The Diamondbacks have let other teams know that they are willing to trade Justin Upton, for the right package. This reminds some executives of the Rockies' marketing of Ubaldo Jimenez last summer. "They wouldn't be pushing it this hard in the middle of the year," said one official, "unless they really wanted him out of there."

Upton is owed about $45 million for the rest of his contract, which runs through the 2015 season.

Been catching up a bit and noticed some of the rumors involving the Braves:

To add to reports of ‪#Braves‬ scouting Greinke. They have definite interest. And as I reported Sat., they are willing to trade young arms.

As we saw last time he was about to leave a team, Zack Greinke has some very definite ideas about where he wants to play -- and where he doesn't want to play. And one former teammate said Greinke would like to be an Atlanta Brave, if given the chance.

According to Greinke's friend, he very much likes Atlanta, and its proximity to his Florida home would be another plus (Greinke hails from the Orlando area). Greinke, for his part, steadfastly has refused to comment on any teams beyond his current Brewers.

The Braves, meantime, are believed to like Greinke, as well, but haven't decided yet how hard to buy in the trade market after recent struggles.

The Baltimore Orioles will make a run at Brewers star Zack Greinke, sources say, and some now believe the Orioles and Atlanta Braves loom as the most likely to land Greinke in trade.

Of course, it's very early, so early Greinke isn't even known to be available yet. The Brewers are likely to wait to see how they fair against division competition in the games following the All-Star break before deciding whether to sell, a source said.

The Brewers are believed to have already received several calls on the free-agent-to-be Greinke, who is 9-2 with a 3.08 ERA, and it is believed that at least the Braves and Orioles will be major players.

The Braves have made sense since their rotation is now missing Brandon Beachy, Atlanta is known to like Greinke and the pitcher is believed to have an interest in them, as well, as was written here a few days ago. The Orioles also make sense, as unexpected contenders disappointed to have seen young starters Jake Arrieta, Tommy Hunter and Brian Matusz be demoted to Triple-A Norfolk in recent days. The Baltimore Sun also said the Orioles are expected to show interest in Greinke.

Greinke is one of the most talented pitchers in baseball, but it is believed that a couple of the biggest markets, such as the Yankees and Red Sox, will hesitate to trade for him because of his personal history.

Of course, a lot of this speculative stuff (especially before the All-Star break) may not mean much of anything ultimately since the Brewers are facing a key divisional stretch of games soon that'll determine where they'll stand in the trading market and when there's so many other teams that are probably interested, but man, it would be nice to have Greinke on this team (as long as we can sign him long-term).

I don't subscribe to ESPN so I'm not able to read the full article, but I take it that the Jays probably have one the hardest schedules RoS?

Majority of their games against the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays, along with their current rotation makes playoff hopes seem all but gone.

Do you guys think that they should sell high on Encarnacion and try to improve their pitching?
I think all but one of September's series are against ALE teams.

I'd rather spend the next 3 months trying to work out a deal with Eddie than see what the return is for a 3 month rental without a long history of offensive dominance is. It would be better to start selling high on some of the farm prospects (not even half of them will pan out), looking to improve the rotation long term. Then look to sign a starter in the off season.

I'm surprised the phillies have only scores 2 runs, way too many pitches in the middle of the plate by JJ.
