Wow Silva and co expected Papy Abedi to run through Alves, he loses, and now they match him with James Head - a guy that was demolished by Nick "Ohhhhh" Ring. They must really love this Abedi fella and wanna pad that record a bit.

I don't see what's wrong with adjusting expectations. Getting Alves as his first fight wasn't exactly a favor. I think they just expected it to be more competitive than it was.

Chael Sonnen -270
Mark Munoz +230

I like Chael and all, but this line is wrong.

Demian Maia +165
Michael Bisping -190

Really?

Chael Sonnen -270

I think both are pretty even fights. I'd probably put money on Munoz with that line, although will likely choose Sonnen on Sherdog (meaning I will choose Munoz on Sherdog).

Alves is a pretty damn tough matchup for a first UFC fight unless you're a great wrestler.

Anyone catch Caged? Absolutely terrible. If they just made it a real documentary about someone trying to be an amateur cage fighter without doctoring it, it would probably be interesting but it just comes across as scripted with D level actors whose only hope other than this show would've been some teen slasher movie / soft core porn. All the conversations are so stilted and unnatural (and boring).

That's what I'm saying - I think they wanted to build him up to be the next champ so they feed him to the wolves right away and beat a name like Alves and give him a title shot shortly after but then he loses so now they have to pad his record a bit with people like Head. Who knows, I'm just talking out my ass obviously.

I finished watching the last three fights on that Dream New Year's Eve card. Some of the most boring MMA I've ever viewed. Even Fedor's knockout was uneventful. They should give him another two or three cans, a final fight with Dan Henderson just to make things interesting, and call it a career. But he'll do whatever he wants to, so whatever.

As said, both fights could be seen as pretty even, Munoz is solid and won't be an easy lnp for Chael. Maia is the easiest top MW for Bisping in that he doesn't have the wrestling to get Mike down and submit him and his stand-up isn't top notch (although improved).

I would say both fights will end with close (maybe even split) decisions in favour of Sonnen and Bisping.

Sorry, I should say take down and throw pillow fists at them. I am a fan, it was just a catch all term as he isn't a finisher for the most part.

Chael has 1 finish in 9 WEC/UFC fights, that being his last.

I haven't seen his older fights but I still want to know when he has LNPed somebody with his wrestling. He's been very active on the ground in the fights I've seen.

Tyron Woodley is a good example of LNP in his last few fights.

Yeah. Chael isn't a LnP'er, but he hardly ever finishes fights. He's very active on the ground, but his style typically doesn't allow him to finish an opponent. His relentless pillow-fisted ground and pound wears on his opponents, but it'll never finish them.

Now that he's worked some jitz into his arsenal, we might see a more dominant Sonnen looking forward. He definitely looked very impressive in his fight against Stann.

Can anyone recommend me some fights where a fighter dominates from the bottom? Ben Saunder's fight comes to mind against Santos. He dominated with his rubber guard variation and it was fascinating watching the fight. Team Nogueira should not be allowed to hand out black belts after that fight.

I wouldn't say dominating but Miguel Torres/Demetrius Johnson. Torres lost, but was throwing up tons of sub attempts, while Johnson pitterpatted him and got the decision.

Bas Rutten vs Kevin Handleman.

Florian vs Lauzon is a good one.

Nate Diaz vs Pellegrino is good too (I think thats the one where he does the double finger salute when he locks up the triangle)

What about when a fighter beats a guy so bad he tells his brother to throw in the towel and doesn't realize what happened until he get into the ambulance?

To all the Chael haters, go watch the fight with Nate, very good show of his ability to stay busy on top. I don't like the guy but hes fot good wrestling, and i'm not a fan of the silva fight he was so lame.

Last 4 rounds of the Silva fight. Lightly touching a dude with your hands for 19 minutes doesn't count as being active.

Then why did Silva kept getting dazed by those pillow hands? I can't remember the whole fight but I thought he rocked him once or twice after the first round.

Edit: I'm right. That left hook in the 5th round. Can probably find more if people are trying to discredit knocking down Anderson Silva.

every time the UFC announces something like this it turns out to be something really underwhelming. it's going to be something lame like Jim Miller vs Gray Maynard added to UFC on FX or something non-essential.

Well they did say Fedor was looking for a rematch against Werdum on Inside MMA last night, so who knows.

Probably some shit like a FuelTV stream, though.
