great job!

how long have you been training?
write some stuff! I`m just a striped white belt, so anything is welcome!
i started training bjj in oct 2006. did two tournaments at that level with moderate success, then moved up to blue belt after about 9 months. competed at that a lot (every 2-3 months i did a tournament) until i reached about 3 years, then moved to purple, and competed 2-3 times a year at that until i just got this belt. im doing this all to stay in shape and because i think it is a fun sport and hobby. a lot of the people ill be facing now are guys who are trying to run a gym as a career and take this a whole lot more seriously than myself. who knows if i'll wind up having any success whatsoever.

the only thing that i did that allowed me to move forward while others did not was staying active. i have not taken weeks or months off from training as long as ive been doing this (at $80 a month you can bet im not going to pay and not show up any) and i always make sure to show up for open mat sessions. open mat, actively rolling with others rather than just going through classes, that has made the most improvements for me. also competing at tournaments is the other big difference with me- most people train, wear the gear and talk a big game, but dont ever put themselves out there and compete against others. ive won and lost my fair share of matches, but i learned more about the gaps in my game in competitions than i gained rolling against the same people at my home gym every week.

there are a lot of people that started the same time as me at my gym, but most of them got bored, decided they wanted to 'work on their stand up game', got beat at a tournament and decided that something was inherently unfair that kept them from winning (that guy just laid on me, these guys are to big, i went out the night before and got tired to fast), those sorts of things are what makes people quit.

as far as the importance of the belt, id say the only thing that matters with this is it will affect the level i will compete at from now on. it doesnt make me better, its not gonna impress most people in the 'real world' (i got my black belt in karate after two years, etc) so i try not to think about it all that much. im proud that ive made it this far and will still remain active as a grappler. ill probably be teaching more and trying to encourage others to appreciate the art of 'gi' jiu jitsu and not get to caught up in the bad-assery that is in this sport that so many get sucked in to.

Rewatched that Jones/Shogun fight, and man, I just can't see Rampage even giving Jones a fight. He's going to get murdered, and I dislike Jones' "personality" if you can call it that. I hope Evans brings an end to this era if I'm right about Rampage.

Ariel Helwani ringing in the Sports Entertainment era with his 100th episode of The MMA Hour next week.

Mitrione/McCorkle minute, Bas Rutten, and CM Punk's first ever MMA-related interview. More guests TBA.

Glad Cung Le is getting his shot in the UFC, thought he would have had a good shot at beating Anderson two years ago before the filming of Pandorum.

Cung Le's biggest wins have been over an aged Frank and Scott Smith, who he's 1-1 with. I want to see him try to make it in the UFC but in no way does he deserve Vitor's Back or a main event.

I dunno, looked like those punches connected to me.
He looks like he's still in it after the first one, then seems to suddenly decide he's been KO'd right before the follow-up punch hits him on the arm. I thought it looked more conclusive on the replay but whatever. I didn't think the last punch that dropped Okami actually connected either, so maybe I'm just crazy.

On the newest Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer was saying Nick Diaz still hasn't signed the contract to fight BJ.

They are really pulling out all the stops to sell this storyline.

Storyline shmoryline. If Diaz pulls out and is cut or some shit, I'll be pissed.

Lesnar/Reem main event means they're free to fill the rest of the card with whatever they can throw together with no fear of it not selling.

Don't worry you're not the only one to see it.

Now I have Cormier way up there. Still shocked. I used to think he'd be better at LHW but now I'm not sure it even matters. On the other hand the whole fight was decided by that one overhand right, which isn't exactly the most significant indicator of a fighter's overall ability. Same as Jones-Shogun which all came down to that soccer kick a fraction of a second after shogun took his hand off the mat.

Here's an interview with Bigfoot: http://www.tatame.com/2011/09/12/Bi...-Cormier-says-Barnett-will-win-Strikeforce-GP
Why did you post this?

Yeah...why not? Keeps the discussion going.

I'd be surprised if the UFC let him fight that close to their event and risk injury. I'm guessing Shark Fights is looking for a new "main event".

