate/

Kopech, one of the Red Sox’ top pitching prospects, fractured his right hand after engaging in an altercation with a teammate recently. The right-handed pitcher could be seen wearing a cast on his throwing hand at JetBlue Park Tuesday.

Red Sox general manager Mike Hazen wrote in a text that the organization is handling the situation internally while continuing to work through a medical plan.

Kopech, a first-round pick of the Red Sox in the 2014 draft, missed 50 games last season after being suspended for the use of Oxilofrine, a stimulant in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Without Buehrle the Jays will go up for pace of game this year.

yup, one of the reasons I loved him was his constant ability to keep the game just over 2 hours. Heck there was one time that he ended up facing someone who was quick like him and it was a sub 2 hour games.

Jon Heyman

braves willing to give up a home game and a july 3rd (saturday) game. wonder how mlb got them to agree to that.
In a unique event over Independence Day Weekend, the Braves and Marlins will pay tribute to the nation's military servicemen and servicewomen by playing a regular-season game at Fort Bragg, the North Carolina military base that is the most populated installation in the United States.

The first professional contest to be played on an active military base, the Fort Bragg Game is slated for 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 3, at a newly constructed 12,500-capacity ballpark, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association jointly announced Tuesday. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, ESPN Radio and MLB.TV.

The Braves will be the home team on the new ballfield, which will be converted to a permanent softball facility for those who serve at Fort Bragg as a gift from MLB and the MLBPA through the joint Industry Growth Fund.

"Major League Baseball's boundless gratitude to our military has led us to a unique event that will benefit the men and women of Fort Bragg and their families for many years," Commissioner Robert Manfred said in a release announcing the event. "I thank the Braves and the Marlins for their participation and all of our clubs and players for contributing to this gesture, which will stand as a fitting new chapter in the national pastime's proud and distinguished military history."

Said MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark: "As the son of a Navy officer, I am extremely proud to stand with all players and Major League Baseball as we honor our nation's military and our country, through the playing of a regular season game in historic Fort Bragg on Fourth of July Weekend. Many players are the grandsons, sons and brothers of men and women who have served or continue to serve our country. This one-of-a-kind ballpark construction project provides us with an opportunity to say 'thank you' to all who serve to protect our great nation."

Fort Bragg is home to 250,000 people over 500 square miles and is home to the U.S. Army's Global Response Force.

"We're extremely grateful to Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association for their support to our service members and families," Col. Brett Funck, Fort Bragg Garrison Commander, said. "This historic event and the converted multipurpose facility will have enduring benefits for our entire Fort Bragg community for years to come."

will gain confidence one day
Mallex Smith hit a leadoff double, Ozzie Albies moved him over to third, and Dansby Swanson scored him with a triple to tie the game.

Prospects are amazing.

salt and vinegar are as old as new england

one might say they describe new england
So every offseason you overspend on salt and vinegar from sources everyone knows is shit trying to recapture that taste you were lucky to have a few times?

It's definitely a local thing. Goes with fish and chips well enough.

I see it sometimes outside the area.

Yeah, can confirm that with fish and chips, vinegar on fries is awesome.

I, however, take it up a bit further, and when I get regular ripple chips, I put vinegar on them to make ghetto salt and vinegar chips
