MINNEAPOLIS -- Left-hander John Danks will have exploratory surgery on his left shoulder on Monday morning, as announced by the White Sox prior to Tuesday's game with the Twins.

The 27-year-old starting pitcher will be shut down for the season, and Dr. Tony Romeo and Dr. Gregory Nicholson, considered the shoulder specialists, are set to lead the surgical team with assistance from Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph and Dr. Nick Verma. As White Sox head athletic trainer Herm Schneider explained Tuesday, doctors will explore to see what the problem is and then they will fix whatever problem is found.

Danks' injury, diagnosed as a left shoulder sprain, has kept him off the mound for the White Sox since beating the Cubs at Wrigley Field on May 19. Schneider said that the problem is still considered a strain, but there might be something else going on that they aren't seeing.

Bleh, I was hoping we would get Danks back as a bullpen arm in sept :/

New York Mets Lineup:
1) Jordany Valdespin CF
2) Ruben Tejada SS
3) Daniel Murphy 2B
4) Ike Davis 1B
5) Scott Hairston LF
6) Mike Baxter RF
7) Justin Turner 3B
8) Josh Thole C
9) Matt Harvey P

San Francisco Giants Lineup:
1) Gregor Blanco CF
2) Ryan Theriot 2B
3) Melky Cabrera LF
4) Buster Posey C
5) Marco Scutaro 3B
6) Brandon Belt 1B
7) Justin Christian RF
8) Brandon Crawford SS
9) Tim Lincecum P

Jason Bay (fouled a ball off of his shin) and Andres Torres (right hand injury, X-rays revealed no fracture but possible ligament damage) out of the lineup with injuries. Wright getting a day off. Nervous about Jordany in CF but nice to see Mike Baxter back. I am so ready to see Matt Harvey in outing number two.

I don't get why none of the talking heads are concerned about the Yankee's spiral. They have been losing every game in the same fashion as they were playing all season: all HR, no RISP. I don't see this team getting any better. How are they not going to blow their lead in the AL East? After tonight, they will be only 6.5 ahead, no?

5.5 ahead. well, the problem is not winning the close games and that's because of the bullpen. (or Retardi, or both)

This is all anyone is talking about...and it's generally been a problem every year except for 2009. :(

I wonder if this spiral is the beginning of the end for Girardi.

well let's let the season end and we'll see where he is. but his handling of in game strategy is severely lacking and he needs to demand more for the bullpen. can't keep throwing out Boone Logan just because, ask to have someone else brought in.

Verlander pitching poorly lately.

maybe he actually is human and not just a pitching robot.
doesn't make me sad to see him pitching poorly at all... makes it all the easier for my white sox to keep their 1st place lead. (that being said I don't want to see him hurt... he is usually a joy to watching pitching)

There may be something wrong with him though.... I watched the start of the game today... and I don't recall the last time I saw verlander throwing that hard in the first... usually that speed is saved for the 6-8th once he gets into a pinch. Maybe it was just an off day... I mean it's not like his last start was nearly as bad as it looks on paper... all but one of the runs he gave up were given up in the 7th (I think, they might have all been given up in the 7th)

Anyone else see the reports that kate upton and verlander are now a celebrity item? She apparently started showing up to detroit games in all her gear when he pitches or whatever. Since then ( like three starts ago ) he has been contributing to ugly ass games like tonight and cleveland last week.

Apparently they hooked up the day before the All-Star Game, and we know how that turned out.

blah.... what is wrong with my white sox lately... another error tonight... that is 7 across their last 4 games when they averaged .41 per game before that.