What the fuck happened to Shark Fights by the way? They must've taken a bath on their first PPV. Look at the card they put together for Shark Fights 13. Nothing close to that since.

We'll always have Don Frye talking about how his fight record doesn't include the times he "knocked the old lady around."

Whoa.....I just found out the Nick Diaz stuff

Amazing how being in the Caribbean for a week puts you so far behind MMA news lol

All I read down there was the Reem fight

Big Foot's chin has taken another victim I see. Who pictured a Griggs/Barnett final when this was announced?
Griggs being in the final has been (jokingly) talked about since Fedor went out. The only real question was who his opponent would be.

I joked about it before Fedor was out saying he would break his hand and Griggs would step in.

Cormier will likely have enough time to rehab and train without the need to delay the tournament final since his fight against Josh Barnett is being targeted for early 2012.

With that said, Coker said on Saturday he would consider a replacement if Cormier was out for an extended amount of time past first quarter of 2012.

Damn, this is shaping up to be one of those early UFC Tourneys at this pace. Replacement fighters possibly in the finals.

bish gets all the credit :)
Well they said he'd be out up to 8 weeks, so that's mid-November. Then he could start training again for a fight in early 2012.

Cormier will be cut over a supposed contract dispute and employed by the UFC two months later.

Book it.

Slow your roll Chamber. People have to question his injury and say he's ducking Barnett first.

The show was a bomba as expected:
Despite two intriguing world-grand-prix semifinal fights and a middleweight championship bout, this past weekend's "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" event averaged just 274,000 Showtime viewers.

Of the 18 Strikeforce "Arena Series" events that have aired on Showtime, "Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Kharitonov" ranks 17th in ratings history.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the figures with an industry source.

ouch. Zuffa's trying to kill it confirmed.

Strikeforce was pretty much doing that on it's own before Zuffa bought it. The way this tourney was set up was weird and had the bottom bracket stacked and the top basically empty.

Nice headbutt to set up the KO punch.

And those ratings....yeah. Everyone can sense the impending doom so it's hard to keep them interested. Those numbers aren't a shock at all.

So, with the precedent set by the overturning of Charles Oliveira's victory over Nik Lentz in which Oliveira threw an illegal strike that the referee didn't properly stop the action penalize him for, this should be retroactively ruled a No Contest.

Look at the Strikeforce payroll compared to the event attendance too. What a mess. The death date is set for the end of February right? Hopefully they get the final in before then.

Let's say Barnett wins the HWGP. Does he get invited to the UFC? On one hand he's been caught with steroids 3 times. That would put the UFC on shaky ground and flies in the face of the precedent they've set with Marquardt. On the other hand, if he's not in the UFC they've just legitimized their own competition by building up a ranked heavyweight.

I have a feeling they'll put business before principles and let him back in if he wins. If he loses to Cormier there's no chance in hell though.

There is no competition and nobody will give a shit about Barnett whether he wins or not. He has about as much drawing power as Travis Lutter or Jonathan Goulet.

Bellator almost caught Strikeforce in total viewers:

Bellator Fighting Championships’ fifth-season debut reached an average of 235,000 viewers during its Saturday broadcast on MTV2, promotion officials announced on Tuesday.

Featuring the opening round of the company’s fourth welterweight tournament, Bellator 49 aired live at 9 p.m. ET from Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. The show’s immediate rebroadcast at 11 p.m. ET netted an additional 153,000 viewers, making a total of 386,000 for the four-hour block.

Bellator 49 marked the first time the Chicago-based promotion was simultaneously broadcast in high definition on premium cable network Epix, a channel not currently rated by Nielsen Media Research. Additionally, the event served as guinea pig for the promotion’s inaugural preliminary card broadcast, which streamed live on Spike.com and Bellator.com immediately prior to the MTV2 broadcast.

Featuring victories from Chris Lozano (Pictured), Ben Saunders, Luis Santos and Douglas Lima, Bellator 49 posted the fourth-greatest viewership rating out of 15 total MTV2-broadcast Bellator events in 2011. Leading the pack by a wide margin, May’s Bellator 44 sits atop that list with 325,000 viewers.
