MLB Off-season Thread 2015-2016 IOTI Back to the Future was a lie

My thinking is that the Mets will throw a big contract to Degrom that would have gone to Cespedes. Then lock up Thor and try to have money for Harvey in 2018.

Wow you think the mets are saving money to try and sign not one but THREE of the big pitchers. Someone's been hitting the egg nog hard over here.

I wish I could dream with you bud I really do.

Cuban phenom Lazaro Armenteros could be the next big thing, as Bob Nightengale of USA Today writes. In fact, the 16-year-old could be the best amateur player to sign in 2016.

Armenteros, who has been given the soccer-type one-name moniker of Lazarito, possesses “a rare combination of dazzling speed, raw power and outfield arm strength” and profiles as a very strong corner outfielder. One veteran international scout who marveled at his mix of speed and power even said that he has something that is reminiscent of Willie Mays and Bo Jackson. Two more scouting directors confirmed to Nightengale that Armenteros has superstar potential.

Especially signing Harvey. That is a pipe dream.

You don't plan around resigning pitchers, you spend now around them to take advantage of their cost controlled years. If that's really the Mets plan they are dumber than I thought.

Finally saw the episode where Anthony Bourdain goes to the Waffle House. In it, the person he's with slathers his pork chops in Heinz ketchup, to which Bourdain basically draws the line and goes "this is where we split ways."

Wise words indeed.

The 2016 draft order will be in a state of flux over the next few months. There are three ways the draft order can be altered:

1. A team fails to sign a player that it selected in the top three rounds of the previous draft. When this happens, the team is awarded a compensation pick immediately following the pick number of the unsigned player. For example, the Dodgers own the No. 36 pick in 2016 because they failed to sign Kyle Funkhouser, the 35th overall pick in the 2015 draft.

2. A team signs a player who has rejected a qualifying offer from his previous team. When this happens, the signing team forfeits its first unprotected non-compensatory pick, and the player’s previous team is awarded a pick after the first round. For example, the Diamondbacks forfeited the No. 13 pick in 2016 when they signed Zack Greinke, and Greinke’s previous club (the Dodgers) received a pick after the first round.

3. Competitive Balance picks can be traded. For example, the Braves acquired the Marlins’ Competitive Balance Round A pick in a 13-player deal in July.

Source: Yankees are on the verge of acquiring Aroldis Chapman from the Reds.

That payroll can be oh so much bigger, Rogers, if you cared for the Jays as much as you did the Leafs.

I don't even need a huge payroll as long as they made some of the moves they needed to make. Yanks seem to be getting bullpen help, something the Jays need.

The rest of our ball club looks so good but we're not going to take that extra step without a bullpen fix and maybe another starter.

They honestly don't need to spend that much at this point.

Yankees were very, very close to trading Andrew Miller to the Astros during the Winter Meetings. Would've been similar to Ken Giles deal.

Reds didn't get a lot for him.

Hearing Yankees will give up 4 minor league players for Chapman. But none from elite group of Sanchez, Judge, Mateo, Bird, etc.

Yankees have acquired Aroldis Chapman from the Reds for RHPs Caleb Cotham and Rookie Davis and INFs Eric Jagielo and Tony Renda.
