I think this all goes back to the "UFC is a system to churn out contenders" debate. If you let all these guys beat each other waiting for GSP to heal, no one will be left when he comes back.

They want to have GSP fight Condit then Ellenberger, not have Condit fight Ellenberger and have a PPV disappear.

Frustrating yet necessary evil on the UFC's part.

They probably learned a lesson from watching all the would be contenders at 155 wipe each out within a 6 month span.

It's never really worked out like that though. Hell every time I've seen someone try to really game the system and trick someone (like Buentello in the Kongo fight), they themselves get warned.

Unless this is just another stupid OMG WHY DOES JON JONES COME OUT LIKE THAT IT'S SO CHEAP issues, in which case meh....

No I'm talking about people who are in a head lock and they just reach down and touch the ground with a finger. There's been a blatant case of it recently .. I think it was Nik Lentz that did it in his fight against Dunham. I don't mind the Jones thing because that's clearly not a tactic to trick the other person. I've just assumed its some kind of weird ritual to kick off the fight .. kinda like how Wandy does that dumb thing with his hands.

It should be four points of contact not three. That way if some tries that bullshit with both hands down they leave themselves open for a takedown.

What's their justification for not allowing soccer kicks to the body? Also, fuck the "no upkicking a grounded opponent" rule. If the guy is on top of you, he still has an advantage over you. You should be able to upkick whenever.

It isn't. Just like knees to the body of a ground opponent. People just don't do it.
